Incompetence is the bane of a lot of individuals & institutions. Incompetent businesses, incompetent
governments, incompetent husbands/wives, incompetent leaders, incompetent doctors, incompetent
pastors, incompetent students… etc…

Competence is indispensable in order for you to fulfill your destiny. The fact that God has a great future
planned for you is no guarantee that you will fulfill His plan for your life. I have seen a lot of people with huge
potential rot due to incompetence. I have seen nations with mammoth sized resources and potential decay due
to incompetence.

The cost of incompetence is great. It does not only affect the concerned individual or institution, it’s effect on
it’s stake-holders can be devastating. I know people that are bearing life-long scars because of the
incompetence of another. I can give loads and loads of examples.

The question I ask myself and want to ask you is this: What are you going to do about your
incompetence? …as a wife/husband, student, pastor, doctor, leader, what are you going to do about your
incompetence?

Competence = Skill + Execution

Prov.22:29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before
mean men.
For me to be competent; I must be skillful (in my business) and I must be disciplined (diligent) to follow
through… execution. Skill without proper execution will lead to mediocrity. Execution without proper skill will
lead to frustration.
To improve my Competence, I must improve my Skills (take that course, go for that training, attend that
seminar, read that book, learn from that mentor,…) and I must improve my Execution (get rid of
procrastination, become accountable about that goal, submit to mentorship & discipline).

So, what are you going to do about your incompetence?

It doesn’t get any more complicated than this Pastor Femi. Simple, clear and precise! There’s nothing else to say in this
matter.
It hit me so hard because I really want to be the best at who I am and what I do but the gospel truth is that it is just a wish so
far. I try but not sufficient to hit the mark. And I keep telling myself that I’m trying (but that’s in response to that lil’ voice
inside of me urging me to do just a little more; to do the extra).
I guess there’s no short cut to this thing sha. God please deliver me from mediocrity!

Just a quick correction; I meant to say that it doesn’t get any EASIER(not complicated) than this

Amen Ifiok.
The challenge for all of us is to be better than we are.

A key reason we remain incompetent is that we’re not motivated enough. As Ezenwa indicated, we all know what we need to
do, that we need to up our game, fulfil our potential etc. But too few of us are like the virtuous woman who “perceives that her
merchandise is good”, stirring her up to burn the midnight oil (Prov 31:18). Solomon too had a good appreciation of the
awesome-ness of his new role as king over a “great people” (1 King 3:8-9), leading him to seek the wisdom required.
I can get rid of incompetence in my life when I understand how key my destiny is to my generation, how special I am to God
and how there can never be another me.
