MICROSOFT INTERNAL SUPPORT INFORMATION

BUG #: 100716 (Content Maintenance) BUG #: 154 (AXSE) BUG #: 92832 (Content Maintenance) RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THE INFORMATION THAT IS CONTAINED HEREIN IS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, OR IS INTENDED TO SUPPLEMENT OTHER KNOWLEDGE BASE INFORMATION. This article applies to Microsoft Dynamics AX for all regions.

SYMPTOMS
When you use a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 client, the client unexpectedly stops responding. This problem occurs if many clients are opened or closed at the same time. This problem occurs if you use one of the following products:

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 with Service Pack 1

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the new SYSUTILELEMENTSLOG feature in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 traces the usage of features inside Microsoft Dynamics AX during log on, log off and every 15 minutes. Because of this, there are many updates to the SysUtilElementsLog table. Therefore, the clients stop responding due to a very heavy contention.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, you can apply this hotfix or change the SysUtilElementsLog table in the Application Object Tree (AOT) into a temporary table. If you change the SysUtilElementsLog table in the Application Object Tree (AOT) into a temporary table, the SysUtilElementsLog table will be memory resident and not exist in the database. Additionally, the object usage information will not be saved to the database. Therefore, this change basically disables the tracking of object usage functionality. To change the SysUtilElementsLog table in the Application Object Tree (AOT) into a temporary table, follow these steps: 1. Click Application Object Tree . 2. Expand Data Dictionary , expand Tables , and then scroll down to the SysUtilElementsLog table. 3. Right-click the SysUtilElementsLog table, and then click Properties . 4. In the Temporary field, change the value from No to Yes . 5. Click Save all to save the changes. After you do this, the SysUtilElementsLog table will be dropped from the SQL/Oracle database, and will be referenced as a memory-based table.

Objects that are affected

This hotfix affects the following objects:

\Data dictionary\Extended data types\sysutilelementslogfrequency \Data dictionary\Tables\sysutilelementslog \Reports\Sysutilelementslog

MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 can track object usage within the application. You can use this to determine which customized objects are not used, and determine whether these customized objects should be moved into the next version of Microsoft Dynamics AX. This will help code upgrades in the future. The information is stored first on the client, and the SysUtilElementsLog table is updated when any of the following events occur:

15 minutes elapses. A Microsoft Dynamics AX client is opened or closed.
