February 6, 2011

This week’s chapter is a paper chapter. The following reports are what were sent to
Joscelyn in time to be included in the minutes. Please read this so as to be aware of what
the chapter has going on this week. Once you have read it please sign it so as to be
marked as attending.

Secretary’s Report:

Please read last week’ minutes and look to see if there is anything that needs to be
changed. Please mark any changes you may find.

Treasurer’s Report:

 The treasury report was read and showed we have a balance of $5,943.92 in
checking and $2,590.22 in savings.
 Bills went out today. Dues are due the 25th.

Recruitment Director’s Report:

 Recruitment workshop this Thursday at 7:30 pm.

 Only one person has told me they would like to apply to be a pi chi. According to
Panhellenic by-laws we have to have 3 girls apply. You must be in good standing
with the chapter in order to be a pi chi, and you must have gone through
recruitment on our side. See me if you're considering applying.

Education Director’s Report:

 Remember to do study hours. You can turn in this week’s and next week’s study
hours at the next chapter.
 We will be starting our Sigma trivia program at the next chapter.

Vice-President’s Report:

 No Report

President’s Report:

 We are still working on the T-shirt chair stuff, but the chairs are Brandy, Tara,
and Natalia. They will work on helping get orders together, getting us the best
prices, and helping with design ideas before events we have. There will be rules
about shirts, like being paid up on dues before you can buy them but hopefully of
this will be ironed out in the next few weeks.
 IF YOU ARE A CHAIR AND YOU HAD ONLINE TRAINING PLEASE
DO YOUR CHIARMAN RETREAT EVALUATION. THIS IS A BIG PART
OF ACCREDIATION. If you don’t do this you will be submitted to Honor
Council so please make sure it is done by next Sunday.
 If you are a freshman or sophomore interested in the Dunham Women’s Institute
here is all of the information. If you are interested please put your name here with
the report so that Sarah can get you more details.
o Dunham Women of Character Institute
 Takes place May 21, 2011 at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare.
 It is a one day Tri Sigma National leadership program focusing on
the training and empowerment of our newer members.  This
Institute is designed to prepare women to take on leadership roles
in their chapter and on their campus.  Each collegiate chapter may
send one member to the Institute.
 Dr. Mari Ann Callais will be our keynote speaker.  Dr. Mari Ann
Callais approaches fraternity and sorority education in a
completely heartfelt way. For more than a decade, she has offered
fun, upbeat keynotes that help us explore the roles of values in our
daily choices. Using music and storytelling, Mari Ann offers a
truly unique keynote about values, ritual and the responsibilities of
being a lifetime sorority member.
 Also, we have a visitor from Foundation coming for dinner tomorrow,
Monday, night. We will be having dinner with her at 7:30pm. Please be at the
house.

The President then called for the reports of the standing committees.

Standing Committees:

 Panhellenic Delegate
o We were unable to raffle off the basketball due to our lack of a raffle
license. We are still trying to figure out what to do with the ball and the
tickets.
o We will be voting on the new Panhellenic budget at the next meeting.
o Letters in the Library: February 10, March 2, and April 27. Wear your
letters in the library from 2-5pm on those dates to show how wonderful
and smart we all are.
o Greek Week is going to be April 10-16. Events start Sunday night. There
will be no events on Friday and the closing ceremony will be on Saturday.
o We are in the works of planning a school supplies drive.
o Planning is in the works for a “Girls’ Night In” movie and popcorn. We
may have massage, nail and tan people coming in.
o There will be no Block Party during Alumni Weekend.
o February 8th is Chi Omega’s birthday.
o February 9th is OU day. A former Chi Omega, CNN speaker is coming to
campus. She wants to speak to Greek Life.
o We need 3 sisters who have been through recruitment on both sides to
apply to be Pi Chis. We have not had anyone apply yet. Without three
applicants we will have an infraction. Please talk to Krista and Chelsea if
you are interested.
 Efficiency
o Thank you all for being so good about doing your reports on time. We
wouldn’t be able to function without all of your hard work.
 Risk Management
o The following are the Zero Tolerance Hazing Policies of Sigma Sigma
Sigma.
 Hazing is ANY action taken or situation created knowingly,
whether on or off Sorority premises, to produce mental or physical
discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule.
 This includes, but is not limited to:

 Creation of excessive fatigue
 Physical or Psychological shocks
 Quests of any type
 The wearing of public apparel, which is conspicuous, and
not normally in good taste.
 Engaging in public stunts and jokes.
 Morally degrading or humiliating games or activities
 Late work sessions which interfere with scholastic
activities

 Any activities which are not consistent with the rules,
policies and regulations of the educational institution or the

ANY KIND OF REASON THAT COULD BE APPLIED
 Tri-Sigma’s policy is that the sisters shall exemplify love and
respect to all of the sisters and therefore hazing is not permitted.
 Any member participation in any hazing practices will be subject
to disciplinary action.
 There are legal repercussions to hazing. Not only is someone who
is participation in hazing be held liable, but also anyone who has
knowledge of or acquiesced in the behavior may be subject to
criminal or civil liability.
 HAZING IS WRONG. DON’T DO IT.

The President then called for the reports of the special committees.

Special Committees:

 Sisterhood
o We are suspending the Sisterhood in the park that had been planned for
February 19th until the fall so that we can have warmer weather.
o This Friday, the 11th, we are having a Valentine’s Day sisterhood. We will
be watching Valentine’s Day and will have goodies to munch on. We
have made all of the sisters little bags to collect valentines in so it would
be great if we all made valentines for each other. It will be a great way to
show your sisters how much we all love each other.
 Public Relations
o Tip of the Week: If you find wearing dresses a bit daunting, try jersey
(without the shore and the orange tans)! Jersey is a knit fabric that was
originally made of wool, but is now made of wool, cotton, and some
synthetic fibers. It's extremely versatile and comfy because of its stretchy,
light structure. Grace always packs at least one jersey dress when she
travels because she can roll it up, throw it in her luggage, and have
something somewhat decent to wear for nice nights out.

Old Business:

There is no old business.

New Business:

Given that this is a paper chapter there can be no new business. If you have any new
business please bring it to chapter next week.

Announcements:

All announcements and things passed are being held until the next actual chapter.
