As we said goodbye to our retired Chamber GM Bob Scott,
we welcomed Mark Lewis as he took the helm. Mark has
been actively engaged, attending Chamber events, board,
committee and executive meetings. After a short period of
“job shadowing” with Bob, he’s ready to help steer the
Chamber steadily into the future.
As Mark makes his mark, we look forward to some vibrant
events:
We’re quickly organizing for a spring Federal election. The
Chamber will be involved locally to create a buzz so stay
tuned! Our April 12th breakfast at the Harbour Restaurant,
with Sidneyeve Martix kicks off our month. Sponsored by
VIVA Productions, Ms. Matrix will speak about the risks
and rewards of web marketing. That’s a very nice match!
Sidneyeve is an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University
in media and film, always on the leading edge of the i-
Generation and delivers crucial updates on e-commerce
and business. This aligns well with the Greater Kingston
Chamber of Commerce’s highlighted presence on
Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and our own website.
It is also important to pair social media with face to face
engagements. Therefore, April also showcases a cool new
event- Speed Networking. I’m sure we’re all aware of
Speed dating. Now, let’s see it take the networking world
by storm. In a matter of seconds, you’ll be in front of your
business peers to sell yourself and your company at the
Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront. The day will be

As spring blooms, tourism heats up in our City. The
Chamber’s Confederation Tour Trolley takes to the streets
next month and the attractions will open their doors to
what promises to be an exciting season! Make sure that
you take the time to be a tourist in your own city; Kingston
has many fabulous shops, restaurants, accommodations,
museums and attractions including Fort Henry - a UNESCO
world heritage site that delivers the experience that
visitors want. I’ll see you there!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the
people in Kingston who over the years have made my
job as the General Manager the “best job I ever had.”
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that
there was so much support. It really is a little
overwhelming. Thank you!
You may not be aware but the most common question
people who are retiring hear is “what will you be
doing?” I plan to play a lot of golf (every day). I will be
doing a little bit of travelling and I have many things to
do around the house. Over the years, the “to do” list
has become extensive. My friends all tease me about
what I would do if my wife Luce passed away. They say I
wouldn’t survive if I didn’t get married on the way home
from the funeral. Yes, I’m going to learn how to cook!
Does anyone want to be our first dinner guests? Also, I
intend to stay involved and volunteer in areas where I
can be of assistance and bring value to this great
community.
In my job at the Chamber I have been very fortunate to
learn that life is all about relationships and
communications. That’s exactly what the Chamber
does. I have really enjoyed working with our staff at the
Chamber. Bill, Dana, David and Debbie you are the best
team: - A dream team! I have learned from the 13
Boards of Directors that I have served. We always have
dealt with issues, contributed to our member’s
betterment and brought value to the community.
So, once again, thanks to all my friends (and my
adversaries who I respect). It has been a great
experience! I look forward to working with you in the
future on new projects.

2011 Chamber Breakfast AGM – Cutting
Edge Technology the way forward for
Queen’s AND our Business Community.
On Tuesday, the 8th of March, the Greater Kingston
Chamber of Commerce held its Annual General
Meeting at the Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront, with
close to 100 guests attending. Guest speakers featured
Queen's Principal Daniel Woolf and Professor Michael
Cunningham who discussed the synergy between
Queen’s and the City regarding economic
development. Professor Cunningham's research
interests involve the design of polymeric nanoparticles
with controlled microstructure and the kinetics of
polymerization reactions. Dr. Cunningham holds an
Ontario Research Chair in Green Chemistry and
Engineering.

Once again, the Greater Kingston Chamber of
