Population Data Summary

According to the world’s population clock, there are approximately 69 billion people in the

world and 20% of the population belongs to China. That means one in five people on earth lives

in some part of China, making it the nation with the world’s highest population. According to the

Population Reference Bureau of 2010, 5% of the world’s population resides in the United States.

That means 1 in 20 people in the world lives somewhere in the United States. There are 37

million people in California which makes up about 12 % of the US population.

The two counties chosen to report data on are Alameda and Santa Clara Counties in California.

According to 2009 US Census Bureau Estimates Data Sets, Alameda County has about 15

million people or 4% of California’s population and Santa Clara, about 18 million people which

approximates to about 5 % of the population. It is interesting to find out that 10 % of California’s

population are 65 years or older. (US Census Bureau Population Estimates Program, 2009).

Asians make up about 12 % of California’s population. (American Community Survey, 2005-

2009). Unemployment rate is about 6.5% in this population in California State (American

Community Survey, 2005-2009). According to Fact sheet for Demographic 2000 data, 27% of

Asians attained Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in Education. For Health issue for Asian race,

Hepatitis B is more prevalence in this particular population. In the United States, approximately

half of the 1 million persons with chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection are Asian/Pacific

Islanders, most of whom became infected with HBV before arriving in the United States . (CDC,

unpublished data, 2007)
