This week was our last week for
Guided Reading and RAP Folders!
We will begin our end of the year
assessments during our Literacy
Block. Please continue to have your
child read every night for 20-30
minutes.
Writing
We are still going on our adventures with
Flat Stanley during our writing time! We
read a new book called, Flat Stanely’s
Worldwide Adventures: The Amazing
Mexican Secret. We learned lots of
interesting facts about Mexico! We even
traveled to Mexico City via Google Earth!
Be sure to ask your child something they
learned about each place we visited with
Flat Stanley…South Dakota, Egypt,
Nairobi, Japan, Canada and Mexico!

We continue to work on essential
Math skills through our Drops in
the Bucket and practice our math
facts through our “timed tests”.
We are working hard to master
skills which will help us in 2nd
grade!!! We are also working on

Walkathon
***Next week is the last
We will be having our Walkathon on
Tuesday, May 10th! The first graders
week for Library check
will be walking at 8:45-9:30. Make out! All books are due back
sure your student wears his/her May 13th!!! ***

DENVER ZOO, MAY 3rd!
 Please meet in your child’s classroom
prior to driving down to Denver to
meet your group and get instructions!
You can also figure out a carpool if
you haven’t already talked to other
parents!
***IMPORTANT!***
Many of you have been asking about
taking siblings to the zoo with us! We
contacted the District Office
regarding the policy for siblings
attending school field trips. It states
that if you plan on attending the field
trip as a chaperone, that you may not
bring siblings along. Therefore, if
your are planning on attending the
field trip to the zoo as a chaperone,
we are asking that you DO NOT bring
other children along. If you have
signed up to chaperone and were
planning on bringing a sibling, please
contact us immediately and we will
figure something out. If you have
any questions regarding this, please
contact us. Thanks so much for
understanding!
PUBLIC WORKS DAY
TUESDAY, MAY 10TH
Remember to return permission slips!
We still need parent helpers so we are able to go
on this field trip! We will leave at 9:45 following
our Walkathon and will return to school at 1:00.
It is a fun day and we will have a picnic at
fairgrounds park! We hope you can join us!!!
Reading
Celebration!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
Don’t forget to have your child bring a
book that he/she can read fluently
each week on his/her designated day.
Next week our reading celebration
time will be used to present our Flat
Stanley projects! Be sure to have your
child practice what they want to tell
the class about their project. The
rubric we included had a piece on the
presentation part of the project!

DON’T FORGET THAT YOUR FLAT
STANLEY PROJECTS ARE DUE
 MAY 2nd! That is this Monday!!! We
have been talking with the kids about
these projects every day! We can’t
wait to see the great ideas and work
they come up with! These projects will
be displayed at our upcoming
MUSEUM NIGHT on MAY 6th! Be
sure to follow the rubric and support
your child as they demontrate all that
they have learned through our travels
with FLAT STANLEY!

Both first grade classes are in need
of some more treasures for our
treasure box!!! Any donations would be
greatly appreciated!!!
KIDTV!!!
Tune into KIDTV on the District
Website if you haven’t had a chance
to watch it yet! The first graders did
such a fabulous job!
Science
We continue to watch our mealworms and
butterflies as they move through the
different stages of life! We are getting
more beetles everyday! Our catepillars
have moved into the pupa stage and are in
their cacoons! We are anxiously awaiting
their change into beautiful butterflies!!!
Parent Helpers

to all of our wonderful parent helpers!
You have been more help to our first
graders than you will ever know! This was
our last week for those of you that come
in to work with students! Enjoy your now
“free time” before summer starts!!!
APRIL HOMEWORK
April Homework is due May 3rd!!!
This will be our final monthly homework of
the year so let’s have 100% of our class turn
it in so we can all eat in the classroom
together. If you have misplaced your
homework sheet, please send a note letting us
know that your child has been reading every
night!!!
