Each piece is specially designed to bring the best of the nature to the clients and make them glow no matter the occasion. About us Commitment We are passionate for nature and for fashion. Our work involves a high standard product process and a monitoring system in order to maintain our standard of quality. Also our company is highly conscious of the environment and sustainable development. Ecological and social responsibility goes further for us than purely environmental impact. Our approach is to work in partnership with our suppliers based on transparency, respect and continuous improvement. One of our key partners is consisted for small communities of artisans from the north of Brazil. Through our partnership we have created a huge opportunity to mix fashion and nature responsibly, and also to promote the work of these communities to the world. All the materials used for the production of our jewellery are certified and guaranteed free from the illegal exploitation of any natural resource and from the use of child labour. Eco friendly Golden grass - Syngonanthus nitens - is a unique and pure renewable vegetable that only grows on the north of Brazil in Jalapo region. It is the thin and resistant stem of a small white flower from the always-alive family with intense metallic shine that we use to design our jewellery with other stones and natural metals. In the flower are found the seeds that guarantee the perpetuation of the plant and income for hundreds of Jalapo families. The curious about golden grass is that it can only be harvested once a year, after seed maturation to ensure the continuity of the specie, what makes our jewelleries more unique and precious. All of our partners are trained and certified to proceed into these rules.

Jalapo region Jalapo is a state within the Cerrado and also a national protected reserve in the central-north of Brazil. The isolated area is composed of sandy soils and looks like a savanna ecoregion or a desert, except for its numerous watercourses that creates beautiful waterfalls and houses a diverse flora and fauna. The region has become a great place to tourism for its wild and extravagant landscapes and its leisure options close to nature. This recent increase of tourism has contributed to the economy of Jalapo which is largely based on subsistence agriculture. Yet, in the city of Mateiros where the golden grass weaving tradition finds its origins, more than 80% of the population is in poverty according to IBGE, the Brazilian Census, in its last Map of Poverty and Inequality in 2003. Golden grass handicrafts have become an important source of income for the local communities. The earnings from these products can increase the average income to two times the Brazilian minimum wage, a substantial amount for this rural area. Moreover, it has provided a steady source of income to the women of the region, where the available activities such as farming, road construction and house building were typically temporary and carried out by men. It has also allowed these women to work from their homes, pacing the work to their own rhythm while taking care of their families and housework. The process The art of working with golden grass was taught to local women by Mrs. Mida, a matriarch of the town of Mumbuca, municipality of Mateiros. Previously, the technique was passed by indigenous who inhabited the region to Mrs. Midas grandmother and then to her mother. Today, the techniques of golden grass handicraft are still taught from generation to generation in the village of Mumbuca and also in the cities of Mateiros and others.

The Story The idea to create Art Hands came in 2004 from the passion of its founder Alex Lemos for the beauty of the nature on unusual handcrafts. After some time of research he found in golden grass the inspiration to create a new line of sustainable jewelleries and to found his brand. Aiming for large markets, he saw in Europe the opportunity to spread his concept and the shine of his natural collection. In 2008 Art Hands was presented to the European market in special events focused on the jewellery and luxury trinkets accessories. The company has continued to expand, and its global presence now stretches many countries as Ireland, France, England and Brazil. In 2010, Art Hands launched its first exclusive collection in Dublin, Ireland. Since then, the company has experienced increasing sales through its website and great feedback of its clients.
