Electrical Engineer with over 20 years experience at a highly automated precisio
n automotive parts manufacturer.
STRENGTHS
* PLC Programming - Siemens, A/B * Computer - Microsoft office
* Variable frequency drive (VFD) applications * CADD - Microstation
* Facility electrical design/planning * Automation design
* Electrical arc flash analysis * HVAC controls
* Data acquisition/SCADA * Visual Basic
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ZF Lemforder Corporation - Brewer, Me (1987 to 2010)
Senior Electrical Engineer
* Led the expansion and maintenance of the facility electrical system. This incl
uded the design and implementation of a 2000 kva electrical entrance as well as
directing the maintenance, upgrading and modification of the existing system and
researching alternative electrical energy suppliers. Responsible for seeing tha
t all electrical work was done to code.
* Researched, designed, justified and implemented several significant energy sav
ings projects. Examples:
* VFD and new PLC controls on cooling tower system - $30,000 per year in savings
* VFD for 200 HP air compressor - $20,000 per year in savings
* VFD and new controls for air makeup/heating units - $25,000 to $30,000 per yea
r savings
* New lighting and controls - $70,000 to $75,000 per year savings
* VFD and new PLC controls on overhead exhaust fans - $6,000 per year savings
* Designed and implemented a plant wide control system to monitor/control lights
, fans HVAC, cooling towers, air compressors and a wastewater evaporator. The sy
stem was able to collect usage data from many of the systems, which was useful i
n determining and justifying the payback on many projects.
* Performed an arc flash analysis for the entire plant and warehouse. This inclu
ded directing the collection of data for the all equipment, analyzing potential
short circuit currents and finally determining the potential arc flash energy at
each piece of equipment. The end result was a label on every piece of equipment
alerting the technician to the potential danger and informing him of the proper
PPE to wear.
* Recorded and analyzed all energy use data (electrical, natural gas, compressed
air) to determine possible areas for energy savings.
* Designed and implemented modifications to production equipment to improve the
manufacturing process, make the machine safer, allow for different products to b
e produced and to monitor critical parameters on the finished product.
* Developed Visual Basic program to analyze data to determine savings on energy
projects.
* Assisted maintenance technicians in troubleshooting difficult problems and dev
eloping improvements to prevent recurrence of breakdowns.
* Was a member of the Safety and Environmental Committee which reviewed all acci
dents and made recommendations for safety improvements. The committee also revie
wed environmental issues and made recommendations for recycling, reuse, eliminat
ion of harmful materials and proper disposal of all waste material.
