1. SCOPE.
- These regulation are the requirements for the water services connection and
installation .Their purpose is to prevent misuse, waste, undue consumption or
erroneous measurement of water and, most importantly, to prevent leak of drinking
water. They replace the former [Rules & regulation guide pluming works, first
edition 1996 - MEW] which had implemented for similar purposes for many years.
- These regulation are for designers, Engineers , installer and applies in the State of
Qatar for all types of properties such as towers , multistory, complexes, commercial
& Industrial Sectors, etc) to be supplied from Kahramaa.
- Applicants of properties and anyone who wish to installs systems must ensure that
the systems comply with the regulation requirements. Application must be given of
proposed services or installations in most cases, so Kahramaa – Customers
Services Department can study and review for approval.
- If you are doing your own installation, ensure you know what requirements you
must meet. If you are employing someone else, consider using an Approved
Water Installation Plumber.
How do the regulations affect you?
- Your system must be installed and maintained to comply with these regulations.
- Your system shall prevent water leak by applying these regulations.
- You must prevent contamination of drinking water.
- You must give Application of installation work to Customers Services Department
- You may be benefit from using an Approved Water Installation Contractor or
licensed plumber

2. APPLICATION CATEGORIES.

In most cases, the Applicants, before any proposed installation to be started, must
submit advanced notice of the work. This applies to services connection or
installation of Multistory, complex, villa, Industrial Sector, Commercial Sectored or for
other cases such as
- Swimming pool (circulating system)
- Fire Hydrant
- pumps
- Fire systems
All of above cases will be subject to review and study by Kahramaa – Customers
Services Department, and decision, action must be followed. This should alter the
Applicants to see that obligation upon regulations is fully met.

3. GENERAL.

- All material for services connection such as MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene)
pipes & fittings, Electronic Water meter, Water meter cabinet, etc. Shall be subject
and comply with the latest edition of Kahramaa General Specification of Mainlying
of Materials.
- Material which will be used for water services or installations system must be of a
suitable International Standard (ISO, BS EN, DIN, etc). The regulations list the
standards which Material must meet.
- No material, either alone or in combination with any other material or with the
contents of any water fitting of which it forms a part, which causes or is likely to
cause contamination of water shall be used in the installation, renewal, repair or
replacement of any water services connection which conveys or receives, or may
convey or receive, water supplied for domestic or food production purposes.

4. Definitions
In this Bye –laws booklet , the following words and expressions shall have the meanings
defined as follows:

Applicant means a person who is of a communal service;

APPROVAL or APPROVED means approval in writing or Stamp by Kahra Maa

BACKFLOW means flow in a direction contrary to the intended normal direction of flow;

PREMISES means any house or building apartment or part of a house or building and
the cartilage thereof in respect of which water is supplied or applied for;

CUSTOMER means any person, persons or corporate body supplied with, or applying to
be supplied with water by Kahr Maa. Reference to "customer" in these bye- laws shall
include Applicant as defined before

CORRSION RESISTING MATERIAL means any material which is highly resistant to


any corrosive action to which it is likely to be subjected in the circumstances in which it is
to be used;

CYLINDER means cylindrical closed vessel capable of containing water under pressure
greater than atmospheric pressure;

CAPACITY in relation to storage cistern or tank means the capacity of the cistern
Or tank measured to the highest level the water can reach when the float valve or other
approved device for controlling the inflow of water is fitted

CHARGE means any charge for water, any deposit or fee payable to the Kahr Maa,
The actual cost , or other works carried out by the Kahr Maa, and any other charge,
including any surcharge which is payable under these Bye-laws;

CISTERN means a fixed container for holding water at atmospheric pressure like tanks,
sectional panel GRP tank or concrete tank

CLOSED LOOP means any system of pipes and water fittings through which water
circulates in the internal network (in Residential complex) and from which water is drawn
for use, that feed or supplying water to cistern.

DISTRIBUTING PIPE means any pipe (other than an overflow or a flushing pipe )
conveying water from a storage cistern or from a hot water apparatus supplied from, a
feed cistern, or under pressure from that cistern ;

DISTRIBUTION MAIN means a pipeline that conveys water to the premises by means of
service connection;

DOMESTIC WATER SYSTEM means the water system which includes the distributing
pipe and all associated apparatus within premises up to the point, where water is drawn
for use;

FIRE SERVICE means the pipes, tanks, pumps, fittings and apparatus in any premises
installed for the purpose of fire fighting;

FLOAT VALVE means a valve, for controlling the flow of water into a cistern, the valve
being operated by the vertical movement of a float riding on the surface of the water;

FLUSHING CISTERN means a cistern provided with its discharging apparatus for
discharging the stored water rapidly into a water closet pan, urinal , drain or sewer;

HEADER means that pipe conveying water from the down stream tank ( or Roof tank)
In building through OTS(open to sky ) supplying the corresponding floor.

INSIDE SERVICE means the pipes and fittings in premises after the ground storage tank
and any pipes and fittings between the storage tanks and the termination of the
Water net work service connection, which shall normally be at the meter;

ISO means the international Organization for standardization,

INTERNAL NETWORK means a pipeline that conveys water from the main cistern to
the individual villa or buildings and other utilities inside the Residential Complex by the
set of water pumps.

METER means any appliance or device owned and maintained by Kahramaa for the
purpose of measuring consumption;

MAIN METER means meter that water is conveyed from the distribution network to the
premises through it to the adjacent Ground Tanks.

METER CABINET means the aluminum box that design and approved by Kahra Maa in
which water meter will be install in .

METER CHAMBER means manhole under ground in which electronic sensor will install
in connected to the GRP bulk Meter Cabinet by 2 inches conducts for the sensor cord to
the EDU electronic display unit.

OVERFLOW LEVEL means the lowest level at which water can flow in to the overflow
pipe of a cistern or tank

POTABLE WATER means water supplied by Kahr Maa which is suitable for drinking
and culinary purposes;

RISER means pipe that conveying water from down stream of booster pump up to the
roof tanks on the roof floor of the building.

SUB MAIN mean those water meters in side the compound (complex). Through which
water is conveyed to the buildings from the internal network in side the complex. in case
of complex composed of villa and buildings.

SUB METERS means those individual meters downs stream of the main meter or sub
main through which water is conveyed to flats or villa in building or complex.

PREMISES means any house or building apartment or part of a house or building and
the cartilage thereof in respect of which water is supplied or applied for.

REGISTERED PLUMING CONTRACTOR means a person authorized by the Kahr Maa


to carry out plumbing work of the grade indicated.

SERVICE PIPE means so much of any pipe/arrangement of pipes for supplying water
from a distribution main to any premises as is subject to water pressure from that main
and ends at the water meter at the Consumes boundary provide that only one pipe be
connected to the water meter

SERVICE CONNECTION means the part of pipes and fittings between the Distribution
Main up to and including the Water Meter at the Consumers boundary;

SPILL- OVER LEVEL means the level at which the water in a cistern or vessel will first
spill over if the inflow exceeds the outflow through any outlet and any overflow pipe;

STOP VALVE means any device other than a draw-off tap, for stopping the flow of water
in a pipe;

SWIMMING POOL PLANT ROOM is the mechanical room for swimming pool in which
filtration, dosing and circulation of water is done through the surge or balance tank

STOPAGE TANK means any tank other than a flushing cistern having a free water
surface under atmospheric pressure, but does not include a drinking trough or drinking-
bowl for animals ,including poultry;

WATER BOOSTER PUMPS means set of Pumps that boosting water from the main
cistern to the villa or flat utilities.
Very important to detect the pump's Total head and the height of the premises and
relevant loses.

WARNING PIPE means an overflow so fixed that its outlet, whether inside or outside the
building is in a conspicuous position where the discharge of water can e readily seen;

5. PROPERTY REQUIREMENTS.

5.1. Residential Complex.

Residential complex can be compound of villa see figure (Housing Complex Drg No
1&2) or complex of buildings see figure (Building Complex) or combine of villa and
buildings

5.1.1 Water Meter Service Cabinet :

• Service cabinet must be installing on the boundary wall to the nearest point
to Kahramaa water networks either in front of the premises or at the back.
The pip line must be copper or MDPE. (15 mm up to 42 mm Water Meters)
Those meters install in regular service cabinet see figure (GIS/STD/30/04)
• If the tie in point to the residential complex will be 54 mm Water Meter then
the 54mm water meter cabinet must be install see figure (GIS/STD/30/03)
at 1.2m from the ground level(Road Level), but the gate valve must be
install between the cabinet and the ground tanks all fittings up to the
ground tanks must be soldering.
• If the Main Meter install in Chamber for big size water meter more than
80mm so chamber is required see figure ( GIS/STD/52/06/A)

5.1.2 Main water tanks ( ground tanks ) :

There must be water tanks very close to the tie in point beneath to the meter
cabinet those ground tank must be as Kahramaa approve water tanks those water
tanks must be on concrete base 0.2 m thick. The supply inlet point to water tank
must be on top to each water tank see figure ( House complex1 ).The down stream
discharge points to each water tanks must deliver to header then to water booster
pumps minimum two working and the third one stand by.
• The capacity of the main water tanks are function of number villa and
utilities building in the complex 800 gal for each in case of main tanks that
is supply directly to the corresponding villa roof tank.
• The capacity of the main tanks will 1/4 of the total demand to be used as
break or intermediate tank see figure (House complex Drg.No.:2)

5.1.3 Residential complex internal water mains :

The internal water Main network inside the complex must be as approve drawing
from Installation section at Customer Services Department in building permit stage
. Also water pipe must be as Kahramaa specifications. Before the embankment of
the internal network it must be inspected by water installation engineer after filling
complex internal networks form see Forms, for detecting the pressure test under 6

bar from point close to water booster pumps up to each sub meters stop valves,
also checking fire hydrant, pvc ducts (sleeves) and control valves service boxes.
Then the embankment will be 0.3 m sand on top of water pipes. Be side 0.2 m
sand bed.

5.1.4 Individual water meter for inside the residential complex:

Each villa, club house swimming and any other utilities buildings inside the
complex must be 22 mm water meter in separate water meter cabinet for each.

5.1.5 Laying the water internal network in side the complex:

1- It must be done as the approved (S S P )drawing ( by kahra Maa )


2- Material used as per Kahra Maa specifications see appendix ( ) .
3- The depth of the internal network must be 0.6 m, then backfill by 0.3 m sand.
4- The pipe line in junction or road crossing must be lay though appropriate sleeve
which is cover by concrete, for the avoidance of compaction.
5- Moreover sleeve must be used at the entrance of the corresponding villa car
parking.
6- Sub meter taping point from the internal network must either by ferule or by
taping, farther more each taping point of supply to the corresponding villa must
be 22 mm internal diameter, as a supply point. ( see fig )
7- If the compound composed of some buildings, the Sub main supply must be
never exceed 54mm as internal diameter of the supply pipe line.
8- The control valves of the internal network must as per Kahra Maa specifications
see appendix ( ) . At point that mentioned in the approved drawing.
9- The internal network must close loop or ring type.
10- The main taping point to the overall complex supply to the main tanks of the
compound ,that is sufficient for 48 hours supply or as mentioned in the approved
drawing :
• Individual group of tanks:
The upstream supply points must from top for the entire group with
appropriate ball valve more over gate valve for any extra ordinary.
• Sectional panel tank :
Must be as per Kahra Maa specifications, as approved
drawing in building permit stage in location and capacity on the
appropriate concrete plinth.
• Concrete tank either under ground or above the ground, must be
constructed as the approved capacity and location that mentioned in
the approved drawing. Reinforce steel bar must be Epoxy coated.
Moreover if it is under ground it must be with appropriate avoidance of
rain fall or others.
11- The pump set must as mentioned in the approved drawing ,
• The upstream supply pipe must be minimum 100mm.
• Set of pumps must have minimum one extra pump as stand by
pump.

12- If there is separate fire system in the complex :
• In case of separate water tanks, .Supply through meter is required.
• In case of combine water, tanks (Domestic+ fire) then the Fire Meter
install in down stream tanks line supply the fire system.

13- If there is irrigation system used in side the complex :


• A separate water tank is required for the system, which supply
through water meter.
• In case of combine tank then the down stream tanks line supply the
Irrigation system.

5.2. Multi Stories Buildings and Towers.

For multi stories, buildings and Towers in BP stage (Building Permit Stage):

• The consultant must attach Schematic Diagram for over all building showing the
sub meters in each floor.
• The Architecture consultant must keep in consideration in Design stage sub
Meter to be closer to OTS (open to sky) through which the 100mm Header is
Pass.
• The Consultant must consider the individual meters Cabinets to be in suitable
location for easy monitoring and handling (1.2m from the floor level).
• Non Return Valve is required at the down stream of the propose meter to be
install in.
• Drain is required at the bottom of the cabinet conveying water to (OTS) Duct.
• Distance between each pipe minimum 0.2m and 0.5 m between bottom and the
non-return valve for Meter to be install in.

These must be mention in approved drawing at service connection stage.

5.2.1. Main Water Meter Cabinet :

• It must be install close to boundary line of the premises adjacent to


Kahramaa water main as mention in approved drawing (S S P) service site
plan water layout in Building permit stage.
• In case of water meter chamber it must be constructed as in approved
BP(Building Permit stage).as in figure ( GIS/STD/52-06A)

5.2.2. Multi Stories Buildings Ground Tanks:

For those multi stories buildings, the ground water tanks must be near to the tie in
point. The capacity of those tanks must be sufficient for the building's flats that
satisfied for 48 hours.
If it is combine tanks supply other like Fire or Irrigation or both so their Demand
must be under consideration with the domestic demand in calculating the combine
tank capacity.

5.2.3. Fire system in Multi Stories Buildings:

• In case of separate Fire tanks, water meter will be installing in the up


stream of the tanks.
• In case of combine water tanks Fire meter will be as in approve schematic
Diagram in BP (Building Permit stage) , at the down stream line before 1 m
from fire Pumps.

5.2.4 Sub meters in Multi stories Buildings :

• In case of Towers and Buildings Higher than Eleven stories : Meters will be in
each floor in suitable location for easy monitoring, handling and maintenance,
through one Header or more see figure (Multi stories building Drg.No.1 &2) as in
approved drawing in BP (building permit) stage).

• In case of buildings Ground + eleven stories or less there are two


choices:

1. Sub Meters will be on each floor as in towers high buildings.

2. Sub Meters in the roof floor but must fulfilled these commitments :

• Safe and easy reaching the roof floor (lift & 45degree ladder if exist).
• Reducing number roof tanks to be as combined tanks of minimum 100 gal
corresponding to the number of flats that supply from.
• Individual meters will in the 0.6m height fabricated aluminum cabinet
mounted on 0.8m high block wall at the center of the roof floor. For safe
and easy monitoring.
• Two pressurize pumps required in the 100mm header down stream of the
combined roof tanks that supply the corresponding sub meters each one
is 22mm pipeline.
• Sub meters will install vertically in that cabinet, with 0.1m width plywood
fixed at the back of the fabricated cabinet. Distance between pipes is
0.2m with 0.6 heights of the pipe to install the water meter.
• All of the above must be mention in the approved Schematic Diagram at
the BP (Building Permit) stage. With approved sectional view of the roof
floor showing the cabinet mounted on the block wall and sub meters.

5.3.1 Commercial Centers ( Flats & shops:

For Commercial center, there must be main water meter cabinet closed to the tie in
point with ground tanks that sufficient for the number of flats and shops for 48
hours. The discharge down stream line from water tanks header must be minimum
54 mm that supply each corresponding shop or flat line with non return valve, all
sub meter must be 22 mm water meters. Meters shall be in ground floor in sub
meter cabinet then through each riser to individual roof tank.

5.3. Public Houses & Villa.

The water meter cabinet must be install on the boundary wall in the nearest point
to Kahramaa water networks, either in front of the premises or at the back side as
in approved drawing at the BP stage ,at 1.2m height from the road level. The Water
Meter Service Cabinet must be typical to Kahramaa specifications. MDPE pipe or
Copper pipe must passes through service cabinet from 0.3m and 90 degree bend
under the Road level ,then up passes through the 50 mm PVC duct to the cabinet .
Gate valve must be install before the ground tanks. 2 bar ball valve must be install
in side any approved Water Tanks according to Kahramaa specifications. The
capacity of water tanks must be sufficient for minimum 48 hours, 800 gal as
minimum, these ground tanks must be on base of 0.2m thick concrete base.

• In case of villa or public house, that use pressurizes system the ground
tanks must be sufficient for the he consumption.
• In case of public or villa the may have ground tanks and roof tanks
• In case of slope roof floor villa or Gobles, workshops the roof tank must be
install in steel stand to as elevated tank. See figure (work shop, labour
accommodation)

The water booster pump must be install in the down stream (out let discharge point
from that tank) with non return valve (one directional valve) then boosting water
towards roof tank of public house or villa and other utilities building roof tank . Roof
tanks must be minimum 250 gal for utilities buildings and 400 gal for the house or
villa.

5.4. MDPE Services Connection.

5.4.1.MDPE Installation :
 This specification covers laying of MDPE pipes with associated fittings for
size range 20mm (1/2") up to 63mm (2") underground and aboveground.
 Excavation and backfilling for MDPE service connection will be in
accordance with section 4 & 5 of this specification noting that pipe depth
shall be 600mm as detailed in the attached drawing no. GIS/STD/51B.
 MDPE service pipe shall have 100mm sand bedding, 150mm sand cover
above crown of the pipe, another 150mm selected backfill material with
100% compaction, and backfill material of varied depth up to ground level,
all in accordance with Road Dept Highways Maintenance Section
requirements.
 Trench marker tape with aluminum strip in the middle shall be laid at
minimum 300mm depth below ground level along route of pipe.
a. The Contractor shall tap distribution main at depth of minimum 900mm
and bring MDPE pipe from ferrule to a higher elevation without use of any
fittings, as far as possible, so that MDPE pipe could be laid at a minimum
depth of 600mm from ground level, from distribution main till it reaches
customer boundary wall.
 The minimum width of trench excavation is to be service pipe duct diameter
(either 100mm or 150mm) used plus 200mm and maximum width of trench
excavation is to be service pipe duct diameter used plus 300mm.
 When laid above ground along customer wall premises or elsewhere,
Polyethylene Pipe shall be protected with GRP duct of minimum thickness
3mm.
 Two sizes are allowed; 2” duct for 20mm (1/2"), 25mm (3/4") & 32mm (1")
and 3”duct for 50mm (11/2") & 63mm (2").
 The GRP duct shall start from ground level and be extended to an
appropriate height to secure exposed MDPE pipe near the water meter
service cabinet. The GRP duct shall be of semi-circular shape and be firmly
fixed to the wall with brackets.
 MDPE Pipes shall be "blue color" of either solid wall or multi-layer
construction.
 Installation of MDPE pipes and fittings shall be carried out by plumbers who
have been trained and certified by the manufacturers for pipes and fittings.
The Contractor shall submit copies of plumbers training certificate issued by
the Manufacturer to Kahramaa as proof of their skill and competency in
performing such installations.
 All other clauses of Section 7 such as pressure testing, sterilization etc are
applicable for laying MDPE pipes and fittings.

Note. From Customer side the following requirements shall be satisfied
before giving a MDPE service connection.
1. Domestic Service cabinet shall be fixed inside the customer wall along with a
uPVC duct underneath and continued with a 90 deg bend – all to allow easy
access of MDPE service connection
2. Since KM is installing ‘lockable stop valve’ inside service cabinet which can
be operated only by KM, the customer must fix his own gate valve or stop
valve after the water meter, to control water supply in case of any leak in his
internal line. Another stop valve just before customer ground tank is optional,
which customer can fix, if he desires.

5.4.2.Materials MDPE

 Polyethylene Pipes shall be MDPE, PE-80, SDR 11 and PN-12.5 bar at 20°C.
and shall be blue in colour of either solid wall or multi-layer construction.

 Polyethylene Pipe shall be protected with GRP duct of minimum thickness


3mm when laid aboveground along customer wall premises or elsewhere.
Two sizes are allowed; 2” duct for 20mm (1/2"), 25mm (3/4") & 32mm (1") and
3”duct for 50mm (11/2") & 63mm (2").

 The GRP duct shall start from ground level and be extended to an
appropriate height to secure exposed MDPE pipe near the water meter
service cabinet. The GRP duct shall be of semi-circular shape and be firmly
fixed to the wall with brackets.

 To trace route of Polyethylene Pipe laid underground, 100mm wide trench


marker tape with aluminium stripe at its centre, shall be laid above the
polyethylene pipe, at 450mm minimum depth in order to detect it through
metal detector.
 PE pipes are normally supplied in bundles of straight lengths of 6m or 12m or
in coils of 200, 300, 400 or 500m length depending on their size

 Fitting shall be compression type (either PPR or Gunmetal) to suit MDPE


Pipe and must be UV resistant and shall have a pressure rating of PN16 @
20 deg C for standard fittings and PN 12.5 for universal transition couplings
(PE to copper, PVC-U, steel)

5.5. Water Meter Cabinet.

-The water meter cabinet has different types, each is used for
different application depending on the case, these types are as per
the following:-

 Domestic Electronic W ater Meter. (see drawings )
 2 " Ø Electronic Flow Meter (Integral type). (see drawings )
 2 " Ø Electronic Flow Meter (remote type). (see drawings )
 2 " Bulk Electronic Meter (Integral & remote type). (see drawings )
 Bulk Electronic Flow Meter (remote type) 2" to 12".(see drawings )
 Bulk Electronic Flow Meter (remote type) 3" to 16".(see drawings )

Note. Detailed design for each type is shown in the drawings.

5.6. Fire System.

Fire system used in buildings is usually either sprinkler system type or Hose Reel
type this will be authorized by CDD .So water meter is required for fire system at
the upstream of the fire if separate water tank.
Fire system in side Residential complex will be approved by CDD but if there is
separate Fire water tank the water meter at the up stream to tank is required.
If there is combined water tanks water demand required for fire must be
considered in calculation with the domestic Demand and others.

5.7. Customer's Number Plate:

Plate indicating the customer number shall be fixed on the corresponding


premises see figure (DRG noFSD/FCS/65)

5.8. Usage guide:

- Bacteriological Quality of drinking water.

State of Qatar is classified as being among the worlds most arid and desert
regions. The rainfall is concentrated in the Winter & Spring period (December to
March) with an average of 50 – 80mm per annum. No discernible pattern in
rainfall occurrence is apparent, but there is a tendency of rainfall to occur more
often during February & March. Rainfall can be heavy with poor natural drainage
resulting in surface flooding.

 The site is not subject to Industrial pollution, but due to being near
the coast; the air can be salt laden with occasional fog. During the
winter and spring periods, sever electrical storms with sheet and
forked lightning can occur.

6.3. General Specification of Materials.

Specification of Polyethylene Pipes & Fittings For Services


Connection (MDPE)
1.1 GENERAL

1.1.1 Polyethylene Pipes & Fittings used for conveyance of


potable water shall be manufactured in accordance with DIN-
8074, BS 6730, BS 6572, ISO 4427 or equivalent and shall
be manufactured by ISO Certified Company.

1.1.2 Polyethylene Pipes shall be MDPE, PE-80, SDR 11, PN-12.5


bar.

1.1.3 Polyethylene Pipes shall be black color with blue stripe to


distinguish potable water.

1.1.4 Test Pressure for the pipes shall be 2.5 times the nominal
pressure at 20°C.

1.1.5 Polyethylene Pipes & fittings shall be Kite Marked certifying it


complies with ISO 4427 or equivalent DIN, BS Standard.

1.1.6 Pipe manufacturers must furnish test certificate in


accordance with EN 10204-3.1 for batches of MDPE
supplied.

1.1.7 Polyethylene Pipe shall be protected with GRP duct when


laid aboveground along customer wall premises. Two sizes
are allowed; 2” duct (for 20mm, 25mm and 32mm), 3”duct for
50mm and 63mm.

1.1.8 Polyethylene Pipe shall have trench marker tape with


aluminum stripe to detect the pipe through metal detector.

1.2 POLYETHYLENE PIPES (MATERIAL)

1.2.1 The polymer used for the manufacturing or the products


must be approved by World wide Known Quality Body
Certifier such as WRc , DVGW, etc. in contact with potable
water at 50° C.

1.2.2 The Pipes & Fittings used for conveying potable water or
likely to come into contact with potable water shall not
constitute a toxic hazard, shall not support microbial growth

and shall not give rise to unpleasant taste, or odor,
cloudiness or discoloration of water.

1.2.3 Polyethylene shall be virgin (no mix batching), pre-pigmented


black color.

1.2.4 Pipes must be UV resistant with maximum 2.5% Carbon


content.

1.2.5 The polyethylene pipe shall meet the following specification:-

1.3 LENGTH AND SIZE

1.3.1 PE pipes are normally supplied in bundles of straight lengths


of 6 or 12m , or in coils as per the table below:

1.3.2 The ovality of the pipe in coils as manufactured shall not


exceed the value of 0.06 of the nominal size of the pipe.

1.3.3 The ovality of the pipe in coils after relaxation and straight
pipe shall not exceed the value of “1 + (0.008 of the nominal
size of the pipe).

1.4 FITTINGS

1.4.1 Fitting shall be compression type (either PP-R or Gunmetal)


to suit MDPE Pipe and must be UV resistant.

1.4.2 Pressure rating: SDR = 11, Bar = 12.5 bar

1.4.3 Inlet connection to be suitable for MDPE Pipe, outlet


connection to be threaded BSP Female.

1.4.4 Fittings for polyethylene shall be approved to ISO9080


(Plastic piping and ducting systems- determination of the
long term hydrostatic strength of thermoplastic materials in
pipe form by extrapolation) or equivalent.
- Flanged Fittings:
Flange Adaptor to join MDPE pipe to flanged equipments (63mm OD
MDPE pipe to 2" dia flange to BS 4504/ISO 7005, BS EN 1092-2 with PN
16 rating), material: black coated Steel or SG Iron to BS EN 1563:1997
Grade EN-GJS-450-10, Gasket: EPDM compound Grade 'E'.

1.4.5 Fitting bodies and nuts shall be made from polypropylene


using at least 90% virgin raw material so to comply with the
following performance.

1.4.6 Fittings for PE connection shall be supplied complete with


pre-assembled and captivated grip ring and “O” ring.

1.4.7 Fitting color shall be black so as to minimize potential light


transmission and/or UV degradation.

1.4.8 Fittings shall comprise an internal positive stop to ensure


perfect installation.

1.4.9 The compression fittings must conform with the following


relevant internationally standards performance

-Stop valve shall be made of Gunmetal suitable in connecting MDPE Pipes. For
underground installation - Stop Valve shall be made of Gunmetal BS 5433
crutch head with gunmetal ended compression couplings to fit MDPE pipe both
sides for all size range from 20mm up to 63mm.

For aboveground installation inside/outside service cabinet before water meter –
Stop valve shall be of brass tamper proof lockable type as per discretion of
the concerned Engineer. Suitable size of gunmetal or polypropylene (PPR)
compression couplings at both sides shall be used in connecting MDPE Pipe of
all size range from 20mm up to 63m

1.4.10 Ferrule and saddles shall be suitable to suit MDPE and shall
be manufactured of gunmetal for Underground installation
application.

1.5 SADDLE STRAPS

1.5.1 Saddle straps for service connections shall be flat boss type
suitable for tapping up to 2” diameter ferrule. The strap shall
be suitable for making service connections under pressure or
dry using approved tapping machine into DI, AC Steel or
PVC pipes. The saddle shall be of two parts fitted with
EPDM sealing gasket in a groove on the underside of the flat
boss.

1.5.2 The flat boss shall be cast with a hole or marking through the
boss to facilitate the drilling and tapping process. The straps
shall be supplied un-drilled.

1.5.3 The saddle strap shall be of gunmetal to BS 1400-LG2 with


stainless steel nuts, bolts and washer to ISO 3506 and shall
be suitable for a working pressure of up to 16 bar.

1.5.4 The name of manufacturer, patent number, pipe diameter to


which the strap is suitable, and pipe material shall be
engraved on the saddle strap.

1.5.5 The saddle strap shall be accompanied by manufacturer’s


certificate stating date of manufacture, material specification.

1.6 FERRULE

1.6.1 Ferrules shall be the screw down valve type allowing for the
shut off of the flow by means of Ω” square head spindle
extending from the top cap for opening and closing. The
valve shall close clockwise.

1.6.2 The ferrule outlet shall be compression type to fit


polyethylene service connection pipes.

1.6.3 The ferrule stern, banjo, spindle, inner plug and top cap shall
be of gunmetal to BS 1400-LG2. The washers shall be of
EPDM and shall provide the sealing between the outer body
and the ferrule stem. A polyethylene top plug shall prohibit
the ingression of dirt.

1.6.4 The ferrule shall be designed as a main stem with a 360°


swivel outlet at 90° with control of water flow via the threaded
inner plug. The inlet shall be male taper thread to BS 21.

1.6.5 The ferrule shall be suitable for drinking water at a


temperature of up to 50°C and capable to sustain a working
pressure of up to 16 bar without leakage.

1.6.6 The ferrule shall permit the installation of service connection


using under pressure tapping through flat boss saddle
straps.

1.7 JOINTS

1.7.1 Pipe Jointing shall be compression type.

1.8 MARKING

1.8.1 Pipes shall be marked as follows:-


1. Manufacturer’s name
2. Standard
3. Nominal size of pipe in mm [ nominal outside diameter x
nominal wall thickness]
4. SDR
5. Pressure rating in Bar
6. Month & year of manufacture.

7. Pipes shall have blue stripe to distinguish potable water.
8. Body of the fittings should have Manufacturer’s name/ logo.

1.9 PACKAGING

1.9.1 All compression fittings must be individually packed in


transparent protective bags indicating its type and size.

1.9.2 All compression fittings must be packed in cartoon boxes.

1.9.3 If only one type of product is packed all cartoon boxes shall
have a label showing the manufacturer identification, the
description of the product, the drawing of the product, the
relevant size and the quantity.

1.10 HANDLING & STORAGE

1.10.1 Pipes and Fittings shall be handled and stored carefully as


per manufacturer’s recommendation.

1.10.2 From manufacturer to laying stage, Pipes & Fittings shall be


stored and transported in covered area to avoid direct
sunlight.

1.10.3 All damaged Pipe & Fitting due to mishandling shall be


rejected.

1.10.4 The height of stack of pipes shall be as per manufacturer’s


recommendation.
