System".

As Justice Benjamin Cardozo stated in the Supreme Court case Palko v. Connecticut,
“Freedom of thought... it is the matrix, the indispensable condition, of nearly every
other form of freedom.” From this idea of the freedom of thought springs up the
novel idea of capitalism, an economic concept that dictates that people can share
their goods and services without fear of having their ideas being suppressed by
some higher legal power. The United States practices a modified form of capitalism,
creating what is known today as the American free enterprise system. This system,
in turn provides prosperity and economic stability, to those who choose to take the
initial leap to engage in such commerce. By creating a system which involves little
government intervention in economic affairs, the US has produced a functioning
society dependent on the idea of freedom of choice.

Founded upon the freedoms to own property, make decisions based on enlightened
self-interest, to either produce goods or services to contribute to the American
marketplace of ideas, the American free enterprise system has instilled the
American people, a renewed sense of vigor, as well as a belief that people can truly
achieve the American Dream if they work hard and utilize the system to the best of
their ability. To achieve this greatly sought after ideal of the American Dream, every
year thousands of Americans enter the free market, creating new opportunities for
jobs and economic prosperity for the community as well. While the original intent of
capitalism seems largely individually motivated, the modified American version
allows for several different types of commerce to occur such as through entities
such as corporations, partnerships and small businesses. This variety of various
companies provides for increased numbers of jobs and greater numbers of profit as
well.

Ultimately, the concept of the American Free Enterprise System stems from the
idea that economic prosperity is predicated upon hope. It creates an economy
open to new ideas and original concepts. It stimulates the development of
workers of varying capacities and occupations to serve the country’s needs
and interests. It promotes the will and actions of the people with very little
governmental interference. The opportunity to compete in a free and open
market encourages the American people to think critically and make
decisions based on deep analysis of other statistics and actions by
consumers and then resourcefully to act for themselves in their best interest
or their companies best interest to create a free and functioning system.
