MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the first edition of our as yet
to be named school newspaper.
Newspapers have a very long history. In
America the first newspaper appeared in
Boston in 1690. Published without
authority, it was immediately
suppressed, its publisher arrested, and all
copies were destroyed. Unlike that
newspaper, we hope this one will be
widely read and celebrated.
After that first newspaper in 1690, the
numbers of newspapers in North
America grew rapidly. The 1850
census catalogued 2,526 titles. An
astounding 11,314 different papers
were recorded in the 1880 census. By
2007 there were 6580 daily
newspapers in the world selling 395
million copies a day.
A newspaper is a wonderful way to
discuss and debate ideas and a source

The month of February is a
month of new beginnings. Most
would say that this would be
January-as it is the first month
of the New Year–but in January
last year’s people are jumping
around, celebrating the New
Year, and getting used to
writing a new number on paper.
In February, however, people
are beginning to return to their
normal lives, and it is then that
the events of the year begin to
occur. February is also the
month of this author’s birthday.
To sum it all up, February is the
first real month. February is the
start of a legend.

Tiffany
The month ofrThe February, the
shortest month, but really we had a
lot going on. We started off this
month with Activity Day. There
were so many activities to
participate in,J the AGO, skating,
arts, etc. All put together by the
great teachers of Winchester. The
sports began with the Grade 7
girls’ volleyball then kicked off
with the Grade 8 volleyball
tournaments and a ritual of boys’
Basketball. Several classes also
went skating in the month of
February. For many it’s a first and
for others it’s so very fun to be on
the ice again. The school had also
organized a great mural project.
The weeks were quiet; the grade
eights went to the Science Center

Congratulations to the boys on
the senior boys’ basketball team
for their excellent job in the
conference finals. The scores
were really close. They even
had a lead in the game. They
faced a very tough team and the
score was 45-40.Also
congratulations to girls on the
grade 7 and grade 8 senior girls’
volleyball team on their great
job. They both won a few games
and lost a few games but over all
they had had a terrific season
and tried their very best. A very

coaches, Mr. Bishop, Mr. Liu,
and Mr. Smith.
