Week in Review …
Grandparent’s Day was terrific! The children were
so happy to share their school with their special
visitors. They shined when performing their special
song, too! The children enjoyed all of the reading
activities they worked on during the week. March is
marching on, and we are busy every day!
Next week in Religion …
We will continue our discussion of the Lenten
Season. The children have written something they
will do this Lent to become closer to Jesus. Please
ask what it is and encourage them to do this
throughout Lent. We will be attending the Stations
of the Cross each Friday of Lent. We will also be
learning about St. Patrick and St. Joseph whose
feast days we will be celebrating.
Next week in Reading/Phonics …
The stories for the week will be The Birthday Party
and Hot Sun. The story, The Birthday Party,
continues reinforcing long vowel words and
introduces the R family. Hot Sun continues the use
of the short vowel words.
Student story readers will be: Monday- Mariya,
Tuesday-Sophia, Wednesday- Matteo, and Thursday-
Veronica.
Next week in Spelling …
The spelling words for Thursday, March 17th are
long e words spelled with ea. The words are: heat,
dream, east, clean, please, each, team, seat, bead,
lead *these, *write.

Next week in Math…
We continue in Chapter 11, “Addition and Subtraction
Facts to 18.” We will revisit the addition strategies of
double facts, doubles plus one, and doubles minus one.
The children will be introduced to the strategy of making
10; find sums by making 10 when adding to 8 or 9. Please
continue practicing the addition facts to 18. The children
will continue having weekly fact tests.
Next week in Social Studies/Science…
We begin Unit C, Chapter 1, “Earth’s Land.” On Monday,
the children will visit the science lab and make
observations about different rocks. If your child has any
“interesting” rocks they have collected, they may bring
them to class for Monday. Not too big please!
Next week in English/Handwriting …
This week the children will be writing a short description
about a person, place, thing or an event.

• Library books due Tuesday, March 15th
• $l.00 casual day, wear green Wednesday, March
16th
• No school Friday, March 18th
• Supply boxes are running low on pencils and glue
sticks. I’m sending them home, please clean out
