TECHNICAL TALK

THE BOTTOM FALLS OUT

It was another nightmarish week for the market, as benchmark indices plunged more than 4% this
week, registering their worst weekly fall in more than 8 months. Considering last week's 3.8% cut,
Nifty has slumped nearly 8% in just two weeks. In last week's report, we had clearly mentioned that
the view on Nifty had turned negative as the benchmark had decisively broken the immediate previous
bottom of 5982, negating the bullish higher-top higher-bottom formation. We also said that if 5800
does not hold, there are chances of benchmark plunging all the way to 5690, the bottom made in
November 2010. Our view has been clearly vindicated by the movement of Nifty during the week.

The view on Nifty continues to be bearish as the negative lower-top lower-bottom formation is well
intact on the daily chart. Daily RSI too continues to make lower-top lower-bottom formation,
supporting the down trend. MACD too is portraying a negative picture by slipping into the negative
territory. On the downside, the nearest support one can see is 5605, which happens to be the 200 day
moving average of Nifty. Below 5605, the support levels to watch out for would be 5562 followed by
5379, which are 50% and 61.8% retracement levels of the up move from the bottom of 4786 made in
May 2010 to the top of 6338 made in November 2010 as shown in the weekly chart below.
