al Health, 2008 - 2009. Served as clinical supervisor on 36 bed inpatient, psyc
hiatric unit in an approximate 100 bed psychiatric hospital. Successfully super
vised licensed social workers, nurses, and psychiatric technicians to fulfill st
affing requirements, and maintain day to day operations of a busy psychiatric ho
spital. Developed and facilitated dual diagnosis program for the unit that cons
isted of mental health process groups and addictions psycho-educational groups t
hat operated throughout the day. Prepared staff for JCAHO compliance and readin
ess. While effectively managing and directing staff, maintained patient caseload
to assist with managed care recommendations for brief hospitalizations of patie
nts. Ensured brief hospitalizations that necessitated comprehensive discharge,
and aftercare planning. All discharge planning involved frequent interagency c

PROGRAM COORDINATOR AND FACILITATER FOR ADD/IOP PROGRAM AND EMERGENCY PSYCHIATRI
C SERVICES COUNSELOR a" Washington County Hospital, Behavioral Health Services,
January 2, 2002 a" November 6, 2007. From 1/02 a" 7/04, worked 20 hours in the
emergency room as an emergency psychiatric counselor with Emergency Psychiatric
Services. In addition to working in the ER, worked 20 hours managing and facil
itating the intensive, outpatient addictionas program (IOP). Effectively applie
d strategies and interventions for resolving all types of ER crises and critical
incidents in over-crowded ER that was frequently on red alert. Responded to em
ergent traumas and codes, and provided support to families of patients with seri
ous injury, illness, or death. ER counseling involved working with patients who
were victims of crime. Completed comprehensive psychiatric and substance abuse
assessments in the ER that required quick and accurate diagnoses with immediate
referral and admission to inpatient detox, and/or, inpatient, psychiatric hospit
alization. Beginning initial hire date, successfully managed and executed the A
DD IOP program. After 7/04, continued to fill in on a periodic, as needed basis
, in the ER. While managing and operating ADD IOP services, maintained mental h
ealth caseload for individual therapy and facilitated both the mental health pro
cess group and substance abuse group for the inpatient psychiatric unit. All ho
spital documentation entered electronically via the computer in meditech. Behavi
oral Health Services advanced to paperless charts. Trained ER staff to use ASAM
criteria, and personally responsible for making ASAM placement scale a permanent
part of the medical record for all patients with addictions issues. SAMIS liai

with the state of Maryland. Contributed substantially to successful JCAHO accre

n with mental health and substance abuse issues that had come into contact with

ncluded psycho-educational groups on parenting, life skills training and individ
ual and group treatment on dual diagnosis issues. The grant embodied a holistic
approach to treatment that allotted services for reunification of the family.
Couples and family counseling provided as well as education on addiction for th
e children who were age appropriate. Lastly, collected and consolidated program
matic data to fulfill grantee, quarterly reporting requirements. Program data a
nd statistics managed via computer software. Program operated and maintained un
der guidelines and regulations of COMAR. Exceeded program expectations by first
year.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH SPECIALISTa" EastRidge Health Systems, 1997 a" 1998. Solely
responsible for implementation of grant funded, outreach program targeting menta
l health and substance abuse services to pregnant, substance abusing women. Coo
rdination and community networking with hospitals, doctoras offices, maternity c
enters, hospitals, and other human service agencies was an essential marketing t
echnique that led to the success of the program. Other innovative marketing str
ategies included the development of brochures and flyers, utilization of the med
ia (radio, TV, and local newspaper), and utilizing other agencyas newsletters, e
tc. for dissemination of program information and services. Accurate records of
client outcomes who received program services were maintained in order to measur
e program effectiveness.
