This is the way it works.

Mobile LiDAR technology uses  the following pieces of 
equipment 
1.  Laser emitter‐receiver scanning unit(s)

2.  GPS (global positioning system) unit which works with 
a very high precision clock; 

3.  IMU  (inertial measurement unit) attached to the 

scanner, which uses another very high precision 
clock 
4.  Digital cameras

5. External Wheel Encoder attached to wheel hub of 
vehicle
