MODELLING OF 2D CONCRETE CYLINDER

WITHOUT FRP WRAPPING IN STRAND7 TO OBTAIN TIME

TO STABILIZE OF CONCRETE CYLINDER

The procedure to develop the 2D STRAND7 model used the steps as presented below. The result
of modeling which is time of temperature to stabilize can be seen in appendix A.1.

A. Definite Geometry and Element Type

1) Select New from the File menu

2) Set to SI but set temperature to C

3) Click Ok.

4) Select Node from Create menu

5) Fill the Node dialog box with

Node 1, X=0.00, Y=0.00, Z=0.00

6) Click OK

7) Repeat step 4 to 6 to create the second node and change the value in the Node
dialog box with

X=0.0.5, Y=0.00, Z=0.00

8) Press F3 to scale the two nodes

Then both nodes are appear as picture below

9) Select Element from Create menu

From Connection dialog box, choose beam 2 in the type box and choose 1 in
property box. Click the first node once and then click the second node once to
create a beam. After creating the beam, close the connection dialog box.

10) Select Extrude By Increments from Tools menu to access extrude by increment
dialog box, then edit Increment Parameters by entering X=0.00, Y=0.2, Z=0.00.
After that click the target button and choose Quad4 by clicking Quad4 box. Next
step is to click parameter button and enter ‘1’ in the repeat box. Next is to click the
beam then click Apply. Finally is to close the dialog box and to press F3 to scale
the picture. The picture resulted is presented below.

11) Select beam and delete.

12) Select subdivide from Tools menu to access subdivide dialog box, then edit
division parameter by entering ‘5’ in box A, ‘10’ in box B, and targets parameter
by choose Quad4 for plate box. Next step is to click the plate and click Apply, then
close the dialog box. The picture resulted is presented below.

B. Define Restrain Condition

1) Select node from Attributes menu to access node attributes dialog box. Then click
on Select by region toolbar to choose nodes in order to apply the restraint. Click at
the top left edge node and then click the bottom left edge node to choose these
entire nodes along the left side of the plate, then click the Apply button on the
Select by region dialog box. Next is to click Y sym button on node attribute dialog
box and then click Apply. The picture resulted is presented below.

C. Define Material Properties

2) Select plate from Property menu to access plate element properties dialog box. To
avoid the unused property of beam in which automatically created when the beam
was created in beginning step, click the beam button and then click delete property
toolbars and click Ok. Now back to plate property by clicking plate property
button. In the Type Parameters, click asymmetric, then click structural button and
enter ‘2400’ in density box. Next is to click Heat Transfer button and enter ‘880’ in
specific heat box and ‘1.37’ in conductivity box, and then click Close.

D. Define Loading Condition

13) Select Plate, Convection, and then Coefficient from Attributes menu to access Plate
Attribute dialog box. To fill the coefficient of convection on the surface of plate,
click Select by Region toolbars and then click on top left edge node of top surface
and then continue to top right edge node of top surface to choose these entire node
along the top plate and to click Apply on the Select by Region dialog box. These

steps also applied to entire node on the right side and bottom plate. After all nodes
on top, bottom, and right sides of plate have been chosen, then enter 28 in
Coefficient Convection Value on Plate Attribute dialog box and then click Apply.
The picture resulted is presented below.

14) Use similar procedure as in step 15 to apply the temperature on top, bottom, and
right side of plate. Enter ’70’ in Convection Ambient box in Plate Attribute dialog
box and then click Apply. The picture resulted is presented below.

3) Select load and freedom case from Global menu to access Load and Freedom Case
dialog box. Click Primary Load Case button and enter ‘20’ on Reference/ Initial
Temperature box and then click Ok. The screen will present the following window.

E. Solve The Model

4) Select Transient Heat in Solver menu to access Transient Heat Analysis dialog box.
Click the Timestep button and enter ‘900’ in Step Column, ‘30’ in Timestep
column, and ‘1’ in Save Every column, then click Ok to return to Transient Heat
Analysis dialog box. Click Solve button to execute the model.

F. Post Process

5) Select Open Results File from Results menu in order to access available result files,
and then click Open.

15) Select Results Setting from Results menu to access to Element results display
dialog box. Click Contour in Draw as Parameter and click Temperature in quantify
parameters and then click Ok. The picture resulted is presented below.

16) Select graph from Results Menu to access XY plot dialog box. After that click New
Graph button and edit graph name by entering ‘temperature stabilize at center of
cylinder’ and then click Vs Results Case in graph type parameters and click Ok.
Next, click Temperature under quantity parameter, click the Center Node of the left

side of plate to fill node box in position parameter and then click Ok. The picture
resulted is presented below.
