It is important that ALL students in grades K-5 come to school everyday on time during this
statewide test. Please do not schedule any trips or doctor appointments on these days.
Here are a few tips on how you can Help Your Child Do Better On Tests
1. Review the subject matter together for up coming tests.
2. Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest before every test.
3. Serve your child a light, healthy breakfast on test day.
4. Have your child dress comfortably and arrive at school on time.
5. Send your child off to school with words of praise and support.
6. Suggest that your child do deep breathing exercises to relax before
the test begins.
7. Tell your child to follow directions carefully, and ask questions if
something is not clear.
8. Advise your child to do the easiest parts of the test first, then the rest.
9. Remind your child to check over answers before turning in the test.
10. Encourage wanting to do well, but stress that one test won’t measure all your
child can do.
REMEMBER
Children who love learning are more likely to do better on tests.
Instill a positive attitude about school.

Students of the Third Quarter
In 1975 Congress mandated all High Schools to implement a program called Offer Versus
Serve (OVS). This implementation is to reduce food waste and program costs while still
allowing the consumption of a wide variety of nutritious foods. Upon success, they later
passed laws to include the Middle and Elementary Schools. OVS allowed students to choose
a minimum of 3 out of 5 food items offered. The choices offered are entrée, fruit, vegetable,
grains (bread or rice) and milk.
To keep in line with increasing costs of food, supplies and fuel, School Food Service Branch
(SFSB) is requiring all schools to implement OVS by the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
Likelike Elementary will begin OVS on May 2, 2011. It will involve grades 4 and 5 only at
this time. Students may select a minimum of 3 items out of 5 through the serving line daily.
The cost of the lunch will remain the same, regardless of how many items the students
chooses. We thank you for your understand as we go through this change. If you have any
questions, please feel free to call the school at 832-3370.
