HUMAN HEALTH HAZARDS - ACUTE:


INHALATION:
May cause irritation of mucous membranes.
SKIN CONTACT:
Can cause mild irritation.

Can cause mild irritation.
INGESTION:
May cause mucosal damage.
HUMAN HEALTH HAZARDS - CHRONIC:
Chronic exposure to sulfites may cause symptoms of upper respiratory disease and affect sense of taste and
smell.
Sulfites can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL HAZARDS:
Contact with acids liberates toxic gas.

4. FIRST-AID MEASURES

INHALATION:
Remove to fresh air, rest, treat symptomatically. Obtain medical attention.
SKIN CONTACT:
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash off affected area immediately with plenty of water. If skin irritation
persists, obtain medical attention.
EYE CONTACT:
Immediately gently irrigate with clean water for at least 15 minutes. Move eyeball and keep eyelids wide open
and apart whilst irrigating. Obtain medical attention.
INGESTION:
Do not induce vomiting without medical advice. If conscious washout mouth and give one pint of water to drink.
Obtain medical attention.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:
Use extinguishing media appropriate for surrounding fire.
FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD
Oxides of sulphur, Oxides of nitrogen, Oxides of carbon.
SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FIRE FIGHTING:
In case of fire, wear a full face positive-pressure self contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS:
Do not breathe vapour. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with
plenty of water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water.
Ensure adequate ventilation. Use personal protective equipment recommended in Section 8.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS:
Do not allow to enter sewers or water courses. If spillage does enter sewers or water courses, immediately
inform the appropriate water authorities.
METHODS FOR CLEANING UP:
Small spills: Soak up with inert absorbent material. Clean up promptly by scoop or vacuum. Large spills: Dam
up. Reclaim into recovery or salvage drums.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING:
Do not breathe vapour. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid generating aerosols and mists. Avoid
breathing vapors from headspace of newly opened containers. Use with adequate ventilation.
STORAGE CONDITIONS:
Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Store separately from acids. Storage for more
than two years is not recommended.

An approved respirator must be worn if the occupational exposure limit is likely to be exceeded.

PVC gloves.
SKIN PROTECTION:
Standard protective clothing.
EYE PROTECTION:
Chemical splash goggles.
HYGIENE RECOMMENDATIONS:
Keep an eye wash fountain available. Keep a safety shower available. Wash hands during breaks and at end
of the shift. If clothing is contaminated, remove clothing and thoroughly wash the affected area. Launder
contaminated clothing before reuse.
