ANALOG AND DIGITAL TV TRANSMITTERS WITH IOT TECHNOLOGY

With the digital future in mind, our transmitters are designed for both digital and analog terrestrial broadcasting. Electrosys IOT analogue transmitters can be easily upgraded to ATSC and DVB-T/H thanks to its own Multimode exciter, protecting your investments for the future. Electrosys presents its third generation of very high output power UHF TV transmitters utilizing the latest Inductive Output Tube (IOT) technology. Electrosys IOT transmitters feature an innovative design, excellent performance, high efficiency and proven reliability; exceeding the requirements of the worlds most demanding broadcasters. The transmitters operate in UHF band IV/V, with available output power classes up to 70kW for analog TV, up to 20kW for DVB-T/H, and up to 30kW for ATSC. For scientific applications transmitters operating at 500MHz and 1,3GHz are also available, with output power up to 80kW cw and 15kW cw respectively. The state-of-the-art and reliability of these transmitters is guaranteed by Electrosys vast experience in RF systems, know-how in implementation of sophisticated technologies, and expertise in digital signal processing, which ensures a competitive edge on our customers. One outstanding feature of these transmitters is their Multi-Standard Capability which makes them compatible with analog and digital television system. The transmitters are practically the same for analog and digital (DVB-T/H, ATSC 8VSB) broadcasting. It is possible to switch from one standard to the other by simply selecting the mode on the exciters control display. This allows to switch between analog and digital broadcasting service at any time. In the development phase, particular attention has been given to the realization of equipment provided with a remote management system which, besides allowing the verification of the correct operation, allows to carry out remote diagnoses on possible problems. Additional features are small size, simple installation, ease maintenance, low operating costs. The introduction of the Depressed Collector technolo-

gy allows us to further reduce the power consumption of the transmitter in all operational modes, with impressive reduction in digital transmission. The Electrosys IOT transmitter design ensures maximum safety conditions for the personnel and the equipment itself. A safety micro-switch prevents access to the HV region of the IOT tube assembly while the transmitter is switched on. The system architecture includes dual drive, passive reserve and active reserve configurations. The realization of active reserve systems, with both coaxial switches and switchless RF combiners, and the possibility to combine two or more transmitters, allows us to obtain impressive output powers for both TV broadcasting and scientific applications.

MULTIMODE EXCITER (MEX)

Multimode is the State-of-The-Art Exciter capable of all modulation modes by means of fully digital signal processing. Only by changing the modulator card firmware, the exciter can implement analog TV (all standards), DVB-T/H, ATSC 8VSB and can operate in dual cast. Using the MEX dual cast transmitter is very simple: it is possible to switch between digital and analog TV transmission by a simple software command (locally by means of keyboard or remotely by using HTTP web browser, SNMP or Electrosys proprietary control software).A wise use of the latest technologies, in particular the innovative single chip Modulator and the I/Q direct modulator, have enabled us to significantly reduce the complexity and to increase the reliability of the exciter. The exciter performs the analog TV, DVB-T/H and ATSC modulation, fully compliant with the related transmission standards. Output power is 1Wrms for

DVB-T/H and ATSC, and 5Wps for analog TV, appropriate for high power RF amplification. In order to improve the transmitter RF characteristics, a digital pre-equalization is performed to compensate for the linear antenna filter distortions and a digital pre-correction for the non-linear final HPA distortions. In DVB-T/H mode the pre-correction set up can be manual or automatic; in ATSC mode both pre-equalization and pre-correction can be manual or automatic. An integrated GPS receiver is available when the exciter is used in DVB-T/H Single Frequency Network. The exciter is equipped with a control unit that allows commands, configuration and parameters monitoring locally, by means of a LCD display, and remotely by means of web server and SNMP protocols. Moreover, the remote control supports TFTP and Telnet protocols for service operations, including the remote firmware upgrade of all the exciter digital parts.

HIGH POWER AMPLIFIER

DRIVER POWER AMPLIFIER Electrosys solid state driver power amplifiers feature high linearity and high gain. The modules use Class AB amplification for analog and digital TV signals. The amplifiers are broadband covering the full 470-860 MHz UHF range without a requirement for tuning or adjustments. Each module has its own blower, built-in switch mode power supply and is self-protected against over-temperature, over-current, overdrive and high reflected power. Modules are field repairable and hot-pluggable allowing safe removal and insertion without interrupting transmitter operation. HIGH POWER FINAL AMPLIFIER (HPA) The high power final amplifier includes Inductive Output Tubes (IOT) from multiple suppliers, operating over the complete UHF bandwidth in class AB amplification for TV analogue/digital transmission and in class B or C for scientific application. The IOT is mounted in a cavity assembly which basically consists of one input cavity and two coupled output cavities, focusing coil, HV and low voltage connections, liquid and air connections, tuning indicators and safety devices. The complete IOT assembly is easily removed from the transmitter on its wheeled carriage when service is required. No routine adjustment of the cavity is necessary and only minor adjustment is required when the tube is replaced. The advanced control system provides for a soft start, ramp-up of the RF drive to the IOT on start-up. For protection of the tube grid, HV and RF are interlocked so that a loss of the HV disables the RF drive. An RF output filters system eliminates harmonic and out of channel radiations ensuring superb spectrum purity. The connection between IOT output cavity and the RF system is fitted with a coaxial quick connector, allowing easy engagement and disengagement of the IOT assembly from the transmitter without dismantling the RF output system.

POWER SUPPLY
The internal, key interlocked Mains Control System provides AC power distribution and control to the various power supply units via protective circuits. All effective voltages and currents of the various power supplies are measured, displayed and adjusted by the control logic unit. The high voltage (HV) beam power supply for the IOT HPA, ultra-compact in size, is housed and safety key locked in separated enclosures within the back of the driver cabinet. You can choose between a linear and a switch-mode beam power supply. The HPA cabinet enclosure contains in its back the power supply units for the IOT electrodes (filament heater and ion pump). SWITCH-MODE - HIGH VOLTAGE BEAM POWER SUPPLY (S-HVPS) The S-HVPS allows for regulation (within 1%) and instantaneous control of the DC beam voltage, without the need of external voltage regulators and input AC step-start function. In the event of a tube arc, the SHVPS system controller will immediately remove the beam voltage before the arc can cause any damage, thus eliminating the need for crowbar protection circuit. The 1620kHz switching frequency reduces size and weight of the required high voltage transformer to a minimum. The input AC voltage to the S-HVPS is converted into an unregulated DC voltage by a simple three-phase full bridge SCR rectifier. The DC-DC converter unit then converts the unregulated low DC voltage into a regulated high DC voltage. The output voltage is sampled and feedback to the S-HVPS controller which provides precise control of the output voltage by acting on solid state (IGBT) switches. The SCR rectifier also provides a soft start for the HV power supply, reducing inrush current and eliminating high voltage overshoot, that stress HV components. LINEAR HIGH VOLTAGE BEAM POWER SUPPLY (L-HVPS) The L-HVPS consists of HV transformer (mounted on a wheeled frame), HV rectifier, smoothing circuit assembly, HV limiter, and Thyratron crowbar. An SCR electronic breaker provides a soft start for the HV power supply. The reliable high speed Thyratron crowbar circuit protects against tube arcs. Status information and control of the crowbar assembly are provided by a dedicated control unit, which also includes a trip count indicator. A special test circuitry checks the availability of the crowbar. The SCR electronic breaker controller disables the HV power supply in case the crowbar fires, avoiding any electromechanical breaker tripping.

TRANSMITTER CONTROL LOGIC

The control logic unit manages transmitter monitoring, control, diagnostic and both internal and external communication. The status of the transmitter and of its major subassemblies is displayed locally in a graphical and numerical format on the control

l o g i c u n i t L C D d i s p l a y. M o r e o v e r, h i s t o r y o f transmitter alarms and status is stored in a control logic unit software database. The Electrosys Supervisory System, with its Windows based software, enables a sophisticated and user-friendly remote control and management of the transmitter via a standard telephone network or an IP network. The ESS version for telephone network sets a point to point connection between the transmitter and the remote control centre by means of a GSM or PSTN modem connected to the RS232 interface of the control logic unit. The ESS version for IP networks (Ethernet 10/100) enables the remote control of the transmitter from one or more control centres simultaneously with application protoc o l s H T T P, S N M P, T E L N E T.
