Telephone Call
for Reduction Time waste of Operation Room

Abstract

Background : The orthopedic Out – Patients who came to utilized minor


operation which the Operation Room at Humanized Hospital, Mankind
Society Province have made an appointment in advanced . The Out-Patients
Who broke an appointment would be effected in managing the Operation
Room to substitute the major operation . The researcher was interested in this
phenomenon : Research question : What was the problems of minor operation
orthopedic Out-Patients who came to utilized the services of Humanized
Hospital, Mankind Society Province. Why they broke the appointment which
they have made with the hospital? And how to communicate with minor
operation orthopedic Out-Patients who have made the appointment in advance
two days and thirty minutes before the operation started.

Objective : To study the problems and causes why minor operation orthopedic
Out-patients broke the Appointment, and rate of time waste of the operation
room

Research Design : This is a survey research as a Routine to Research/R2R + 2D

Location : Humanized Hospital, Mankind Society Province,


Thailand

Methods : Population were the minor operation orthopedic Out-Patients


Who broke the appointment in six months during November 2552 to April
2553. The instruments were the interview schedule and OPD (Out-Patient -
Department ) cards which the researcher have been made for data collections.
Descriptive statistics percentage were used for data analysis to describe the
characteristic of the population .

Results of the Study : The problems of the minor operation orthopedic Out-
Patients of Humanized Hospital, Mankind Society Province: Majority were
female (83.3% n=5),minority were male (16.7% n=1). Age duration 30-61 years
old were working period. The residents of the minor operation orthopedic Out-
Patients located in Muang district and other districts around Muang district.
Majority of their profession were workers such as : shop sellers and musicians.
Major case of the operation was carpal tunnel syndrome. Majority causes why
they broke the appointment was the sickness getting better. If we did not use
telephone call six cases we would wasted time 3.6 % . The telephone call in
advance Two days and thirty minutes could reduced 3.6% for waiting time
waste of orthopedic minor operation Out-Patients.
Conclusion and recommendation : Follow up the orthopedic minor operation
Out-Patients by visiting the patients in advance thirty minutes could reduced,
the problem of broken the appointment who sickness were getting better. And
the Operation Room would not wasted time for waiting orthopedic minor
operation Out – Patients.
