9. Course Description: The aim of this course is to provide the students with a
general introduction to English morphology and syntax. It is designed to give the
students a brief glimpse of the theory and practice of the structural grammar of the
English language. A detailed analysis of English morphemes and word formation
processes as well as the structure of English sentences and phrases will be treated.

10. Course Aims and Objectives:

1. Introduce  students to Morphology.

2. Introduce students to how words are formed in English.

3. Introduce students to the different inflectional paradigms in English.

4. Students learn about NP and VP in detail.

5. Introduce students to the basic sentence patterns in English.

11. Course Main Subjects: Morphology and Syntax

12. Methods of Assessment: Students are given two mid-term (10 marks each).
Students are also required to give a presentation of a research paper on the
etymology of a word or phrase of their choice (15 marks). Students have to sit in for
a final exam (60 marks). Participation in class (5 marks).
