FIRST STEP TOWARD MUTUAL REALIZATION IS MUTUAL

UNDERSTANDING. Stephen Covey, in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, teaches that
in disagreeable situations, first try to understand the other party. In this article, the
author acknowledges the religious roots, and the value of religion (namely, emotional
anesthetic against the pain of death, and ideally, increased ethical behavior), of those
who oppose homosexuality. For those who oppose homosexuality, he also points that
20 quoted research studies indicate that homosexuality is genetically caused.
Furthermore, he points out the considerable negative consequences for the heterosexual
community of pressuring homosexuals to temporarily experiment with heterosexuality.
Lastly, he points out that using legislation to oppose homosexuality, when based on
religious belief, is a violation of freedom of religion, or the separation of church and state.

MALE HOMOSEXUALITY IS ALMOST-CERTAINLY GENETICALLY- OR

possible combinations of a homosexual siblings (identical twin (monozygote), fraternal
twin (dizygote), adopted twin (monozygote or dizygote not specified), non-twin bother of
twins-one-of-whom-is-homosexual, brother of a lesbian, brother of a male homosexual),
as well as C/T (computer tomography) scans of male homosexuals brains, and genetic
analysis of male homosexuals, all indicate that male homosexuals are genetically-

SINGLE MOTHERS WHO END UP SINGLE FOR LIFE, OR MARRYING LESS THAN
THEY DESERVE. When a male homosexual experiments with heterosexuality, after
marrying and having a child or children, and then realizes he doesn't want to continue,
what for him, is inferior sexual interaction, then negative consequences are inflicted on
his ex-wife and children. The woman is left a single mother, and as potential
companions evaluate her, she gets negative points from potential companions because
they have to raise someone else's child or children. Or a potential companion might
have the finances to participate in a 1- or 2-kid family, want 1 or 2 kids that are his, and
exclude her. She will be a single mother and alone for a while, if not for life, and at best,
will marry less than she deserved. Not hypothetical: Happened to Lori Atkinson, a
beautiful, engaging conversationalist, BYU graduate in English, from the author's
hometown ward (Mormon term for congregation). A study in sexually-conservative
religions like Mormonism and Catholicism where-homosexuals-are-pressured-to-
experiment-with-heterosexuality, would be useful data for policy formation: A poll of
women who married homosexuals-trying-heterosexuality - what percentage had a child
from a man who was really homosexual; what percentage remarried; what percentage
never remarried; what percentage remarried with a spouse less than they deserve; and
what percentage were infected with AIDS or a venereal disease from their really-
homosexual spouses. The book, Husbands Who Love Men, published by AMI
Publishers, Providence, Utah, © 1998, Aileen H. Atwood R.N., M.S.N., Ed.D. discusses
the topic of homosexuals pressured to be heterosexual, and the negative consequences.
2) MALE HOMOSEXUALS HAVE HIGHER RATES OF SEXUALLY-TRANSMITTED
DISEASES. In 2004, about 64% of reported early-stage syphilis infections occurred
among men who had sex with men. Considering that only about 4.5% of men are
homosexual, and they contract 64% of the syphilis cases, they have an infection rate
that is 37.7 times higher than the heterosexual community.2 Speaking as a member of
the heterosexual community, I don't want homosexuals pressured to mingle with the
heterosexual community. 3) FAMILIES HAVE TO EXCLUDE ABOUT 1-IN-27 KIDS OR
GRANDKIDS. Considering that research indicates that 4 to 5% of men are homosexual,
or an average of 4.5%; and that 2 to 4% of women are lesbians, or an average of 3%.
Using the approximation that 50% of people are men, the average rate of homosexuality
for both sexes is 3.75%, or about 1 out of 26.7 people. If you have 3 kids, they all marry
that's 6 people. If 2 of those couples have 4 kids, and the last couple has 3 kids, that's a
total of 17 people; and if all the grandkids get married, that's a total of 27 people.
Statistically, one of them is likely to be homosexual, and divorce leaving the other
spouse to be a single parent, and reducing the quality of their eventual lifetime
companion. Another view: If you have 5 kids, and they all have 5 kids, one of your kids
or grandkids will be homosexual - do you want to reject them?

were forbidden to eat pigs (swine). 3 They had the observe-and-conclude ability to
observe a higher death rate among pig eaters; although they lacked a microscope to be
aware of trichinosis. In modern times, we have discarded that archaic prohibition, and
enjoy ham, pork chops, and pork roast. We should still avoid bacon and sausage
because of the cholesterol. 2) The ancient Jews were forbidden to eat lobster and crab.4
They had the observe-and-conclude ability to see people die overnight from eating them.
We now know that if you boil them alive, they are safe to eat. [The cruelty of the practice
is indeed debatable.] 3) The ancient Jewish people stoned people for adultery - even
2,000 years ago, Jesus condemned the cruelty and excessiveness of that practice.5 4)
The Jews considered divorce to be unethical; but reluctantly accepted it as a necessary
practice.6 Most Americans, including many Catholics, no longer consider divorce to be
unethical.

HOMOSEXUALS AREN'T PEDOPHILES; NOR DO THEY WANT TO ESPOUSE

THEIR LIFESTYLE TO THE NEXT GENERATION. The author, Mitch Ring,
unfortunately encountered the fact of the rate-at-which-a-survivable-mutation-occurs-in-
viruses, and concluded that all life almost-certainly did mutate from one single-cell
organism. [Those fortunate enough to believe that death is not an end to life SHOULD
SKIP the footnote.]7 He was no longer fortunate enough to believe in creation-by-God,
God, and the core benefits of Christianity (Mormonism): 1) Death is not an end to life; 2)
marriage and families are eternal. He reluctantly converted from Christianity
(Mormonism) to Unitarian Universalism transplanting the Christian ethics, but not the
myths. Unitarian Universalists, on a congregation by congregation basis, openly accept
homosexuals, and homosexual couples. As a Unitarian Universalist, he has had after-
meeting conversations with 4 homosexual couples. They are not pedophiles. They do
not try to proselytize others to a homosexual lifestyle. Indeed at the South Valley

Considering the rate of survivable mutations, the time that life has been on Earth, and that God didn't get around to creating his
masterpiece and likeness for 3.495 billion years, the much-more-likely conclusion is that humankind is the end product of a series of fortunate-
for-us mutations.
When myths are used to hurt people, they need to be ignored. Socrates was made to drink hemlock juice because he didn't accept
Greek myths as fact. Judaeo-Christianity are just myths - less story and more ethics than Greek or Roman Myths. Prophets are just people
who fortified an ethical standard or best-practice-for-the-era with "And God said so." To whatever extent these myths anesthetized the
emotional pain of the death of a loved one, or your death, or achieved ethical behavior, that's great, and needs to be continued. When myths
are counterproductive to societal benefit, they need to be labeled as myths and ignored - at some point, you have to tell your kids 'there's no
Santa Claus,' or your grandkids are going to have lousy Christmases. But when myths are used to hurt people, the myths need to be
appropriately labeled, and ignored.

Unitarian Church in Salt Lake City, a homosexual in a long-term homosexual

relationship, taught the high school youth class. The Unitarian Universalist faith,
nationally, does approve of homosexual marriage. If freedom of religion exists in
America, then that religious belief needs to be protected. In forming the conclusion that
homosexuals are not pedophiles, not proselyte a homosexual lifestyle, the author is
making the logical and persuasive error of drawing the general from the specific, or
making a conclusion based on a statistically-invalid sample. He doesn't feel like doing
the research. An 8-page essay with 32 footnotes is a fervent statement of protection for
a persecuted minority. For the more motivated, if well-conducted, statistically-valid
research studies are available, you have the author's encouragement to replace this
paragraph with those studies.

AMERICAN ROOT OF PERSECUTING HOMOSEXUALS IS JUDAEO-

CHRISTIANITY. In the Old Testament (or Jewish Torah), homosexuality was an
abomination, and a sin that merited being stoned. 8 Indeed, in that barbaric era, the
Jewish nation didn't reproduce sufficiently to withstand being swept off the land: Not
reproducing warriors and warrior-producers was a true sin against the society. In the
modern era of the United Nations, numbers are not needed to maintain a society.
According to Jewish myth, Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed for homosexuality. 9 The
apostle Paul, in three letters (epistles), condemned homosexuality.10 The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), and the Religious Coalition for Marriage
are actively supporting the ban-on-homosexual marriage amendment.11 Apparently the
Mormons, now that they enjoy freedom from religious persecution, have forgotten the
religious persecution they suffered in the 1800's, and abandoned their 11th article of
faith: "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the DICTATES OR
OUR OWN CONSCIENCE, and ALLOW all men the same privilege,[.] Let them worship
HOW, where, or what they may."12

FREEDOM OF RELIGION OF THOSE-NOT-SHARING-JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN-

MYTHS DICTATES THAT GOVERNMENT NOT PASS LEGISLATION AGAINST
HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE. Translating a religious belief into law violates the freedom
of religion amendment, and separation of church and state. America has the goal of
freedom of religion, but we keep abandoning that principle when a given religious belief
is the minority. Didn't the Mormons have homes burned, were murdered, probably had
women raped, in New York, Kirtland, Ohio, Nauvoo, Illinois, Independence, Missouri; and
left the United States to obtain religious freedom? The author, Mitch Ring, has been in

the house of relatives who were victims of house-burning-level "religious" hatred: Two of
his great grandparents converted to the Mennonite faith in Russia around 1910: Their
home was burned and they came to America. The author guesses America is better
than Russia: When Americans persecute a minority religious view, we don't burn homes
anymore, we just pass laws against minority religious views. 20/20 hindsight has always
revealed that when religion is used to hurt people, religion was misguided: The stoning
of adulterers; the crusades; jihad; the Spanish inquisition; the Moslem-Christian clashes
in Czechoslavakia and Yugoslavia; the current Moslem terrorism activities against the
United States; the burning of Copernicus, and the lifetime imprisonment of Galilei
Galileo for saying that the Sun, not the Earth was the center of the solar system;
Mormons withholding the priesthood from Africans; and the Mormon Meadows
Massacre. As a society and a country, we've progressed from burning homes,
murdering, imprisonment, and withholding religious privilege and ceremonies, in the
name of religion to only preventing people from getting married. The practice is still
stone throwing, and as usual with religious persecution, it's misguided. The current no-
marriage-for-homosexuals amendment doesn't "protect" marriage - adult heterosexuals
can already marry to whatever extent they want. The no-marriage-for-homosexuals
amendment is stone throwing at homosexuals. If your, or your constituents' stone-
throwing against homosexuality finds its roots in religious belief, then you must vote
against the ban-on-homosexual-marriage amendment. A ban on homosexual marriage
violates freedom of religion, and the separation of church and state.

HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE IS ENDORSED BY LEADING PSYCHOLOGICAL

AND PSYCHIATRIC PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS. In May, 2005, the American
Psychiatric Association, approved a resolution endorsing homosexual marriage "in the
interest of maintaining and promoting mental health; . . . [promotes the] positive
influence of a stable, adult partnership on the health of all family members." The
resolution recognizes "that gay men and lesbians are full human beings who should be
afforded the same human and civil rights." In 2004, the American Psychological
Association also passed a resolution endorsing homosexual marriage.13

CONCLUSION-SUMMARY. Homosexuality, male or female, is almost-certainly

caused by genetics. Punishing homosexuals is like punishing someone for being left-
handed - a choice, but genetically caused. Pressuring homosexuals to experiment with
heterosexuality inflicts 3 negative consequences on the heterosexual community: 1)
When the homosexual reverts to homosexuality, the negative consequences include
people single for life, or marrying less than they deserve, the burden of being a single
parent, and children raised by single parents; 2) for women marrying homosexual-men-
pressured-to-try-heterosexuality, increased exposure to venereal diseases, increased
occurrence of lifelong sterilization, and AIDS; and 3) families will have to have ostracize

about 1-out-of-27 of their kids and grandkids. Most of America has abandoned the
archaic religious practices of not eating pork, not eating lobster, stoning adulterers, and
considering divorce to be a sin: We should also abandon the archaic practice of harming
homosexuals. The current no-marriage-for-homosexuals amendment doesn't "protect"
marriage - adult heterosexuals can already marry to whatever extent they want. The no-
marriage-for-homosexuals amendment is stone throwing at homosexuals. The freedom
or religion amendment, and the practice of separating church and state, requires that the
ban-on-homosexual-marriage amendment not even be brought to a vote.

accurate higher figure. [(52%-32%)/52% & (22%-13%)/22%]. Statistical
correlation for both studies: 0.28 to 0.65.17

5) Non-twin brother of twins-one-of-whom-is-a-male-homosexual: 9%.19

homosexual men occurred. This higher rate of male homosexuality implies that
one of the women's x chromosomes passed to their sons promoted

same genetic pattern among the gay men on three chromosomes --
chromosomes 7, 8, and 10. These common genetic patterns were shared by 60%
of the gay men in the study. This is slightly more than the 50% expected by
chance alone. The regions on chromosome 7 and 8 were associated with male
sexual orientation regardless of whether the man got them from his mother or
father. The regions on chromosome 10 were only associated with male sexual
orientation if they were inherited from the mother.23

pheromones the way that heterosexual men do.24
