PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
1990 - Present Clinical Psychologist, independent practice, with the following s
ervices provided:
psychodiagnostic assessment/psychological testing
consultation on hospital units
and individual, couples, and family therapies.
Special interests:
psychological assessment for patients with complex problems, including professi
onals referred by their professional licensing board, and workers referred for f
itness for duty evaluations
brief therapy
personality disorders;
young adults in transition
integrating psychotherapy with 12-step recovery programs
chaotic families
and pre-surgery psychological assessment for patients being evaluated for baria
tric surgery.
1996 - Present Consultant, Behavioral Healthcare Providers (BHP). BHP is a uniq
ue company organized and run by a group of psychiatrists, with the goal of provi
ding management of mental health benefits based on clinical qua-ity indicators.
BHP has contracted with several local insurance com-panies to manage their menta
l health benefits.
Dr. Sethre was a member of a group of about 20 psychiatrists and two psychologis
ts who helped form BHP. He has written many of the pol-icies that guide the rev
iew process of outpatient therapy and day treat-ment. He is primarily responsib
le for the review of day treatment, chemical dependency treatment, various outp
atient therapies (individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy), psycho
logical testing, and specialized programs such as sex offender and eating disord
ers treatment programs.

Dr. Sethre is a member of the BHP Clinical Operations Committee and is co-chair
of the BHP Credentials Committee. Dr. Sethre also represents BHP on several Mi
nnesota Department of Human Ser-vices advisory committees.
2002 - Present Consultant, Diagnostic Evaluation Center (DEC). This specializ
ed crisis assessment unit was created by a collaboration between BHP and Fairvie
w Health Services. The DEC program is part of the emergency department (ED) of
a host hospital, and is staffed by a combination of ED staff provided by the hos
pital and mental health staff provided by BHP. The DEC staff consults with the
ED physician and staff to evaluate the needs of patients who present to the ED a
mental health crisis. If the patient is not in need of admission, the DEC staf
f will use an online scheduler developed by BHP which enables them to immed-iate
ly, including during evening and weekend hours, access mental health appointment
s with BHP providers. Dr. Sethre helped develop the DEC assessment protocol and
currently is co-chair of four quality oversight committees, one for each hospit
al system, which provides oversight to the DEC units and staff.
The DEC program has reduced the rate of psychiatric admissions from the Fairvie
w EDs by approximately 40%. There currently are six DEC units located at Fairvi
ew and HealthEast hospitals in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. BHP
received a national award for innovative mental health services for this program
in May, 2010.
1998 - Present Lead psychologist for a team of psychologists that provides week
end coverage for psychiatric consultations ordered for patients on general
medical units at three hospitals in the Fairview Hospitals System. Dr. S
ethre helped develop this program in response to the shortage of psychiatris
ts. Dr. Sethre and his team work with the attending physicians to help as
sess the mental health needs of patients on ICU, medical/surgical, and other
medical units to screen for whether a follow up visit by a psychiatrist is
needed, to provide brief therapy if indicated, and to help with referrals fo
r mental health services as part of the patients discharge planning.
1987 - 1998 Consultant, psychiatric units. Dr. Sethre provided psychological te
sting on hospital psychiatric units at the following hospitals: Fairview Univers
ity Medical Center, Fairview Southdale Hospital, St. Josephs Hospital, St. Johns
Hospital Northeast, Golden Valley Health Center, Abbott-Northwestern Hospital,
River Hills Hospital, and Divine Redeemer Hospital. During this period Dr. Seth
re did 200 to 300
inpatient assessments per year for general mental health units, chemical depende
ncy and eating disorders programs, and sexual addictions units.

1991 - 1994 Consultant, Professional Assessment Unit at Golden Valley Health Cen
ter. Dr. Sethre helped develop the psychodiagnostic assessment component of thi
s program This program referred professionals from all over the United States fo
r an intensive five-day, multidisciplinary assessment. Most of these profession
als were physicians. Dr. Sethre participated in over 80 of these assessments.

1987 - 1990 Clinical Psychologist, Twin Lakes Mental Health Center, Golden
Valley. Provided psychological testing, and individual and family therapies

1988 Clinical Psychologist, Childrens Hospital of St. Paul. Provided
psychological testing and family therapy as part of a multidisci- plinary
team that specialized in assessment and treatment of child- dren with Atten
tion Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders.
1987 Clinical Psychologist, affiliated with the Hanson-McCloud Neuro-
psychiatric Clinic. Provided psychological testing, and individual and family t
herapies.
1984 - 1986 Clinical Case Manager, Golden Valley Health Center, Golden Val
ley, working under supervision as part of the requirements for becoming lice
nsed as a psychologist. Dr. Sethre worked on the Adolescent Crisis Unit, t
he Adolescent Treatment Program, the Child Treatment Program, and the Eating
Disorders Unit.
1978 - 1980 Mental Health Technician, Metropolitan Medical Center, Minneap
olis, MN, Adult Crisis Unit and Adult Treatment Units.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
2003 Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: Advanced Seminar, a four day
program presented by the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, WI.
1997 - 1998 Advanced Clinical Training in Personality Disorders, a two-year
program sponsored by the Institute for Advanced studies in Personology and
Psychopathology, which is run by Theodore Millon, Ph.D.
1994 - 1995 Survey of Modern Psychoanalysis, an intensive one-year program spons
ored by the Minnesota Society for Contemporary Psychoanalysis.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS
1995 - 2002 Minnesota Rorschach Society, President or Secretary. Dr. Sethre fou
nded this organization to provide and promote the scientific use of the Rorschac
h based on recent research and theoretical advances. During Dr. Sethres term as
president, the groups membership reached over 80 psychologists in 5 states. Dr.
Sethre helped organize an annual workshop presented by leading Rorschach resear
chers and clinicians every year during this period.
2003 - 2006 President, Division of Doctoral Psychologists, Minnesota Psychologic
al Association (MPA). Under Dr. Sethres leadership the division grew from about
20 members to over 100, and it continues to be one of the largest and most acti
ve M.P.A. Divisions.
