About appreciation

In this article I will talk about how some important personalities were
treated by their contemporaries during in their life lives and after their death. It is
very easy to notice that almost all the time life isn’t fair with people and few times
they manage to have the assessment and a real appreciation of their contemporaries
during their lives. This had happened almost with all great writers ,painters and
scientists because through their work and thinking they were the so called “road
openers’’ and they always surpassed the power of understanding of their
contemporaries among whom they lived.
Another aspect which derives is that those people who should judge
and appreciate the work and the achievements of a special person confuse his daily
life with his work and also forget that a person’s life is short –lived but his work is
eternal. Thus ,many commentators searched only biographical aspects which they
judged and tried to characterize their achievements only through petty aspects of
their lives. In the English literature is good to notice the case of William
Shakespeare whose genial work wasn’t understood by his contemporaries and a lot
of time had to pass for his work to be appreciated at its true value even if there were
some contemporaries like Ben Jhonson who understood the value of Shakespeare’s
masterpiece. In our literature case of Mihai Eminescu ‘s is well-known. He wasn’t
understood by his contemporaries either. A lot of years had pass so as the great
literary critics like George Calinescu , Vladimir Strainul or Garabeth Ibaraileau ,
to discover the originality of Eminescu ‘s work. On the other hand , another
example is the life and the work of Vincent Van Gogh a great Dutch painter , who
lived and died poor and isolated far from his native country and after a century his
paintings value hundreds million of dollars. So we can notice that in almost all the
cases , the great artists were poor and couldn’t enjoy the true value of their works.
A similar case happened in our school after the death of our sport
teacher and deputy school headmaster , Popa Ioan . I consider that the activity of
this man wasn’t appreciated enough because he was a very good football player , a
good sport teacher and deputy school headmaster and he was endowed with
a special character. For instance , through his activity as a deputy school
headmaster he made the school to work well and as a teacher he formed a lot of
young sports generations , I consider that for all of these he should have been more
appreciated in his life and not just after death. Finally , I consider that a lot of
special people were never appreciated at their real value by their contemporaries
and there had to come other people to discover their real value.
