This April 9 marks the eighth anniversary of the capture of Baghdad by US forces after

they successfully accomplished a series of ferocious assaults on the capital city of Iraq.
US forces were known to have used inhuman, or illegal munitions and weapons in the
battle for the city. US tanks such as the type shown above fired many shells coated with
depleted uranium (DU) against targets in the city, including many buildings and shelters
filled with innocent and helpless civilians. These civilians became part of the estimated
nearly 10,000 civilians killed by US and other western forces during this (initial) period
of the fighting, beginning from the March 20 invasion to the April 9 fall of Baghdad.

US armoured forces were able to push aside Iraqi army units defending the roads leading
to the city, but they encountered stiff resistance from irregular forces, including fighters
who came from other countries. Several armoured US thrusts were mounted against the
city's defences, and some advance units got through but had to quickly withdraw or were
beaten back. At least one supposedly invincible US Abrams tank ( which had made good
mincemeat of Iraqi army tanks in ground combat) was disabled by the defenders. The US
commander in charge of the assault claimed that the multiple thrusts against the city was
to send a message to Saddam that the US army could enter and leave Baghdad as it liked.

However, the irregular units defending the city were tougher than the Iraqi army and the
US forces were forced to use helicopters and fighter jets to bomb place after place. It was
alleged that napalm was used by the attacking aircraft in some of the attacks. Napalm is
very effective in neutralising pockets of stiff resistance as anyone not killed by the very
fierce firecloud or burning would unlikely survive the lack of oxygen in a napalm attack.
The US government denied using napalm when attacking the city, but later reports from
pilots confirmed it was used many times by US aircraft. Truly the US government is
made up of nothing but liars, cold-hearted murderers and totally uncivilised slaughterers.

The US army was also alleged to have employed thermobaric or hyperbaric weapons
during the battle for the city. These weapons are designed to produce very intense heat
and changes in air pressure over a considerable area during and after a detonation. Such
weapons make no distinction between armed fighters and civilians taking shelter. The
US is still the only nation known to actively or regularly employ such weapons in war.
The world must remember the atrocities committed against Baghdad even as the 'world
media' and world politicians cheer the current assault on the capital city of Libya.
