'Which is known to have been written in 825 of the Mulabar Era corresponding to 1650 A. D. It is therefore certain that the author flourished earlier than 1650 A, D. From the 'Word o~ ill the above quotation it seems that HUJ;ladipika was a well known work at the time of the author of the Prasnamarga; and as it is natural to suppose that the work should at least have taken a century before it could become 80 popular, I think we illay not be far from right if we assign the date of the author a century earlier than 1650 A. D. If however, we take the word Rajaraja mentioned ill the verse mr~~tnf'i\!~it to mean the same !loR the king or Mahodayapura described in the gukasandee!l

The work has epitomised in eight chapters the following eizht topics respectively, viz., (1) if<IT~~, (2) ~f,Aifi, (3"1) ~~'1'i, (4) 'PT~~'1'i, (5} ~~oq$flI"R14'1i, (6) ~{. f?t1A;, (7) ~~~~and (8) ~<?i'~~'1'i, which are found elaborately dealt with in the Arthasltstl.'a, Jyotistantra, Svaragamn, Puksisastru and other sciences. The author was well versed in various brauches of sastras and is also known to hare been a snceessful astrologer gifted. with wonderful power of prediction. It is interesting to note that the author forecasts in the verse,
