Reform (Word limit – 300 words)

Reforms are vital for every organization. UN realized the importance of such reforms and
committed itself to introduce various reforms ranging from tackling developmental hurdles to
providing human rights to all. To form a more integrated and motivated UN family UN is
also streamlining its management and operation practices.

UN aims to alleviate poverty at an exponential pace and is continuously working for this
cause through its programs like The Millennium Development Goals (MDG) which further
gave rise to a dedicated group for Africa known as Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
Africa Steering Group. UN is collaborating with various countries, organizations & states
for achieving international goals on mutual issues like climate change, global health,
economic stability et al.

UN since its inception has looked forward towards conflict prevention & peacemaking and
hence has floated various reforms to give direction to its objectives. Some of the major
initiatives in this context include restructuring of DPO; creating DFS, initiation of UN
“stand-by” mediation team, establishment of PBC & Peacebuilding Fund etc. To tackle
the grave problem of global terrorism all UN Member States agreed to a common strategic
and operational approach known as UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

UN considers Human Rights as essential for every being and is endlessly functioning to
provide such rights through expansion of OHCHR and rejuvenation of Human Rights
Council. Other UN reforms include strengthening of Humanitarian Action, Setting highest
ethical standards, Improving accountability and oversight et al.

UN has been serving all its member states with full dedication and has been there for their
support at odd times. Through introduction of new reforms and better implementation of
previous ones it is sure to serve the member states and world in a much better way.
