B. Rationale
What will your students be able to do as a result of your professional growth that they are not now able to do?
MY PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS WILL ANSWER AND POSE MORE QUESTIONS IN CLASS WITHOUT
HESITATION AND THEREFORE PROMOTE MORE MATH-RELATED DISCUSSION. PARTICIPATION BY
STUDENTS WILL ENCOURAGE MORE STUDENT-BASED LEARNING RATHER THAN INTRUCTOR-
BASED LEARNING AND IN EFFECT ASSIST IN PACING THE LESSONS ACCORDING TO CLASS-WIDE
ABILITIES.

Based on your rationale, what new skills and knowledge (grounded in research) will you need to build your
capacity in this area? Be Specific.
I FEEL THAT INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY INTO MY LESSON PLANS WILL BE ESSENTIAL IN
SUPPORTING A STUDENT-BASED LEARNING AND THIS CAN BE AIDED BY WORKSHOPS THAT TEACH
NEW PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE USED TO CREATE/SUPPORT LESSON PLANS. ALSO I FEEL THAT
SOME EXPERIMENTING WITH CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION WILL ENCOURAGE OPEN DIALOG
BETWEEN TEACHER AND STUDENTS AND AMONG STUDENTS. I WILL HAVE TO FIND WAYS TO
IMPROVE LESSON PLANS SO THAT I BECOME MORE OF A FACILITATOR OF KNOWLEDGE RATHER
THAN THE DISPENSER OF KNOWLEDGE.

What evidence might you gather to demonstrate the impact of your professional growth on student
learning as stated in Step 1?
I COULD TAKE A SERIES OF SURVEYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR THAT ASKS THE STUDENT
TO RATE THEIR OWN PARTICIPATION AND OTHER STUDENTS, AS WELL AS HOW WELL
THEY GRASP THE MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS. I COULD ALSO USE THIS INFORMATION TO
IMPROVE MY LESSON PLANS AS THE SCHOOL YEAR PROGRESSES.
I COULD ALSO TRACK STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN A NOTEBOOK. I WOULD TRACK
STUDENTS WHO VOLUNTEER ANSWERS AND THOSE THAT I MUST CALL ON. BUT IN ORDER
DETERMINE THAT THERE WAS AN IMPACT I WOULD HAVE TO DEFINE A CORRELATION
BETWEEN CLASS PARTICIPATION AND GRADES EARNED.
