1992 - Present - Chaplain

APC board certified chaplain with more than 16 years of experience, seeking an o
pportunity to relocate to new challenges. A seasoned chaplain professional with
strong consensus building skills. Chaplain expertise in general visitation, sp
irituality research and spiritual assessment. Expert knowledge of computerizing
department work, working with spirituality and its effects on patient care and
the area of spiritual assessment of patients. Primary coverage has been Alcohol
and Drug inpatient and outpatient treatment, mental health inpatient treatment,
and Chronic Pain Treatment.
* Instigated use of spiritual assessment program on the Alcohol and Drug unit, C
hronic Pain team, Mental health, and Rehabilitation Unit.
* Led hospital in a variety of worship experiences related to traditional religi
ous experiences and also mission and values celebrations.

* Succeeded in the development of a clergy computer access system providing acce
ss for pastors, but keeping privacy and rights of patients in the forefront.
* Assessed and managed development of clinical notes for chaplains in hospital d
atabase program so chaplains can write notes about visits, mark sacramental need
s, and identify religious traditions.
* First chaplain to document electronically in the Marshfield Clinic and St.Jose
ph's Hospital combined medical record as a request from physicans and therapist
of the Marshfield Behavioral Health units comprising Mental Health and Alcohol a
nd Drug units.
* Developed spiritual clinical assessments for Combined Medical Record of St. Jo
seph's Hospital and the Marshfield Clinic.
1989 - 1992 - Assistant Pastor
Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rochester, Mn
Administered relgious rites and ordiances in a congregation of 1200 members. Re
sponsibilities included pastoral care visits to the hospital and shut-ins as wel
l as working with youth. Collaberated with the local Rochester ministerial asso
ciation on a number of social ministry projects for the food bank, World Day of
Prayer service, and ministry to the poor in the area through the Dorthoy Day hou

* Assisted with the integration of the congregational computer program for finan
ces, visitation and worship attendance.
* Instructed people who see conversion to faith in a new adult membership curric
ulum that helped to assimilate people into the parish more quickly.

* Managed the implementation of a new three year program of confirmation stressi
ng more practical parts of faith life with the traditional Lutheran catechism pr
ogram.
* Integrated a more contemporary service into the worship service by incorporati
ng parts of the Chicago Folk mass into a service.

congregational trends over the last 20 years, integrating new ways of welcoming

First pastoral parish in rural Minnesota. I was their first full time pastor in
their 70 year history. Brought many new experiences and growth to the congrega
tion which has since grown and expanded into a new parish building and added 75
families to their roles since I left.

Growth Self Study. They examined their history, their statistics, their goals,
direction for future, and needs for the future.
Worked with outpatient program from St. Cloud Mn to provide family spirituality

learning different phases of pastoral visits in a clinical setting. Primary uni
ts of learning included, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Liver Transplant, Alcohol
and Drug Unit, Cardiac Critical Care Unit, On-call, staff seminars, COMISS meeti
ng in Minneapolis.

A medical center with a intensive care, swing bed facility, Alcohol and Drug pro
gram, locked and unlocked psych unit, and rehabiltation recovery unit. I did wo
rship once a week, was able to pick up some on-call as contracted by the chaplai
n chief when needed, worked with 5th steps for alcoholics, interdisciplinary car
e conferences for patients and families, attended VA teleconference seminars.

The Society for Spirituality, Theology and Health is a multidisciplinary profess

is to stimulate research and education, to connect people with one another, and
to help to integrate and interpret the research findings for applications in he
alth care and public health. We invite membership from colleagues from around th
e world, and current membership includes academic researchers, clinicians, theol
ogian and other clergy, lay persons and interested individuals in the area of re
ligion/spirituality, theology and health. The annual meeting of the Society is d
esigned to bring together transdisciplinary scholars and interested physicians,
