The story of one young inventor

This is the wonderful story about an young inventor. Being a mathematical wizard, he is the attention of every one in his class. He had many ideas in his mind but never exposed to any one fearing that the other will not believe in his theories. However things changed all on a sudden. All happened at the time when he was asked by his professor to design a circuit to light up a white LED from a single 1.5 V dry cell. It was a lab assignment. Being a mathematical wizard, he tried to solve the problem mathematically of course with the help of his electrical engineering background. He designed the cct as shown in figure 1 - VR R1 LED 1.5V I VD= 3V +

Vbty + VRe s + VLED = 0

where VBTY = 1.5 V, VLED = 3.0 Volts. Now solving the equation 1, we get a value of 1.5

MAGIC TRIANGLE

The voltage across the resistor can be calculated by the magic triangle. For this the current through the resistor is to be known. Assuming a current of 30 ma, and by applying the Polarity as per the schematic, we get R = -1.5/0.03 = -50 ohms. It is his professor who first felt the talent of this young hero. After going through the LED circuit assignment paper, the professor could not believe his eyes. The professor hugged this young chap and said, You are great. Look at what you have invented- A negative resistor!! Keep it up my boy On reaching home the boy started thinking. What will happen if a negative resistor is connected across a rechargeable battery? He quickly drew the circuit and analysed. Fantastic!! Instead of expected discharge through the resistor, battery was found to be charging by supplying a current from the negative resistor!!

Negative resistor -R V

A negative resistor charges the battery without a power source Suddenly One Other idea was crept into his mind; making of a conductor into a super conductor! A conductor becomes super conductor if a negative resistor of which the absolute (|R|) value is equal to the total resistance is connected in series!! What a remarkable finding! He thrilled and overjoyed. The young SWL could not sleep in that night. Early morning he rushed to his professor and shared his ideas with him. Professors eyes bulged out when he heard al these ideas from the student. He almost cried, Now only thing left is to find a way to make a negative resistor. The young SWL could interpret the body language of the professor. He replied Yes Sir, it is possible. We can construct a negatives resistor, I went through the semiconductor physics text and it says negative assistance is a real thing in tunnel diodes. Here is a publication about this. He showed a copy of the technical paper published in the year 2998 [1].

Professor was flat! He got jealous on this talented student and expelled his from his college. This was the beginning.. References: 1. A.L.L APR1L & F0OL S, Negative resistance and its application in semiconductors, Online Journal of the MARS, Vol. 3 p 101-121, 2998.
