Excellence of Holy Quran

Surat Al-Fātiĥah (The Opener)

In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

[All] praise is [due] to Allah , Lord of the worlds -

The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.

It is You we worship and You we ask for help.

Guide us to the straight path -

The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have
evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

The superiority and excellence of the Holy Quran:

Quran is the final verdict of Allah (SWT) to mankind. He created human,
and then sent His messengers along with manuscripts to guide the human how to
live in this world. Quran is His final word, delivered to us by the final prophet
Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).

Human being is a raw material and needs refining and polishing to live in
this world with a manner able and acceptable way. Quran guides humans in all
possible ways. It has orders from Allah, stories of messengers, it is Mohaiman
(Savior of previous manuscripts), it warns us and then it tells us about the rewards
we¶ll have after following its teachings in this world and world hereafter.

Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

"The Book of the Almighty comprises of the narratives and incidents of the
ancients; the news of the future ones; and the rules and regulations amongst you.
The Holy Quran was the measure and weight of the truth and falsehood and it is
not facetious and in vain."

Excellence in light of Ayats:

Notwithstanding the literary excellence of some of the long pre-Islamic poems, or
qasaid, the Qur'an is definitely on a level of its own as the most eminent written
manifestation of the Arabic language.

Qur'an states,

"If you are in doubt of what We have revealed to Our messenger, then
produce one chapter like it. Call upon all your helpers, besides Allah, if you
are truthful"
([Qur'an 2: 23])

And

"Or do they say he fabricated the message? Nay, they have no faith. Let them
produce a recital like it, if they speak the truth."

Excellence in light of Hadith:

1) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: ³The best of you is he who learnt the Holy
Quran and taught it to others.´ (Bukhari)

2) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: ³Undoubtedly, the heart gets rusted like
metal gets rusted when water goes over it. The People asked, "How can they
[hearts] be cleaned." The Prophet replied, "To remember death in abundance and to
recite the Holy Quran."´(Mishkat)

3) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: ³That chest which does not have any
Quran in it is like an abandoned house.´ (Tirmizi, Darmi)

4) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: ³Whoever read the Quran and memorized
it and belived its' Halal to be Halal and its Haram to be Haram [i.e., accepted it
commandments of Halal and Haraam], Allah will accept the intercession for such
10 people on from him whom Hell had already become Wajib.´ (Tirmizi, Ibn-e-
Majah)

5) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

Allah says, "Whoever was kept busy with the [recitation] of Quran from my Zikr
and asking me, I will give him better than those who I give to those who ask" and
the excellence of the Word of Allah over all the other words is like the excellence
of Allah over all his creation.´

6) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: ³Learn the Quran and read it because

with Musk whose fragrance is spread everywhere and whoever learned the Quran

and slept that is he did not do Qiyamul Layl is like a bag which is filled with Musk

7) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

"The superiority and preference of the Holy Quran on all other books and sayings
is the same as the superiority of Almighty over His creatures."

8) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

"The Holy Quran is superior and excellent to everything other than Almighty Allah
(SWT)."

9) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

"One who reads the Holy Quran, then he imagines that somebody (else) has
received better and superior than him, then most certainly he has considered it
insignificant the thing that is honorable and great before the Almighty."

10) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

"Whenever mischief and seditions surround you like a part of the darkness of the
night then (take refuge and) go towards the Holy Quran."

11) Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

"The Holy Quran is a wealth that no wealth can equal (or reach) it. And there will
be no poverty after it."

After Allah (s.w.t.) explains the state of the hypocrite and disbelievers, and,
through the creation of the heaven and the earth, sending down rain and growing
plants on the ground, proves the existence of the Creator and Cherisher of the
universe, He begins to validate the rightfulness of the Holy Qur'an and the
truthfulness of His Messenger.

In order to show everyone the miraculousness of the Qur'an with clear evidence,
according to one's portion of wit and understanding, that the Qur'an will be an
argument for all, Allah confirms the prophet hood of Prophet Muhammad (saw)
and the authenticity of the Holy Qur'an by suggesting a challenge, a direct
confrontation, not only to all the contemporaries of the Prophet (saw) but also to
men in all ages. "And if you are in doubt of what We have sent down to Our
(faithful) Servant (Muhammad),..."

It addresses all the rejectors, with a concrete test, saying that if you imagine that
the Qur'an, which has been sent down from Pure Holiness to the chosen servant of
Allah in the form of statements and with the combination of ordinary alphabetical
letters, is not from Him and it is the word of a human, then since outwardly you are
in the same state from the point of being a human as the Prophet of Islam (p.b.u.h.)
is, you should be able to produce a Sura like that of the Qur'an and call your own
witnesses that are like you, the disbelievers of the Qur'an.

SCIENTIFIC MIRACLES OF QURAN:

The ³scientific miracles´ of the Quran is a topic that many people are talking about
nowadays, as the research in many fields continues. The source for this is
probably the fact that there are literally hundreds of verses of the Quran in which
God points to different aspects of this creation and encourages humans to reflect
and learn from what they are seeing.

In his discussion of the Quran, Bucaille emphasizes three important points:

a) First, there is nothing in the Quran that contradicts modern science;

b) second, there is no mention of some of the false beliefs that people had
at that time of the Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of
God be upon him, concerning the creation, the universe and science in
general; and,
c
Assignment (Excellence of Holy Quran)
Islamic Studies

c) three, there is no way that the Prophet Muhammad could have known
at his time many of the facts alluded to in the Quran.

For the sake of brevity, though, it will be possible to discuss only one verse in
some detail here demonstrating the ³scientific miracles´ of the Quran.

Upon reading the Quran, one topic that catches many a reader¶s eye is the
discussion of the creation of the human within the womb of the mother. God says
in the Quran:

èWe created man from an extract of clay. Then We made him as a drop in a
place of settlement, firmly fixed. Then We made the drop into an
(leech, suspended thing, and blood clot), then We made the into

 (chewed-like substance)«´

(Quran 23:12-14)

Commenting on the miraculous consistency between statements in

the Quran and the historical development of Embryology, r. Moore stated in
1981, ³It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Quran
about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come
to Muhammad from God, because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered
until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a
messenger of God.´

MATHEMATICAL MIRACLES:
92- And to recite the Quran èWhoever comes to guidance does for
himself; and if any stray, say èI am only a warner.´
93- Say èAll praise be to God. He will show you His signs, and you will
recognize them. Your Lord is never unaware of anything you do.´
ccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc cc c

The verse number 93 above predicts that God will reveal His miracles
sometime in the future. The miraculous statements of the Quran are presented
separately from the Prophet¶s sayings. Even if all the knowledge of the Prophet¶s
era were put together, it would not suffice to vie with these miracles. Had the
author of these miracles been Muhammad of the deserts himself, he would have
used them in order to impress his own people, to demonstrate them the perfection
of the Quran and to put an end to their recalcitrance. The Muslim world itself was
unaware of these miracles until quite recently, namely up until 40 years ago. God
c
Assignment (Excellence of Holy Quran)

reveals His miracles when the time is ripe. Persons of sound mind and clear
conscience will appreciate these miracles, praise God and thank Him.

20- They say èHow is it that no sign was sent to him by His Lord.
Whatever can not be perceived belongs to God. So wait and I am waiting
with you.´
¥ c

The fact that God will show His miracles in the future is also confirmed in the
above verse. Disbelievers insist on miracles, and yet when they see one performed
they pursue in their disbelief. It is clear that the insistence of disbelievers is far
from an honest demand, and it is antagonism for antagonism¶s sake.

Ñ - I will divert from My signs those who behave unjustly with arrogance
on earth. Even though they see every kind of signs, they will not believe and
when they see the path of guidance, will not take it to be a way. But when they
see the path of straying, they will adopt it as their path. This is so for they
have called our signs lies, and have been heedless of them.

THE INCONTESTABLE CERTAINTIES OF

MATHEMATICS:
In this part of our book, we shall be dealing with the mathematical miracles in
the Quran. Mathematics is a basic tool and a common language of all sciences.
Mathematical certainty has always impressed philosophers throughout history. The
importance of it was appreciated better after the 16th century. Big improvements
were achieved in sciences, because of the scientific approach adopted that placed
mathematics right in the center. Cars, trains, satellites, medications,
communication means and the technological wonders of the modern age owe their
origins to mathematics. Without mathematics we could not understand the
universe, nor could we come up with an invention.

The value of mathematics was not entirely ignored in the past, but it was in the
course of the last four centuries that it gained ascendance. Today¶s scientific logic
is a product of mathematics. Galileo, who played an important role in endowing
mathematics with this central role, said; ³Mathematics is the language in which
God composed the universe.´ No other discipline has had a field of application of
such scope. Philosophers, amongst others Pythagoras sensed that the basic order of
the universe was numerical, and they attached mystical meanings to mathematics.

c
Assignment (Excellence of Holy Quran)
Islamic Studies

However, not until recent past, was the scientific logic constructed on
mathematics. Descartes, one of the main actors to translate science into the
language of mathematics who combined arithmetic with geometry on Cartesian
coordinates says, ³Mathematics may and must be the common link among
intellectual disciplines.´

Mathematics should be considered as the biggest discovery of mankind From

Edison¶s electric bulb to race cars, from Einstein¶s theory of relativity to Newton¶s
Law of Gravitation, all these inventions owe their origin to the fundamental
importance of mathematics¶ language. The Quran mentioned the importance of
mathematics 1400 years ago. It continuously draws our attention to the sensitive
balance and the role of mathematics in the universe.

5- The sun and the moon are calculated.

cccccccccccccccccccccc c

USE OF MATHEMATICS:

In our age, every science is in pursuit of mathematical certainty and approval.

Even if it fails to find that certainty, it envies those have it. People searching for
certainty in religion also look for a mathematical language. Carl Sagan is an author
on astronomy and his imaginative explanations in his book ³Contact´ is a good
example of people¶s expectations of mathematical proofs from God.

³No, do not you see: This would be different. This is not just starting the
universe out with some precise mathematical laws that determine physics
and chemistry. This is a message. Whoever makes the universe hides
messages in transcendental numbers so they¶ll be read fifteen billion years
later when intelligent life finally evolves. I criticized you and Rankin the
time we first met for not understanding this. µIf God wanted us to know
that He existed, why didn¶t he send us an unambiguous message? I asked.
Remember?´

³I remember very well. You think God is a mathematician.´

³Something like that. If what we¶re told is true. If this is not a wild-goose
chase. If there¶s a message hiding in pi and not one of the infinity of other
transcendental numbers. That¶s a lot of ifs.´

c
Assignment (Excellence of Holy Quran)
Islamic Studies

³You¶re looking for Revelation in arithmetic. I know a better way.´

³Palmer, this is the only way. This is the only thing that would convince a
skeptic. Imagine we find something. It doesn¶t have to be tremendously
complicated. Just something more orderly than could accumulate by
chance that many digits into pi. That¶s all we need. Then mathematicians
all over the world can find exactly the same pattern or message or
whatever it proves to be. Then there are no sectarian divisions. Everybody
begins reading the same Scripture. No one could then argue that the key
miracle in the religion was some conjurer¶s trick, or that later historians
had falsified the record, or that it is just hysteria or delusion or a substitute
parent for when grow up. Everyone could be a believer.´ (Carl Sagan,
Contact, Simon and Schuster, the number 1985, 418-4the number 19, New
York)

NOT EVEN ONE SINGLE SURAH CAN BE UPLICATE :

23- If you are in doubt of what we have revealed to our Servant,
and then bring a surah like this, and call any witness, apart from God, you
like if you are truthful.

2 - But if you cannot, as indeed you cannot, then guard

yourselves against the fire whose fuel is men and rocks which has been
prepared for the disbelievers.
ccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc cc c c

You will see very clearly that it is quite impossible to imitate even a single sura
in the Quran, when you start reading the sections of the present work on the
Quran¶s mathematical miracles. Every sura happens to be encoded and the words
used in them are interlocked in mathematical terms and every particular sura is
locked in by a mathematical code. (Here we say èmany´ just because of the
miracles that are discovered in our age. When the mathematical miracle in the
Quran will be developed in the future in a much detailed way, we are sure
that this miracle will cover every word in the Quran) If you leave out a single
sura from the Quran then the number of suras, 114 (the number 19X6) will suffer
injury. Assuming that the word ³day´ (yewm) is used twice in this sura, with the
dismissal of that sura, the frequency of the word ³day´ in the Quran, which is 365,
will be reduced to 363, spoiling the mathematical code. Again assuming that the

c
Assignment (Excellence of Holy Quran)
Islamic Studies

word ³world´ is mentioned three times and the word ³hereafter´ is mentioned
once.

The mathematical and scientific miracles God displays are for the people who
use their minds and have intention to see them. Stubborn deniers, people taking
advantage of religion and people who experience it by imitating the people around
themselves; they can not draw any benefit of these miracles unless they change
their self seeking attitudes. God despises the people who imitate other people as
ritual. The real value is in the people who do not expect any worldly benefits, who
use their minds, explore, and search for evidences in the universe and in the holy
books. Woe to emulators deprived of discursive reason who believes in what a
saint or a sheik says so and follows the things they do not know. May God protect
us from people who sell their religion in consideration for a few dollars, euros,
gold coins and seek reputation, and from these who represent religion as myths and
dreams?

God sent us a book the contents of which are endorsed by the miracles it
reveals. It displays miracles and proofs contents being coded in mathematical
criteria. The Quran is a guide for us.

50- For they say:´ How is it no signs were sent down to Him from His
Lord?´ Say èThe signs are with God. I am only a plain Warner.´
5Ñ- Is it not sufficient for them that We have revealed the Book to you
which is read out to them? It is indeed a grace and reminder for people
who believe.

NUMERICALLY STRUCTURE BOOK:

Of the Quran¶s the 83rd surah, the Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen), speaks of an
³encoded book´ in two instances. The Arabic of this word is ³kitabun markum.´
These verses are evidences of God¶s encoding the books, His involving
mathematics into the system. The following verses are representative specimens.

7- Indeed, the book of the wicked is in Sijjeen.

EASY TO UNERSTAN, IMPOSSIBLE TO IMMITATE:

We have divided the presentation of the mathematical miracles into two
groups. The first group consists of the Mathematical Miracles of concordance
(MMLH)). We shall tackle the subject from different angles: (1) the lexical
concordance (2) the concordance of words among themselves and (3) the
concordance of words with Universal phenomenon. These miracles are easy to
understand but impossible to imitate. Even the ones who are not really interested in
mathematics can easily understand the miracles in question. The second part takes
up the ³miracle of the number 19´. We shall dwell particularly number 19, an
enigmatic figure mentioned in the Quran. We shall see that the whole Quran is
imbued with it. Anybody who can count from 1 to 19 can easily witness to this
miracle, easy to understand but impossible to imitate. We run across this mystery
in many instances. To understand all the characteristics that this number contains
one must have recourse to the theory of probability and a deeper research is
needed.

88- Say, èIf all the humans and the jinns came together in order to
produce a The Quran like this, they would surely fail, no matter how
much assistance they lent one another.´

The Recitation of Holy Quran:c

Hazrat Abu Sa¶id al-Khudri reported that Hazrat Usaid ibn Huzair said that
one night, when he was reciting Surah al-Baqarah with his horse tied beside him, it

resumed recitation it again started jumping. So he again stopped reciting and it also
kept quiet. Then he again recited and the horse again started jumping. So he
finished reciting, for his son Yahya was near it and he was afraid it might injure
him. When he had moved him back, he raised his head to the sky and saw

what seemed to be lamps in it, I went out but could not see them.´ He asked, ³Do
you know what it was?´ He said, ³I do not.´ He said, ³Those were the angels who
