WORK EXPERIENCE
UEMSI, Menomonee Falls, WI 06/09 to Present
Electrical/Electronics Engineer - Currently working to prototype, perfect and te
st a JetCam reel control system that is part of a product for Jet/Vac trucks. T
his JetCam reel control system will give a truck operator the ability to electri
cally control a truck-mounted TV reel spooled with a video cable that has a comb
ination nozzle/camera called a JetCam attached to it. A water jet hose also att
ached to this JetCam runs alongside the video cable and the water jet hose is sp
ooled onto a separate capacity reel mounted on the truck. With this product the
truck operator can clean, vacuum up debris, and televise a pipeline in one pass
.
Soldered, wired and assembled electronic components on prototype boards. An Atm
el AVR ATtiny44 microcontroller is used to program C code written and compiled w
ith CodeVisionAVR compiler. AVR Studio 4 software is utilized to debug and prog
ram the microcontroller.
The AVR microcontroller pulse width modulates an N channel MOSFET to control the
speed of a DC motor. The PWM duty cycle is also displayed by the intensity of
an LED. The microprocessor employs an ADC converter to measure the position of
a speed potentiometer which is adjusted by the user. A PI controller is needed
to compensate for error based on the instantaneous current measured through a cu
rrent sense resistor. A Schottky diode across the motor is used to reduce induc
tive spikes. Observing the PWM voltage waveforms on an oscilloscope indicate th
at the speed control as adjusted by the user works as desired. The tension cont
rol portion of the project is currently in the research phase.
PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Synchronous Capacitance Meter Project: Independently designed, assembled, and t
ested electronic circuits prototypes that were incorporated into this four-perso
n group project. Tested and successfully completed a synchronous capacitance met
er that measures the capacitance value of any device under test. The meter was c
ompleted at a cost of $20. Project met all of the instructor's specifications.
Implement PID Controller by Analog Circuits Project: As part of a three-person
group, assembled an analog PID controller circuit to control the temperature of
the TCL board sensor's temperature. Designed the PID controller using given part
s. Tested the controller with the TCL board to achieve a fast response with abou
t 10% overshoot. Also produced a slower, but critically damped response as well
as a zero steady state error.
Dice-Rolling Game System Project: Helped design and assemble an automatic dice-
rolling game system. Designed subsystems that were implemented as Verilog code a
nd that were programmed onto at least 20 GAL chips with JED files using ispLever
. The game system operated successfully according to the rules of the game.
