This year’s programme is dedicated to the loving memory of John Daniels and
Paul Christian (aka Chris Jones), who both tragically passed away in December
2010. Me-FM presenters will be playing some tracks in recognition of the hard
work and dedication they both showed to Me-FM over the years.

Introduction
Me-FM is a pioneering and unique multi ethnic community radio station promoting cultural
diversity, learning & training opportunities, volunteering opportunities, social inclusion and
community development. Me-FM is a unique media and communication experience run by
Multi Ethnic Aberdeen Limited (MeAL).

Background
In May 2001, Me-FM successfully broadcasted for the first time via restricted service license
(RSL) for ten days on a 24 hour basis. Subsequently, Me-FM broadcasted for 28 days each
time in the month of May (4th to 31st) between 2002 and 2007. The station then went on to
broadcast in June for the first time in 2008 for 28 days. The station is running for the fourth
time during June in 2011. The radio station is run entirely by over 50 volunteers from diverse
backgrounds studying, working and living in Scotland.

Me-FM provides an entertaining, educative and informative blend of vibrant music and diverse
discussion programs celebrating the diversity of cultures making up the Northeast of
Scotland. In May 2002, Dave Loyden, one of Me-FM’s former volunteers, helped set a new
world Guinness book record (at the time) for a non-stop DJ radio stint of 73 hours and 30
minutes.

Key Aims & Objectives


• To promote Citizenship and Integration in Scotland.
• To educate, communicate, inform and entertain.
• To raise awareness and promote multiculturalism.
• To encourage volunteering.
• To help improve skills, build capacity and increase employment opportunities.
• To encourage and provide training & life-long learning opportunities.
• To give a voice to people who are not usually heard through providing ground
breaking coverage of issues \ programs in ethnic voices so often excluded from the
mainstream media and other arenas for public debate.
• To increase the visibility of multi ethnic communities.
• To help combat feelings of isolation.
• To promote harmonious race relations and equality of opportunity.
• To help raise the profile of multi ethnic communities, groups, organisations &
businesses.
• To use as a tool in urban regeneration and combat social exclusion.
• To provide a unique opportunity to showcase local talents and skills.
• To help encourage cultural diversity in mainstream media organisations.

Volunteers
Over 50 keen and committed volunteers from diverse social, cultural and educational
backgrounds are the backbone of Me-FM. Volunteers range from 5 to 70 years old
and come from different walks of life – students, doctors, lecturers, engineers,
housewives, business owners, hairdressers, artists \ performers, professional DJs,
journalists, social and community workers, IT & computer specialist, cleaners,
chefs... the list goes on!

Achievements
Some of Me-FM’s achievements to date include:-
• Dave Loyden’s non-stop DJ radio stint of 73 hours and 30 minutes gave us a place in
the Guinness Book of Records 2002
• John Daniels’ ‘The Rock’ show won the Andrew Cross Awards 2004 & 2005 under
the RSL, Hospital and Campus Radio Category
• Broadcasted worldwide to an audience of 75,000 worldwide in 2009
• Successfully launched internet broadcasting in May 2003
• Over 400 DJs, presenters, studio guests and helpers have been involved in a
volunteer capacity
• Over 150 local private, public and voluntary organisations in Aberdeen \
Aberdeenshire and across Scotland have taken part to date
• Around 350 volunteers \ participants have gained new skills \ increased their
employability

Music, mostly Dance, Dubstep and the latest sounds from the
charts. Requests and dedications are invited. Presented by DJ
Duncan.
1500 – 1700 iJolos Show – Featuring the four themes of the week which includes
Inspirational Summer, Party Remixes, Funny Parodies and Romance, join the
laughs and diverse conversations, hearing songs you never thought even
existed while judging our acting performances! Presented by Carlos
Sutherland and Joanne Eden.
1700 - 1900 Monday Ticket – Reviews of films, books and TV shows, interspersed with
the latest chart music! Presented by Nada and Robyn.
1900 - 2100 Hot Air – We want to know what you think on today’s hot topics. Join in the
discussion on 01224 641931. Presided over by Alan Parker.
2100 – 2300 Me-FM’s Open Mic – Live music to entertain you from local musicians with
Roni.
2300 – 0100 The Mixtape returns for its 4th year on Me-FM with its trademark irreverence
and eclecticism. Expect music from all over the genres and
decades with a smattering of wit, ineptitude and technical
difficulties. Hosted by Kyle Reid.

1100 – 1200 Citizenship with William Sharkey – Moral and Political Philosopher, William
Sharkey, discusses the more abstract issues surrounding Citizenship... often with
guests!
1200 – 1230 Youth and Languages Issues in Grampian Police – Featuring discussions about
the Grampian Police Young Runaways Service and dealing with young people who
run away from home or Children's Homes. Also featuring discussions with the
Youth Justice Management Unit with regard to dealing with young offenders. The
other topics are about diverse cultures in Aberdeen and the Grampian area.

1230 – 1300 Respect for All – A fresh look at equality.
1300 – 1330 Citizenship 4 U – A fresh look at Citizenship & Immigration issues. This project and
its actions were made possible due to co-financing by the European Fund for the
Integration of third-country nationals.
1330 – 1400 Fiesta Sa Nayon – Presented by Yoly Wilson (from the Filipino Community
Association Aberdeen) focusing on music, culture and tradition from the Philippines
and around the world.
1400 – 1500 Johnny Logan & DJ Ronnie presenting four decades of music.
1500 – 1600 “Adventures in Odyssey” – double episodes of adventure and action-packed
Christian radio drama prepared for children and adults alike. This is a practical
lesson programme by ‘Focus on the Family’, International Media (USA), which
parents can use to prompt family discussions and involvement.
1600 – 1800 Tuesday Nights With Johnny Logan - Playing Music from the magic 50s, 60s and
70s.

hits of Polish music: mainly from the 90’s and contemporary music, but not
exclusively. Presented by Lidia Konar.
1700 – 2000 Drive Time with Roni – Discussions, plays, and stories about anything and
everything!
2000 – 2200 Wicked Wednesday Mash Up - Featuring the very best in Bollywood,
Bhangra and Urban music, with studio guests. Presented by
DJ Maz.

2200 – 0100 Midweek Club Tunes - Build up for the weekend with all the greatest club

tragically passed away with Cancer. With live studio guests whose family
and / or friends have been affected by Cancer telling their individual
experiences of how it has impacted on their lives. The show also describes
the fantastic work of MacMillan Cancer Trust and the Highland Hospice, and
how they support people through the long term impacts of the condition.
Presented by David Forbes.
1500 – 1730 Wave of Music – Live music and not so live music incorporating rock, indie,
trance and dance. Cecilia and Mani present.
1730 – 1900 Romanians On Air – Lucia & Virgil Stoica presenting a chat show with
Romanian music, and news from Romania and Aberdeen.
1900 – 2000 Dads Group - with Ron Bird – A group of dads who get together to share
experiences and skills and knowledge of parenting as a mutual support
group, recognising that 50% of parents are men and taking that
responsibility in parenting which also helps with their relationships with
mums.
2000 – 2100 Tha’ Flava on Air – R’n’B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Dancehall and Rap with

1700 – 1800 Tha’ Flava presents Chilled Out Sunday – Tha’ Flava slows it down on

1800 - 2100 The Sunday Shuffle - A mixture of songs (old and new) presented by
Aaron Gordon.
2100 – 2200 A-Vision is coming this summer to give you a musical experience that will
make you feel good just before the weekend closes. Sit back and relax
before the new week begins. Presented by Mrs West.
2200 - 2300 DJ Ricochet - Presents Grime and Dubstep.

Tribute

This year’s programme is dedicated to the loving memory of John Daniels and
Paul Christian (aka Chris Jones), who both tragically passed away in December
2010. Me-FM presenters will be playing some tracks in recognition of the hard
work and dedication they both showed to Me-FM over the years.
