Nowdays the city is the most common way of human living.
This thought together with the new needs of the contemporary inhabitant, his
living models, the increase of terrain vague and junkspace, the social changes
which develop the new ways of using the territory have pushed me to
investigate the theme of colture urbane. My consideration assumes the
coltivation of the city as the matrix of hypotetic future scenarios.
Coltura urbana is considered as the intersection point between the countryside
and the city. It is the means to get qualities of the rural landscape within an
urban landscape in order to obtain new ways of reappropriation of the territory.
Reappropriation is one of the possible ways to combine the continous and
increasing need of landscape with the inevitable expansion of urban grouping.
The idea is to look for an interaction between the city and the countryside in
order to find a new kind of rurality. The incipit is to start reading some parts of
the city as parts of a natural landscape. The new opportunities of
transformations should be investigated trough the knowledge of the soil. ‘ To
know ‘ means to identify, to read and list autochthonous species, tracks, signs
and urban identifying characteristics in order to work out possible strategies
useful to renforce the urban culture of the site.
