Catherine MacPhail

Write about the good value that you like about the character that you have chosen.

I read the novel “Catch Us If You Can” by Catherine MacPhail. I choose Rory as the
character, who has a good value.

Rory is 11 years old boy. He is abandoned by his father since he was a young kid.
He stays with his Grandfather, Granda. At the age of 11, he has to take care of
himself and his forgetful Granda. He goes to a Primary schools and he has some
kind friends there.

The value that I admire from Rory is, he is such a responsible person. He is
responsible enough to babysit his Granda at a very young age. He takes care of
Granda’s routines life without even thinking of himself. Even, his teacher could not
believe that Rory can be Granda’s guardian.

When, Granda is sent to the Hospital, and sadly they are apart. Rory has to be in a
special school just for a kid. As a responsible grandchild, Rory tries at his very best
to be with Granda. With the help of strangers cum friends he manages to escape
with Granda.

During his and Granda’s journey as fugitives, Rory shows an outstanding

responsibility of his Granda’s health condition emotionally and physically. He plays
a role as a decision maker and friend to Granda in order to make their journey as
“happy as possible”

I really admire the responsible Rory because as a person or as a child of a family, I

must be as responsible as Rory when taking care of members of my family. I’ll
definitely will help my family whether they are indeed or not. I’ll study hard and get
a better result in my SPM , so that I can pay back , all the sacrifices that family
makes for me.

Finally, Rory, a small boy challenges everyone to catch them if they can, in order to
be together with his special Granda..What a responsible superhero!
