MOBILE-WALLET

Aim: To make payment through mobile phone at the shopping malls, book cinemas,
railway tickets, as well as many other payments.

Introduction:
MONEY is playing its vital role in variety of business transactions. If we briefly
look into the history, money was in metallic coins form; now it has been transformed
into many forms such as currency bills. In the name of modernization this physical
money is turned into virtual money. The first step towards this virtualization was the
introduction of credit cards. Now people find it easier to use credit cards than
currency bills as chances of loosing it or getting stolen are increasing. Instead of
carrying bundle of bills carrying a card seemed much easier and safer.
In advancement to the thing mentioned above now it is possible to make all
payments through “cell phones” which was once dream of many people. Many
researches took place in the way and competition among service providers lead to
development of this wonderful application what we term it now as MOBILE WALLET.
There is an increasing level of activity in areas relating to what people have
termed as the “mobile wallet”. This includes technology, applications and services that
enable the delivery of payments, banking, monetary transfers, ticketing and
information transfer and that are served via the mobile phone. There is much
diversity of approaches being taken. This diversity is in the form of various
applications, partnerships and technologies and in the way these are being tailored to
best fit the required means in each country.
A mobile wallet allows a person to exchange physical cash for virtual money,
which is stored on the network and is accessed through mobile phones. This virtual
money can then be used to purchase or pay for various goods and services at specific
merchants who accept this form of virtual mobile money.
While the exact mode of operation is yet to be fixed by service providers and
merchant organizations, available technologies enable such transactions to happen
through SMS, Bluetooth, through a built-in bar code reader application in phones or
even through direct communication between the phone and a card reader at the
merchant organization.
At the user end, the operation will be pretty simple. All that a mobile user
would need to do is pay cash to the mobile wallet provider to load his/her phone with
credit and then use the virtual money for mobile phone top-up, bill payments, buying
things at shops that accept mobile payments or even to buy tickets. What should
cheer millions of Indian mobile owners is the fact that the system does not
necessarily require high-end smart phones.
All the mobile transactions in this application require several layers of
encryption and passwords; hence money in a mobile wallet would be safer than its
physical equivalent. It can be easily transferred through the service provider to
another handset after the wallet owner’s identity is established the question of losing
money does not arise.

Modules:

Transaction services such as payment or ticketing, but also security-sensitive

services such as user identification or facility access control are increasingly executed
in electronic format. With the concept of the SIM-based mobile wallet, the project
presents an integrative approach to electronic transaction services, combining the
user experience of handling plastic cards with the convenience and security of mobile
telecommunication.

In M-Wallet the user register’s himself through web and gets his unique
customer id and password. This user id and password is used to access M-Wallet
application in mobile. After providing his cust- id and password into application he has
the option of purchase and transfer. On selecting purchase he has to give the product
id of the product which he wants to buy and the cost of the product. The request is
sent to the server which has the database containing information about the customer,
shop and the products. After authenticating, the transaction is performed and an
acknowledgement is sent to the customer and the shop.

On selecting transfer option he can provide the id of the person to whom the
amount is to be transferred, owner id, password and the amount to be transferred to
the other id. The request is sent to the server, only after the authentication the
transaction is performed.
In case if the cell is lost the customer goes to the web page of service provider,
answer’s a series of questions with user id and password and alternate no. After
verification the amount is transferred from his old no. to new no.
For encryption of the password and user id we use SHA algorithm.
The project has many kinds of advantages like, the next generation of SIM
cards, the UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) acts as a secure element being
capable of hosting security-sensitive data and application components, card provision
can securely be executed over the air,the mobile phone accommodates multiple
transmission technologies such as UMTS and NFC, thus supporting card application for
both proximity and remote service access, if mobile lost service provider transfers the
application to another no. after the wallet owner’s identity is established, there is no
need of carrying cash or plastic cards as the mobile will act as Wallet.
Besides the several advantages this application also has few disadvantages
such as, the cell used has to be GPRS enabled, the unique IP address of the server
has to be known, transfer of amount is done only between people who have M-Wallet
application, transaction can be done only upto 5K.
Finally concluding this application is very much helpful in many types of bill
payment through cell phones. This application involves the latest technologies like
GPRS, network security, GSM technologies and databases that makes it an efficient
application. The user will exchange the virtual money with the physical money. This
will be credited in users account and stored over the network. The user will register
himself to particular server in some merchants shop. Now he can purchase things and
pay the bill from his cell phone by just specifying the product id and amount.
This application can be embedded into SIM card itself and controlled by GSM
service provider. If it’s done so will definitely bring revolution in mobile phone
technology and also helps in moving one step ahead in technology and making the
society more civilized and modern.
