Why monitor your power system?
Examining and changing the way you use power will save money — sometimes a lot of money.
Savings can be found in the form of direct utility expenses, equipment, maintenance, and
downtime reduction.
Metering your equipment to collect data is a critical first step to achieve these savings. However,
without a software tool to help interpret the information, your overall savings potential is limited.
MANAGEMENT
PowerLogic® systems give management access to high-level information so effective
decisions can be made concerning utility cost allocation, capital equipment purchases, and
building improvements.
FACILITY OPERATIONS
Operations personnel can keep systems running before problems occur, using graphical
data and early alarm notifications from PowerLogic systems.
ENGINEERING
Engineering needs detailed electrical and mechanical information to properly manage
electrical and mechanical systems. PowerLogic systems delivers that information to assure
stability, make design decisions, and conduct capacity planning studies.
Icebergs.
Typically, we think of them as huge peaks rising above the water. In reality, the majority
of an iceberg is actually under the water, out of view. Utility savings at most facilities
can be thought of in much the same way.
Think of your utility bills as being the peak, easy to see every month. By simply
installing a PowerLogic® power monitoring system, you can realize a 2-4% savings—
but that’s just the “tip of the iceberg” in terms of your potential savings.
PowerLogic systems give you the power to achieve this kind of savings, resulting in a
quick return on your investment. At Schneider Electric, we pride ourselves on reliable
Square D® products, innovative systems, expert engineering services, and our ability
to provide single-source power management solutions. It’s not just a concept to us, it’s
a legacy and a promise — for companies that seek an edge in productivity.

Three dimensions of energy and power management savings
Reduce Energy Costs
• Access automatic meter reading from revenue,
piped utility pulses and sub-metering
• Verify and reconcile utility bills to catch errors
• Reveal energy inefficiencies and waste
• Allocate or sub-bill energy costs
• Optimize procurement through forecasting, load
aggregation and rate analysis
• Implement power factor correction, lighting
control, and fact-based reduction strategies
• Reduce demand through load scheduling, load
control or generator control
• Respond to utility curtailment signals
• Make smart energy efficiency decisions by
combining your experience with ours for Total
Energy Control strategies that result in an
actionable energy plan with quick payback

Monitor equipment to
get the Most out of
your assets
IEEE states that equipment can be damaged when RMS plots can be used to compare manufacturer ratings
THD exceeds 8%. From the waveform summary infor- to RMS value of the event. If equipment drops out below
mation, it shows the THD value very near the IEEE limit. rating, then it points to an equipment problem.
Upon installation, the system contains over 50 real time tables, analog meters and barcharts, an
alarm log with waveform links, pre-engineered power quality and utility cost reports, and more.
You can also tailor this power management software to meet your own needs, with customized
screens, trends and reports that are automatically incorporated into the tabbed navigational
user interface.
• Real time data and report sharing with secure access to information
• Distributed monitoring and automatic data collection to eliminate nuisance data gaps
• Open system architecture with industry standard protocols and a plethora of intelligent
monitoring devices

Alarms Historical System
Advanced Reports
Advanced reports can be created via an easy
wizard-driven interface. No database experi-
ence or training is necessary. Reports include
pre-defined energy efficiency, reports by shift,
per circuit, multiple locations, time of use and
summarized cost analysis. Reports output is
available in standard formats such as PDF,
Word, Excel, Crystal Reports and HTML.
Activity Log
Activity is recorded to track the events of your
PowerLogic system. The log can be sorted by
field to aid troubleshooting.
Alarms
In addition to notification via the software interface or attached
web browsers, analog and digital alarm conditions can be sent to
e-mail, mobile phones, or pagers. Alarm setup supports up to ten
severity levels, with the option to apply password protection for
acknowledgment of different alarm levels.

Engineering
The PowerLogic® system gives you the analysis tools and reports to
help you determine the cause and effect. Using powerful event capture
information, you can determine:
• If a power quality problem is on the utility supply or plant load side
• Whether vendors have provided equipment that withstands
specified ratings
• The existence of transients, which, due to their accumulative effect,
can lead to sensitive electronic equipment damage
