Guiding Purpose of our PDs: Having professional development is not a virtue. It is a means to accomplish a purpose. This purpose must be to help students achieve
academically. It must focus on the right things as identified by a number of scholars: 1) What is it we want our students to learn? 2) How will we know if each student has learned
it (ELL, RSP, SPED, Gifted, Regular)? 3) How will we respond when some students do not learn it? 4) How can we extend and enrich the learning for students who have
demonstrated proficiency? (Elmore, 2003; Garmston & Wellman, 1999; Fiske, 1992; DuFour, DuFour, Eaker, & Karhanek 2004)
