American Standards Requirements on reels

Each end of the cable shall be firmly and properly secured to the reel Reels shall be shipped with both flanges oriented vertically The reels shall be lagged or covered with suitable material to provide physical protection for the cables during transit and during ordinary storage and handling operation Reel construction and dimensions shall comply with NEMA WC-26

NEMA WC-26 STEEL REELS CLASSIFICATIONS:


RM constructed with fat bar tires and shall be for general purpose applications

RMT : Utilize I-beam tires, shall be for heavy-duty applications

RMT REELS CONSTRUCTION :


A. Welding requirements for HD reels :
1. head sheet to tire 2. head sheet to inner ring 3. Drum to inner ring 4. cross arm to cross arm 5. Cross arm to inner ring 6. Cross arm to hub 7. Back-up plate to hub and cross arm 8. Port frame All should be continuous weld. All welds shall reflect good welding practice with proper penetration.

B. For added stability, Two reinforcing angles , each 2 X 3 X .25 inch may be welded 180 degrees apart at the junction of the short and long cross arms and Spanning the traverse of the reel.
C. The holes, if necessary, shall be in the flat portion of the head sheet. D. There shall be no holes in the flute itself.

E. The minimum diameter of the reels shall be in accordance with the following table : F. Minimum reel drum ( barrel ) :

Important specifications for cable reels include :

Flange diameter, Core diameter, Inside traverse, The outside diameter of the cable to be carried on the reel, and The length of the cable to be carried on the reel.
