i. Appeared in a body – Jesus’ incarnation is the
basis of our being right with God

resurrection showed that the Holy Spirits’ power
is in Him
iii. Was seen by angels and was taken up into

A. How not to teach (vs. 1-3)

VII. Instructions for Proper Care (5:1-6:2)
A. Act as Family (vs. 1-2)
1. Older men – do not rebuke badly, treat as dad
2. Younger men treat as brothers
3. Older women as mothers
4. Younger women as sisters with purity
B. Widows (vs. 3-16)
1. Give proper recognition to those in need. (vs. 3)
2. Children and grandchildren should put widows in their family
first and take care of them in repayment (vs. 4)
3. Widow living in need = prays to God and puts her hope and trust
in Him. (vs. 5)
4. Widow living for pleasure = dead even though she lives (vs. 6)
5. If anyone does not provide for family and relatives he has denied
his faith and is worse than unbelievers (vs. 8)
C. Lists for Widows.
1. If over sixty (vs. 9-10)
a. May be put on the list of widows (vs. 9a)
b. Must have been faithful to her husband (vs. 9b)
c. Known for good deeds (vs. 10)
i. Bringing up children
ii. Showing hospitality
iii. Humility
iv. Generosity
v. Devotion to God through good works
2. Younger widows (vs. 11-14)
a. Cannot be on such a list (vs. 11)
b. Are more apt to remarry by their desires. (vs. 12)
i. Would bring judgment on themselves because
of breaking their first pledge(devotion and life
to God)
c. More apt to become gossips and busybodies because of
idleness. (vs. 13)
d. Counsel younger widows to remarry so the enemy has no
opportunity for slander and attack. (vs. 14)
D. Women responsible for widows in their family so church can help those in
need. (vs. 16)
E. Elders (vs. 17-20)
1. Worthy of double honor (vs. 17)
2. Do not entertain an accusation against such as these unless
brought up by two or three witnesses. (vs. 19)
3. If there is need then rebuking is to be done publicly so others will
learn and take heed. (vs. 20)
F. Keep these without partiality and without favoritism. (vs. 21)
G. Do not be hasty in making decisions or choosing who to ordain. (vs. 22)
 H. Just because you do not see the results of sin right away does not mean
they are not there or are not going to come up later. The same is true
about good deeds and their results. (vs. 24-25)
I. Worker and Boss Relations (vs. 6:1-2)
1. Workers should consider their bosses worthy of full respect (vs.
1a)
a. This is so God’s name and our teaching cannot be
slandered and put aside. (vs. 1b)
2. With a boss who is a believer (vs. 2)
a. Do not show them less respect (vs. 2a)
b. Show them more respect because of the people who benefit
from the boss’s service. (vs. 2b)
VIII. Love of Money (vs. 6:3-10)
A. Do not be a person who goes at it for mere financial gain. (vs. 3-5)
1. By teaching false doctrines and not agreeing with the sound
instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ. (vs. 3)
2. By conceit understanding nothing. (vs. 4a)
3. More interested in arguing and debating over things (vs. 4b)
a. Resulting in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and
constant friction
B. Godliness with contentment is great gain (vs. 6-10)
1. We bring nothing with us so why try to take things of this world
with that cannot go with us to where we are going. (vs. 7)
2. Be content with the necessities of life and nothing more. (vs. 8)
3. Do not fall into the temptation of becoming rich and thus falling
into much foolishness and harmful desires (vs. 9)
a. Thus leading to ruin and destruction.
4. The love of money is the root of all evil and leads us from the
faith piercing ourselves with grief. (vs. 10)
IX. Timothy’s Challenge. (vs. 6:11-21)
A. Flee from all desires and temptations (vs. 11a)
 B. Pursuit righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
(vs. 11b)
C. Grab hold of the gift God has given, eternal life with him, and fight the
good fight confessing in front of many what God has done and continues
to do. (vs. 12)
D. Like Jesus before Pontius Pilate, keep this without spot or blame until
Christ’s return. (vs. 13-14)
X. Closing (vs. 6:17-21)
A. Teach people with admonition (vs. 17-18)
1. To not be arrogant or to put their hope in wealth which is
uncertain
2. To put their hope, rather, in God, who richly provides for those
who believe with everything they need.
3. To do good and be rich in good deeds.
4. Be generous and willing to share
5. In this way will you lay up treasures in heaven and lay a firm
foundation for generations and the children to come.
B. Guard what has been entrusted to your care. (vs. 20-21)
1. Staying away from godless chatter
2. Staying away from the ways of false knowledge
a. Which leads people astray and does so already.
