Kate, Lindsay and Emily have really nailed it with this EP. They rock as hard as they sparkle. The opening track, Serious, kicks open the door to the saloon with a glittering stiletto heel and demands your attention. The vocals have a gutsy, no-nonsense air that glints with a devilish sense of fun. These gals arent staying in for a romantic evening, theyre going out and making headlines on TMZ! But dont think Lucy Angel is a wildfire that only burns hot and out of control. These women can sizzle with a quiet intensity, too. There is far more to this impressive family than heat and attitude. Color Love Blue is a bittersweet portrait rendered in a comforting wash of pastel vocal tones and soothing harmonies. Not to be overshadowed by the natural beauty and raw talent of Lucy Angel, the songwriters deliver their share of incredibility to this project, as well. The lyrics are crisp, image-oriented phrases which deftly capture a mood while propelling the story ever forward.

BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL, Young has once again employed his impressive wizardry for creating vast soundscapes of lush washes accentuated by delicate, glittering techno-curios to create even more glorious tonal realms. Alligator Sky is a prime example of the magic on this album. Fantastic lyrical imagery melds with a tumbling cavalcade of synth swells, blips, and a spine-bouncing groove that is peppered with the snap of Shawn Chrystophers rap. The warm, smile-inducing optimism of Honey And The Bee creates a delightful escape. The opening acoustic guitar line is strengthened by a chime-like piano figure in much the same way the two vocals on this track compliment each other. January 28, 1986 will bring a chill to your flesh before it crossfades into the spirited, thump-thump and da-da-da-da of Galaxies. Another highpoint is Deer In The Headlights. Cling To Me awakens like a quiet whisper on Sunday morning and crescendos into a passionate declaration of strength and a sincere offering of self. At the chorus, Jennings vocals take flight and soar with a reassuring majestic grace to create perhaps the most poignant moment on the album. Often, Jennings pens her lyrics more like a novelist than a s o n g w r i t e r, o p t i n g t o d e l i ve r precise meaning with a complex string of multisyllabic words rather than falling back on the moon/ june clich. This practice allows her to pack an incredible amount of details into her writing. Jennings vision of Dave Grohls Everlong is simply jaw dropping. Youd have to listen long and hard to find another cover (of any song) so impressively fresh and original, yet so absolutely true to the song. COLLAPSE, COLLIDE is a stronger, more confident Jennings. Her piano is lush and her vocals reside in a wonderful deep register that gives her songs guts and gusto.
