Over the past 50 years, many of the countries we lent them to returned
them to America to be bought and sold by firearms collectors. This is
nothing new.

hundreds of thousands of gun owners deprived of the opportunity to own
an integral part of American history.

The State Department’s outrageous claims are nothing more than a

thinly veiled ploy to distract from the real issue: President Obama’s deep
seated hatred for gun rights. While his gun-grabbing base is giddy with
praise at this back-door gun ban, law-abiding citizens across the United
States are crying foul.

Let me be clear: at no time in U.S. history has the ownership of this

firearm – or any part of this firearm -- been illegal, restricted or

expensive metals comprises just 5 percent of the ammunition
market in the United States. Banning traditional
ammunition, based on emotion rather than science, will
result in skyrocketing prices for ammunition.

sensitive hunters and target shooters as well as fishermen
will be priced out of their sport, and funding for wildlife and
habitat conservation will dry up.

the status of the species in Wisconsin and replaces an original Marten

“The goal of this plan is to ensure that American martens remain a viable
member of Wisconsin’s natural heritage today and for generations to
come,” says Jim Woodford, a conservation biologist with the Department
of Natural Resources in Rhinelander.
American martens have cultural significance to the Ojibwe Indians of
Wisconsin. In addition they are one of the best indicator species for a
contiguous, diverse, and healthy northern forest ecosystem.
In states and provinces where American martens are harvested, marten
furs received the second-highest in total dollar sales of all wild furbearers
sold in North America in 2010. In the western Great Lakes states,
martens are legally trapped in northern Minnesota and the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan.
Woodford says martens were found nearly statewide throughout the
forested regions of Wisconsin prior to European settlement, but their
numbers and distribution decreased due to unregulated trapping, habitat
loss, and subsequent wildfires. Even though marten trapping was
prohibited in 1921, martens were considered extirpated from the state by
1925.
Martens (a member of the weasel family) were listed as a state
endangered species, and a recovery plan was developed in 1986. Three
major reintroduction projects have occurred since then to reestablish
martens to the forests of northern Wisconsin.
Marten populations in Wisconsin are monitored annually by winter track
surveys in two core population areas. These surveys have not provided
definite population trends, in large part due to low density of animals.
Researchers estimated between 160 and 282 martens in one core area in
2005. A partnership between DNR, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National
Forest, and the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission are
currently completing a three year project that reintroduced 90 martens
into the other core area.
The draft management plan calls for, among other things, developing a
more accurate population estimate of martens in Wisconsin, maintaining
the established two marten protection areas, developing and
implementing forest management guidelines to protect and improve
marten habitat, and protecting and enhancing corridors for marten
movements between isolated groups of martens.

MADISON, WI --(Ammoland.com)- As residents and visitors to
Wisconsin gear up for camping, fishing, hiking, and other recreation
activities, state invasive species control specialists are asking them to
consider how these activities can inadvertently spread invasive plants
around the state.
“As we venture out to enjoy nature, everyone should be
mindful of how humans and our activities can play a critical
role in either increasing or slowing the spread of invasive
plants,” says Tom Boos, an invasive plant control specialist
with the Department of Natural Resources Division of
Forestry.
At this time of year, Boos says, garlic mustard is one of the most
recognizable invasive plants in woodland settings and it is easily spreads
by seed.
“Simply scraping mud off your boots or shoes before and
after spending time in garlic-mustard infested areas and
removing any seeds stuck to clothing can dramatically reduce
the risk of spreading this and other invasive plants to new
areas,” Boos says.
After camping, people should shake out and brush off equipment to
avoid spreading invasive species to the next spot they set up camp. When
fishing excursions come to an end, anglers should never dump worms or
other bait in the water or out “in nature.”

“It is best to dispose of unused worms in the trash to avoid
introducing worms into a nearby forest where they greatly
harm the forest,” Boos says. “And remember to always
remove any aquatic plants from boats and trailers and to
drain all water before leaving a boat landing to avoid
spreading aquatic invasive species or fish diseases.”
People take the time to visit parks and other wild areas because of their
beauty and biodiversity, Boos notes, so taking these easy steps can help
protect those valuable natural resources.
Regardless of the type of recreation activities people are participating in,
there are simple actions they can take to minimize the spread of invasive
species.

Med Cup 2011, held in Cheval-Blanc, France, May 13-15, 2011.
Michel finished behind World Champion, Eric Grauffel (France), while
third place went to Jorge Ballesteros of Spain.
“I had a blast competing in the TDL France Med Cup 2011
and I wish I could compete in Europe more often,”
commented Michel.
“The style of shooting in Europe is very physical and technical
versus what we do here in the states. I can’t wait to make it
back to Europe next month to compete in the Greek
Nationals. It is great preparation for me as I continue training
for the IPSC World Shoot XVI later this year.”
Michel will next be competing in the Double Tap Championship 2011,
held in Wichita Falls, TX June 3-5, 2011.

Katie Distler Eckman assumes leadership of national sportsmen’s
group.

of directors of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership elected
Katie Distler Eckman, a seasoned conservationist with significant
experience in the nonprofit and foundation realms, to chair the TRCP
board.

Partnership during a time that is so critical to conservation in
America,” said Distler Eckman.
“The strength of this organization, its deeply committed staff
and its dedicated board members position us to make major
gains in the name of natural resources conservation and

A consultant for foundations and nonprofits, Distler Eckman most
recently served as executive director of the Turner Foundation, a
conservation foundation established by Ted Turner, where she oversaw
all aspects of the foundation’s giving and developed strategic funding
agendas that enhanced the foundation’s mission. Before joining Turner,
Katie worked for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, directing
programmatic and financial management of a $35 million conservation
grant portfolio. An avid outdoorswoman with a passion for fly fishing,
she lives in Winston-Salem, N.C., with her husband and two young
children.
Distler Eckman takes the reins as TRCP board chair from longtime board
member Jim Martin, a biologist and the former chief of fisheries for the
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife who currently is conservation
director of the Berkley Conservation Institute.
“In taking on leadership of the TRCP board, Katie Distler
Eckman brings an exciting new energy to this organization
and our conservation policy work,” said Martin. “Katie’s
knowledge of conservation issues and experience with the
nonprofit and foundation communities, combined with her
love for the outdoors, make her an outstanding guide as we
navigate the choppy waters of natural resources
policymaking.”
“Distler Eckman’s strategic approach to conservation funding
and natural resources conservation is unsurpassed,” said
TRCP President and CEO Whit Fosburgh, “and her
leadership will enhance TRCP’s ability to build the
partnerships and promote the policy decisions that ultimately
will assure a future for the outdoor legacy that lies at the

During its meeting, the TRCP board also voted to name TRCP co-
founder Dr. Rollin Sparrowe a board member emeritus. Sparrowe, a
former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist, is a past TRCP board
chair and has served the TRCP board since the group’s inception.

Anniversary of the legendary 1911 pistol and on May 14, 2011 Pro Ears
shooter Dave Sevigny again made practical pistol history.
Using a custom 1911-A1 in 45 ACP Dave competed against 341
competitors in what was the largest and most hotly contested match in
the history of the annual 1911 pistol tournament.
On the final day of the tournament in cold, wet conditions Sevigny
finished in the Top 5 in 8 of 14 stages including two stage wins en route
to a decisive high overall championship.

This impressive victory marks Sevigny’s 11th USPSA National
Championship making him only the second shooter in USPSA history to
win the Single Stack Nationals elusive overall title. Rob Leatham was the
2011 runner-up and had won all prior Single Stack Classic and National
championships from 1995-2010.

Keller Wins Super Senior Shooting Title at USPSA Single Stack

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. --(Ammoland.com)- Robert Keller of
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. worked his way back from a fourth place start
to win the Super Senior title at the 2011 Springfield Armory USPSA
Single Stack Nationals this weekend.
Keller, who was in fourth place after the first stage in the match, moved
to second then third before claiming the lead over Paul Clark Sr. of
Littleton, Colo. on stage four. Keller held the lead through the remaining
10 stages to win the title with a final score of 577.6446 points.

Finishing in second and just 7.8013 points out of first was Richard
Heinie of Quincy, Ill., the co-founder of the Single Stack Nationals now
in its 17th year of competition. Heinie finished with a final score of
569.8433.
Rounding out the top five were Clark in third with 548.8634, John
Amidon of North Syracuse, N.Y. in fourth with 532.1285 and Joel Parks
of Festus, Mo. in fifth with 468.6112 points.
“The Super Senior category is always a tough contest and to
win means overcoming serious competition from your fellow
shooters. Through 11 straight stages Robert had to keep the
match co-founder at bay, and that’s never and easy feat.
Congratulations to Robert on an outstanding match,” said
Michael Voigt, USPSA president.
Also claiming titles at this year’s championship were Dave Sevigny of
Smyrna, Ga. who won the overall title with 977.8292 points, and Sara
Dunivin of Phoenix, Ariz., who claimed the Women’s title with 683.7541.
The Junior title went to Austin Cisna of Metamora, Ill. who finished with
610.3718 while the Senior title went to Jon Huspek with 721.2450.
The Springfield Armory USPSA Single Stack Nationals were held this
past weekend in Barry, Ill. with over 350 top shooters from around the
country competing in the event.
