CHAPTER 1

INTERODUCTION
Based on the idea that “happy workers are productive workers” job is a widely studied
area of a job satisfaction. The term “job satisfaction “ refers to an employer’s general
attitude towards his job. To the extend that a person’s job fulfils his dominant need and is
consistent with his expectation and values, the job will be satisfying.
The success of an organization depends largely on the quantity of the human
resources. So human resources management should determined how an organization
should move from its general man power position to its clarified manpower position. The
job satisfaction of employee is affected with several organizational and person variables.
Organizational level, job content leadership inefficiency, over load of work etc. are the
organizational variables. And the age, educational level ,sex ,marital status are other
personal variables’ which effect the job satisfaction of employees.
MEANING AND DEFINTION.
Job satisfaction is the amount of pleasure or content associated with a job. If you job
intensely, you will experience high job satisfaction. If you dislike your job intensely, you
will experience job dissatisfaction.
DEFINITIONS.
1. According to E. A . Locke
Job satisfaction is a pleasurable or positive emotional state resulting form the
appraisal of one’s job experiences.
2. According to Keith Davis and Newstorm
Job satisfaction is the set of favourable or unfavorable feeling with which
employees view their work.
3. According to Vroom
The positive orientation of an individual towards all aspects of the work
situation.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The success of the ever business organization may be based on the
cooperation of employees. A dissatisfied worker will not work effectively. Then the
company may go to loss. So the employer should analyse whether the worker is
satisfied or not. The feeling of workers would be positive or negative depending upon
the worker is satisfied or not. Job satisfaction is very important in case of production-
oriented employees, because satisfied employees produce better quality product

In the context ,as study regarding the level of satisfaction of employees of the
“NAGARJUNA HEARBAL CONCENTRATES LTD” is mainly focused on
evaluating the excepted to the employees. Both the employees and employees are
expected to excepted to benefit form the study as it will throw more light into the
extent of satisfaction of the employees and also about the different factors affecting
job satisfaction.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The study is undertaken with the following objectives.
General
1) To study about the job satisfaction in
“NAGARJUNA HEARBAL CONCENTRATES LTD”
Specific
1) To identity the main components of job satisfaction of the employees.
2) To measure and evaluate the level of satisfaction employees, both
administrative and operative.
3) To identity the problem faced by the employees of the
“NAGARJUNA HEARBAL CONCENTRATES LTD”
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The varies determine of job satisfaction are:-
a) People want to self – actualization
b) People who do obtain job satisfaction reach psychological maturity
c) Those who fail to be satisfied in the job frustrated
d) Lack of challenging work leads to low mental health
e) Lack of job satisfaction leads to lower productivity and a wealthy society.
SIGNIFICANCE OF JOB SATISFACTION
High job satisfaction may lead to improved productivity, increased
turnover, improved attendance, reduced accidents ,less job stress and lower
unionization.
1. Improved productivity
The relationship between satisfaction and productively is not definitely
established. However, job satisfaction in the long run leads to increased
productivity.
2. Increased turnover
The employer does whatever possible to minimize turn over making the
employees feel satisfied on their job, being one such.
3. Improved attendance
The degree to which people feel that their jobs are important has a
moderating influence on their absent. Employees who feel that work is
important tend to clock in regular attendance.
4. Reduced Accidents.
Poor Safety practice have a negative consequence of low satisfaction
level. When people are discouraged about their jobs, company and
supervisors, they are more liable to experience accidents.
5. Job Stress
Job stress in the body response to any job related threatens to disturb the
persons equilibrium. Choronic job dissatisfaction is a powerful source of
job stress.
6. Unionization
It is proved that job dissatisfaction is a major cause for unionization.
Dissatisfaction with wages, job securities fringe benefits, chance for
promotion and treatment by supervisors are reasons that make employees
join unions.
RESEARCH METHODOLGY
There are different methodologies in the research process. Inferring to
periodicals, books, records and manuals has been collected further information.
Analysis of data has been done systematically after the discussion on the
existing conditions in the organization and pointed out the reason. Solutions and
suggestions were marked properly based on the analysis and interpretation.
SAMPLING PROCEDURE
A Sample of 50 employees at random was interviewed from all the levels of
employees and were asked to fill the questionnaire to indicate their satisfaction towards
their work.
SOURCE OF DATA
The data required for the study was collected from 2 sources.
1. Primary Data : The primary data was obtained from the employees
questionnaire and by mutual discussion. The double raised by the respondents
were clarified on the sport to get perfect answer from the respondent.
2. Secondary data : Secondary data sources were publications, journal,
magazines and company profiles, internet etc.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
1. The study was conducted only of the Thodupuzha Division which is one of the
five treatment Division of the company
2. The number of respondent are limited to 50. So finding may change if survey is
conducted among all respondents.
3. The risk of respondents who may give false answer could not be avoided.
