PROJECT REGISTRATION FORM

The purpose of this form is to allow final year students of the B.Sc (Hon) degree program to enlist the final
year project group. Enlisting a project entails specifying the project name and four members of the group,
the internal supervisor (compulsory), external supervisor (may be from the industry) and indicating a brief
description of the project. The description of the project entered on this form is not formal project
proposal, but should indicate the scope of the project and give the main potential outcome.

Brief Description of proposed project:

CeylonEye is a customize solution which can be applicable with in vast range of fields. When
considering about real world, there are so many Geographical Information Systems/Services and
also separately Social Networks. Most of the Geographical Information Systems/Services are
developed by European countries. So when using those within country like Sri Lanka it may be
not very useful because they trace only less numbers of locations due to many issues. So we are
going to localize a Geographical Information system by tracing maximum number of places
which is very useful for Sri Lankans. In CeylonEye here we are bring together those Geographical
Information System and Social Networking for validate and ranking data, useful information
related to the geographical location.

CeylonEye includes four main layers. A database layer for store the geographical information,
Database wrapper, API and Application layer. The API divided in to two parts as Geo API and
Social API.
By using our API variety of new innovative software can be developed by several personals.
For an examples mobile applications, applications for use while travelling within vehicles. They
can retrieve data through the API from the data base by using there own applications.
Another important factor about the CeylonEye is it can be categorized as a community growth
application. Through our API’s any one can add new information and the details. And also the
data which currently available are editable. Can modify and also can be validate and make ranks.
All the cities and locations presented within the geo API.And also number of valuable and useful
places related to one specific geographical location will be included. The personals could be able
to validate the locations and make ranking.
As an example consider you need to reach Kandy and buy a book. You can check the location
and the shortest path by use of geo API. The Geo API will represent you the no of places where
you can buy a book from Kandy. From the Social API your friends may already rank some specific
place from Kandy to buy a book. For an ex: The Geo API will gives you that the available
bookshops in Kandy are MD Gunasena, Srasavi,Wijithayapa and so on. Then via Social API it may
displays you that some of your friends are already had visit a bookshop in Kandy and they said
that Gunasena is the best. So you can select that straightly and get the location and fulfill your
task.
We do our research on how to handle those two main Social and Geo part with maximum
efficiency, availability and retrieve and store data in useful manner.
The CeylonEye System developed by development team, hope satisfactorily reach the
expectations. With proper applications of the most appropriate software engineering
methodologies, and the emerging modern technologies. The project will complete according to
the scheduled time frame.

Main expected outcomes of the project:

 Creating a bridge in-between Geographical Information system and Social networks.

 Develop API with maximum efficiency, availability and retrieve and store data in useful
manner.

 Let the community to grow up the new locations, rank the places and validating.

 Let other application developers to use provided common API and retrieve data in
friendly manner.

 Store the data by using new techniques to make easier to store and retrieve data,
efficiency and more usefully.

 Make more localized geographical information system for Sri Lankans.
