Learning objectives

: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. Share their opinion about the picture shown and respond to the question given by the teacher appropriately. (SetInduction ) 2. Asking their friends and give responds politely by asking and answering question pertaining the characteristic that they have to find. (While Reading ) 3. Skim and scan the notes given by the teacher by answering at least 4 out of 5 questions in the worksheet accurately. (While Reading)

4. Describe and write about the characters that they like and gave appropriate reasons to their answers. (Pre-reading) 5. Dramatize the play creatively and imaginatively in groups. (Post Reading)

PREREADING (15 MINUTES)

With their group members, students are asked to discuss the characteristic of the characters that they like by writing it in a piece of paper. 4. Students are given 10 minutes to discuss. 5. Teacher calls out a representative from each group and read out on what they have discussed to the whole class. To provide language preparation to the text.

POSTREADING (25 MINUTES)

Appendix 3 Handout List characteristic of the character in the drama Gulp and Gasp. Lord Septic  A rich and cruel man. p Hes a very mean and cruel. His speech and action reflect his cruelty. He treats Crouch very badly by calling him names like fool, dim, daft, dopey, dozey and dippy. p Being a rich man, he looks down on people. He orders Rose to be thrown away from the platform for selling her flowers. He even called Rose a beggar. p When Rose threatens to tell the bad things Lord Septic has done, he did not hesitate to throw and tied Rose to the railway tracks to be run over by the train.  Greedy p He wants more and more wealth even thought he is already rich with all his fortune. Not only that hes willing to kill someone for money. p He only marries his wife for her money but not for loving her. p He aims to be the richest man in the land by finding the Gatsby Gold.  Tight-fisted p He does not care for his worker of his factory. He did not pay their wages or keep the matches safe because it will cost him money. p He also makes the worker work for long hours. Crouch  Obsequious p He is willing to please and humor his boss and agrees to almost everything he says. p He also readily takes the verbal abuse by Lord Septic. p He is willing to kill Rose because Lord Septic asked him to do it.  Mean and cruel bully p He bullies Rose and throws away her tray of flowers across the platform. p He enjoys the time given by his master to chase and bully Rose.  Sardonic and witty p He has a sense of dry humor and is rather sarcastic to Lord Septic. p He also jokingly asks Lord Septic if he married his wife

Clora for her arms  Hungry for power p He was happy when Lord Septic gave him power to throw Rose away from the platform from selling her flowers. Rose  Blind p Due to the accident that has happened to her at the match factory where the smoke has hurt her eyes, it has turned her into blind girls.  Brave, strong and courageous p She sells flowers to help her ailing mother. p She dares to go to the platform alone to sell her flowers even though its already late at night. p She does not give up when Crouch order her to go away and leave the platform. p She confronts Lord Septic by telling him that he is responsible for her blindness and the health of her ailing mother. p She threatens to expose Lord Septic to the Evening News.  Kind and caring p She tries to earn money for herself and her mother. p She is willing to go without food for three days just to buy pills for her mother.  Dignified p She finds ways to survive. p Although she is blind, she did not beg but rather sells flowers to earn her living. Percy  Brave and heroic p He sympathizes with Rose when he hears of how she lost her sight and has to sell flowers for a living. p He decided to protect Rose when he tells her that she needs someone like him to look after her. p He stops the express train at all cost and save Roses life. p He shares his gold with Rose and wants her to use to treat her eyes and help her mother.  Helpful p Percy helps rose to pick up her flower that has been thrown by Crouch. p He console Rose and promise to protect her. p He thinks of a way to help save Rose when Lord Septic and Crouch tied her to the railway track.

 Compassionate p He has compassion to Rose when he hears her hardship. p He gave half of his gold to help Rose to see again.
