WebSphere Application Server v6.1 setup

guide
Part 1 - Install the Application Server
This section will run the installation wizard for WebSphere Application Server.

1. Make sure that you are logged in as the wasadmin user. If you are not, log off and log
back on as the user wasadmin.

Note: This user was created during the DB2 installation in preparing for the class. It
is not required in a normal installation to use a database administrative ID but has
been done to make the setup of the lab environment easier.

WebSphere requires certain user rights of the ID that will run the Application
Server. The DB2 installation can automatically create an administrative ID and
assign the appropriate rights. For the WebSphere installation the user ID and rights
must be assigned before running the installation.

Be sure to check the platform specific installation instructions before installing

WebSphere on your own machines. The users, groups, and rights assignments will
be detailed there. This lab should not be used as the only resource in preparing for
your WebSphere installation.

The required user rights on a Windows machine are: “Act as part of the operating
system” and “Log on as a service”.

2. If possible, disable any anti-virus or script-blocking software that may interfere with
the installation.

3. Copy the WebSphere Application Server v6.1 CD and the WebSphere v6.1
Supplement CD directly to C:\Software. The system will alert you that the folder

created with two subfolders; WAS and SUPPLEMENT.
