ANSWERS

1. You say that the carrier to interference value in TEMS Investigation actually reflects carrier to noise. Can you specify how much
of the Signal to noise ratio is attributable to the Interference in the air?
No, we can't. In case of very low signal strength, C/I rather reflects the signal to noice ratio (C/N) but we have no method for differ
C/I from C/N. In fact, you could see the C/I as a measure of C/(I+N+R+A...). I.e. the relationship between the carrier and the sum of
all interfering signals. Of course, in most GSM networks, the main part of the interference comes from other basestations (and in the
coverage limited case when the signal strength is low, noise).

2. Is there a definite link between C/I and S/N, or do we just have to presume that most of the S/N is caused by C/I?
See answer on question 1.

3. Can you scan (only) the BCCH frequencies, as in, can you get the screen to display the C/I or C/N value for a predefined number
of frequencies (1...n).
It is possible to measure C/I in both idle and dedicated mode. In idle mode, you will get a C/I value on the BCCH carrier in the
serving cell. You will not get a value on the neighbours but you can of couse simply use the lock on channel function and switch
serving cell.In dedicated mode, you will get a C/I value for each frequency in the hopping list (even on the BCCH carrier (if
included). If you have a non frequency hopping cell, you will get a C/I value on the used frequency. It is possible to present the C/I
values in four different ways. The methods works even in a non frequency hopping cell (but of course, they will all be very similar).

Method 1. C/I Worst, presents the lowest C/I value (and the corresponing ARFCN value) of the frequencies in the hopping list. It is
possible to choose index, i.e the worst, the second worst, the third worst etc. It is possible to specify several indexes and monitor
them simultaneously.

Method 2. C/I Best, presents the highest C/I value (and the corresponing ARFCN value) of the frequencies in the hopping list. It is
possible to choose index, i.e the highest, the second highest, the third highest etc. It is possible to specify several indexes and
monitor them simultaneously.

Method 3. C/I Absolute, presents the C/I value on a specifed ARFCN. If the ARFCN is included in the hopping list the value is
presented. If the ARFCN is not included in the hopping list, nothing is displayed. When the frequency appears in the hopping list
(e.g. after an handover to another cell) the C/I value is presented. It is possible to specify several ARFCNs and monitor them
simultaneously.

Method 4. C/I Hopping list, presents the C/I value on a chosen index in the hopping list. I.e it is possible to monitor the C/I (and the
corresponding ARFCN) on e.g. position 1 in the hopping list. It is possible to specify several indexes and monitor them
simultaneously

4. I'm using a SlimCase/DriveTest case or a standalone NMEA GPS and the mouse pointer is moving all over the place when I'm
drive testing. How can I fix this?
This is a known Microsoft problem. Just open up the Device Manager in windows and disable (not uninstall) the Microsoft ball
pointing device.

5. I have a piece of TEMS Investigation equipment which seems to be broken. How do I get it repaired?
Please contact our First Line Support staff in your region with as much information as possible: model, serial number/IMEI, type of
problem, date of purchase, PO number etc. The contact information can be found here.

They will reply to you and assign an RMA number for you to use when returning the equipment. Also, they will check if the
equipment is covered by warranty or not. Do NOT send equipment to us without an RMA number, as this will only slow down the
process.

6. What parameters of the radiolink will have impact on SQI?

The SQI algorithm is based on the bit error rate (BER), the frame erasure rate (FER), the distribution of the FER and BER (e.g. the
number of consecutive erased frames), handover events and so called stolen frames (i.e. speech frames that have been replaced
by signalling). Also the currently used speech coder effects the SQI.

The SQI algorithm takes into account all of those parameters and use the built in training to transform this into a speech quality

degradation.

7. What speech coder versions do the SQI supports?

SQI is available for GSM FR (full rate), GSM EFR (enhanced full rate), GSM HR (half rate), AMR (adaptive multi rate), AMR, FR,
AMR HR.

8. Does the SQI show the quality on the uplink channel?

In the TEMS Investigation products, the SQI shows the quality on the downlink channel. However, in the Ericsson BSS R8 release
or later , SQI on the uplink channel is available as an option.

9. If I send speech to the TEMS Investigation mobile, how will this influence the SQI? Will the language, loudness or
speaker(male/female) have impact on the SQI?
The SQI is calculated from the radiolink parameters. The impact of these parameters on the perceived speech quality has been built
in to the SQI algorithm using a large training material with different speakers and sentences. Therefore, the SQI is not dependent on
rating a single sentence that is sent on the traffic channel, but will always produce a reliable quality value.

10. How often is the SQI updated in TEMS Investigation?

TEMS Investigation is updating the SQI every 480 millisecond (i.e once every SACCH multiframe).

11. How is the SQI related to a typical sentence of a few seconds?

Every SQI value is a rolling average, giving an indication of the speech quality for a sentence during the past 2.4 seconds. Being
updated every 480 millisecond the SQI gives an instant quality value. If the user wants only one value for a longer time interval, a
number of SQI values can be averaged for a time period up to about 20 seconds.

12. We use Frequency Hopping, how will this affect the SQI?
Frequency hopping will improve the radio conditions, thus decreasing the bit error rate and the frame erasure rate. This is built into
the SQI algorithm.

13. We use DTX Discontinuous Transmission), how will this affect the SQI?
SQI is calculated on all blocks actually transmitted on the downlink. If DTX downlink is used, only the valid blocks are taken into
account. Note that not only the mandatory SID block and the SACCH block are used, instead an algorithm similar to the one used in
the speech decoder are user which calculated which blocks that are transmitted to the mobile. However, in order to get a SQI with
as high accuracy as possible, we recommend you to make sure that as many blocks as possible are transmitted.

14. How is the SQI scale constructed and what are the possible values for SQI?
A reference scale (dBQ) is constructed by combining simulated references (sentences with distortion typical for a mobile system)
and MNRU (Modulated Noise Reference Unit, ITU-standard P.810). Both male and female speakers are used. When the SQI
algorithm is updated, we can make comparative listening tests towards the absolute reference scale. The test will have a small
variance. The SQI range comes from using this method.

15. Why are you not using MOS (Mean Opinion Score) when presenting the SQI?
The result from a MOS listening test is heavily influenced by the source material; e.g. the language, sentence contents, range of
disturbance levels, listener preferences etc. Even if MOS tests are well suited to compare the speech samples used within each
test, the results cannot generally be compared to results derived from another MOS test.

The MNRU scale, which uses a mathematically defined disturbance, is more stable and absolute, and produces listening results
which are more comparable between tests. This characteristic of the MNRU scale is also exploited in most MOS tests, where
MNRU samples are used as a "scaling factor".

By using the MNRU scale directly, the result from the SQI algorithm is relatively stable to the effects of e.g. listener preference and
range of disturbance levels and, to some extent, also to the sentence and language used.

16. What is the range of SQI?

17. I'm trying to copy my export setup (i.e. *.mex, *.aex, *.pex) files to another computer, but my Name and No Data columns are
blank
Copy also the Columns.dbf and Columns4all.dbf files from the Application directory onto the destination computer.

18. In VSQI, how is the MOS value estimated?

VSQI estimates how test persons would rate a video in a subjective test, and the rating scale is a five grade scale ranging from
"Bad" to "Excellent".

Excellent corresponds to MOS 5 and Bad to MOS 1. We have tested the clean clips and they have got a MOS score, which is less
than 5. You never get MOS 5 in a test (and in VSQI) because there is always some of the test persons rating the video with a lower
score than Excellent, and MOS is the average score of all test persons.

This is how a video clip (for example a clean clip) is scored depends on the subjective test. Two subjective tests can give the same
clip a different score. However, this is a property of the MOS scoring with the type of test we have done and the same situation
goes for speech testing with a MOS score.
It is recommended to read the technical papers called 'Video Streaming Quality Measurement with VSQI.pdf' document provided in
the TEMS Investigation CD package.

19. Whenever a USB GPS is connected to my laptop, the mouse pointer is moving all over the place. How can I fix this?
This is a known Microsoft problem There are 2 methods to solve this problem.

Method 1: Just open up the Device Manager in windows and disable (not uninstall) the Microsoft ball pointing device.

Method 2: Here is another workaround for those who just can't disable it quite quickly enough from device manager and you need
to have Admin rights to the PC. If you don't have the rights you would need to consult your Administrator.

1 - Start Run,
2 - Regedit
3 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sermouse
4 - Change the "Start" value to 4 (Value is previously set as "3")

This disables the "sermouse" service from Windows.

Windows will still identify the GPS as a Mouse, but this mouse shows up with the yellow "!" in Windows device manager. The cursor
will now behave and the PC as well as Investigation seems to work Ok in this condition.

You can then optionally go to device manager right-click on it and disable as done before, then go back and revert the registry key
back to 3. This will get you the customary red X in device manager.

Remember if you connect the GPS on another USB port, the problem comes right back (leaving it as 4 works for all ports). However
this may disable finding another real mouse device later on.

20. Does TEMS Investigation support dual core processors?

Dual core is officially supported in Tems Investigation ver 8.0.2
You may experience performances issues when using a dual core processor when running a version older than TEMS Investigation
8.0.2.

21. How to distinguish between the normal speech call and video telephony call in TEMS Investigation Event Message?
To distinguish between a normal speech call and a video telephony call is to identify the different Spreading Factor (SF) used.
Normal Speech Calls use SF = 128 and Video Calls use SF = 32 or SF = 64. This information can be observed from Call Setup
message in the Event window and WCDMA/GSM Data Line Chart.

22. What are the HSDPA recommendations for the following parameters:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize"
"TcpWindowSize"
"SackOpts"
"Tcp1323Opts"
"TcpMaxDupAcks"

4 of 6 3/2/2011 6:18 AM
TEMS Investigation FAQS http://www.ascom.com/en/index/support/support-tems/technical-support...

These are the general settings:

XP

tcpwindowsize 65535

GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize 0

sackopts 1

tcpmaxdupacks 2

tcp1323opts 3

tcpmaxconnnectretransmissions 5

WIN2K

tcpwindowsize 62040

GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize 0

sackopts 1

tcpmaxdupacks 2

tcp1323opts 3

tcpmaxconnnectretransmissions 5

However as for the tcpwindowsize, it is controlled by some other parameters as such the following below:

RTT Time
Is a re-transmission needed?
maximum possible throughput
network feature like Active Queue Management (AQM)

In regards to AQM, when it deploys a very big TCP Window Size can be used without any drawbacks. For RTT, that will vary
between network vendors, Ericsson has one of the fastest networks with RTT about 100 ms, but if a re-transmission is needed you
will end up with 200 ms. If you then are doing tests with up to 5 Mbps with one retransmission you will need a window size of about
5 000 000 * 0.2/8 ~ 125 kByte. Practical tests has however shown that due to additional delays the performance is even better with
a buffer twice as big, i.e. 250 kB.

But this means that if you are running a tests with 1.2 Mbps under the same circumstances, the window size should be divided by
about 4 and a 65 kB should be suitable.

23. When TEMS Pocket is in active mode can it be used in TEMS Investigation?
No, TEMS Pocket cannot be used while in active mode with TEMS Investigation. It will be in inactive mode while connected to
TEMS Investigation.

24. Failure to load cellfiles in xml format in TEMS Investigation ver 7.1 and 8.0.
On some older installations of Windows XP/Windows2000 you may experience problems loading cellfiles in xml format.
Symptoms are:
- Trying to load the cellfile in DataCollection, nothing appears on the map
- Trying to load the cellfile in RouteAnalysis, you receive a "Failed to load cellfile" message

To solve this problem, you will need to download and install the MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2.

25. HASP SRM Network Key Version 8.1.

After upgrading to HASP SRM Network Key I can't get any license when my client computer is on a different subnet.
I have configured the nethasp.ini file with the IP address of the machine that has the HASP Network Key attached, but this doesn't
seem to help.

In HASP SRM, the nethasp.ini file is no longer used to configure the location of the remote license manager.
Instead there is a web interface available (on all clients with HASP SRM) that is used for this purpose.

On your client, use the web browser and enter http://127.0.0.1:1947

Important: Don't forget the :1947 part of the address.

You will be presented with the HASP License Manager Admin Control Center.

1. Select Configuration on the left pane.

2. Select the "Access To Remote License Manager" tab.
3. Enter the IP address (or fully qualified DNS Name) of the machine that has the HASP Network Key attached in the "Specify
Search Parameters" field.
4. Click Submit.

For more detailed information, use the built-in Help pages available in the "HASP License Manager Admin Control Center"
webpage.

26. Why can I no longer pair the phone to the AQM module in the equipment properties window?
This will be a problem if customers previously used an AQM module and then later upgrade to TEMS Investigation ver 8.1.1. As a
result, the module will not show up in the Select AQM module menu even if it is visible and seemingly functioning in the device
manager.

A new AQM module driver has been updated in the TEMS Investigation 8.1.1 release. The new driver can be found on the TEMS
Investigation 8.1.1 UE Drivers - Drivers R2B.exe, a new driver on the cd release.

Run the executable to extract all drivers.

The file called libusb0.dll has changed its version. The file is located in the C:\Program Files\TEMS Products\Application folder and
also in C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder . Both of the files need to have the same version, if the versions are not the same, TEMS
Investigation will not be able to communicate with the AQM module. To check the version of the file, right click the file and choose
properties, then select the version on the tab. The latest version should be 0.1.12.1 and the old version is 0.1.10.
To update the driver for the AQM module , go to the device manager and right click on the LIB USB- Win32 Device - PESQ DSP.
Choose update driver and select the latest driver folder AQM\PESQ_DSP.

27. Older firmware versions of the GARMIN GPS 18 USB has the following known problems:

USB Connect/disconnect issues

timestamps problems
slow to update position once powered up

Garmin has fixed these problems, the firmware for the GPS 18 can be downloaded at the Garmin website:

There you will also find instructions on how to upgrade the GPS firmware.

28. What happens when I get a RAS dial up error ( e.g. 719, 718, 734)?

You need to check that the phone has a correct APN. Detailed instructions on how to verify the used APN Settings used in the
phone, please see the TEMS Investigation Manual Chapter 8.5.

In addition, you could also go to Device Manager > Modems > select a phone modem > right mouse click and select properties >
Advanced tab and enter at+cgdcont=1,"IP","fill in the APN settings here."

29. When attempting to apply a c2v file to the hasp you get error "Invalid Update Object".

The customer needs to download the newest version HASPRUS 5.0 from the support website and use this utility to apply the c2v
file.

30. When attempting to apply a c2v file to the hasp you get error "HASP LM version is too old".
Follow steps below.

Download the ftp://ftp.aladdin.com/pub/hasp/srm/Runtime_(drivers)/hasp_srm_runtime_cmd_line.zip from Aladdin and:

unpack the haspdinst.exe to a directory
run (cmd line) haspdinst /fr /kp
reboot
run haspdinst /I
Reapply the license.

31. When trying to update the firmware on an old version TEMS Investigation key, update does not apply and key is no longer
usable "Blinking red light"
On the TEMS Investigation Installation CD there is a utility from Aladdin that will fix this. Find it in: :\Hasp tools\fwrecovery.

Launch the application, highlight the entry in the dialog box so that the "Recovery" button turns on.
Select the Recover
