Nuclear Energy Group and Concentrating Solar Boiler projects. Recognized as sub
ject matter expert on mechanical and metallurgical areas in B&W nuclear division
. Permanent Resident of the United States; willing to relocate. Core competenci
es include:
* Quality Assurance / Control * Excellent Team Builder and Team Player
* Materials Qualification and Processing * Chemistry: Corrosion, Electrochemist
ry
* Mechanical Testing: Fracture, Fatigue, etc * ASME / ASTM Standards
* Mechanical Design: AutoCAD, etc. * Finite Element Analyses: ABAQUS,
ANSYS, FORTRAN, C+
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
* Completed $1.5M+ project as Principal Investigator (B&W, 2005 to 2010).
* Key member of R&D proposal team (to DoE) for B&W Small Modular Reactor (SMR);
innovative design, cost effectiveness, and safety features made global headlines
. Key member of development team for B&W Concentrating Molten Salt Solar Boiler.
* Issued 5+ reports covering fracture, fatigue and corrosion issues in weld and
tubular metal on nuclear reactors and steam generators; provided technical suppo
rt to $200M+ in commercial contracts and revised shutdown procedures for Pressur
ized Water Reactors in case of potential fracture of weld metal caused by hydrog
en brittlement (B&W).
* Recognized for applying Computational Fracture Mechanics principles and Super-
Computer System into the engineering design. The computational analyses based on
fracture and fatigue mechanics reduced the number of expensive physical tests,
thus lowered the costs while improved the design safety for the US Army Corps of
Engineers (Cincinnati, 1999-2001).
* Succeeded in the composite manufacture project through testing, fracture and f
atigue analysis and coding optimization program. The number of expensive physica
l tests was reduced by 30%. Project was a success and attracted over $1M US doll
ars' investment from industries in Hong Kong (Hong Kong, 1997-1999).
* Designed and built first-of-its kind large-scale test system; pioneering the t
ri-axial stress test system for a Roller Compacted Concrete Dam. Project was awa
rded Chinese National Scientific and Technological Achievement Medal (China, 199
5).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), Barberton, OH 2005 - 2010
A global energy services company. Specializing in nuclear and fossil power gener
ation systems, and environmental control systems for fossil power plants for gov
ernment, large utility and industrial customers.
Principal Engineer, B&W Research Center
Performed and managed internal and external R&D projects supporting both interna
l and external B&W customers through the Materials Engineering Research Team. Id
entified R&D needs for operation divisions; Performed fracture, fatigue and corr
osion testing and analysis for both nuclear and fossil applications; Offered con
sultancy on structural issues (vibration control, tube pitting, etc) on scrubber
and nuclear steam generators.
* Authored fracture testing and analyses results cited by EPRI and US NRC (Nucle
ar Regulatory Commission) in setting hydrogen control guidelines for nuclear pow
er plants' shutdown process critical for safety. Awarded $280K+ from EPRI for th
is effort.
* Fatigue corrosion testing and analysis reports supported savings of $3M in lia
bility and reduced time spent on problem research and resolution by 3+ months.
* Key technical team member in seeking potential DoE funding in support of B&W's
Small Modular Reactor R&D efforts.
* Challenged with relocating testing laboratory while minimizing impact on custo
mers. This included: identifying obsolete equipment, revising floor plans, equ
ipment assembly, and troubleshooting. Relocation was made on-time and on-budget
.
* Saved $50K by negotiating critical testing equipment with vendors during labor
atory relocation and utilizing little known warranties on equipment repairs.
* Provided key technical support in bidding effort for commercial nuclear projec
t worth of $200M; exceptional knowledge, excellent personal relations skills, an
d ability to answer questions quickly and simply contributed to contract being a
warded.
