Kids Message The Party Invitation (Based on Luke 14:16-24) When Jesus was here on earth, he told stories. Some of these stories were parables. That means they did not really happen, but that he had a lesson in the story that He wanted to teach us. In this parable today, Jesus wants to teach us a lesson. One day, there was a man who decided to have a hugh banquet. So he began all the preparations. It takes a lot of work to have a big dinner. First you will send out all the invitations to invite all your friends, family, and church people. You hope they all will come and enjoy your big dinner. You have to plan the meal, purchase all the ingredients, and cook or bake the food making sure nothing overcooks. Then, you decide how you will serve the dinner. The table must be set (Have a table setting prepared with some really good punch). A punch that I really like that you will get to try today is made with pop and sherbet ice-cream. It is delicious! (Pour a glass of it and set on the table). Having a party is a lot of hard work. You may even put up some decorations. (Set a vase of flowers on the table). This man in this story had everything all ready for his party. He called all the guests to come, (Ring the bell) but guess what happened? No one showed up to the party. So he got on the telephone and asked them, Hey, are you coming to my dinner party? In this story, the first person responded, I have just purchased some land and have to check it out. Another one said, I have just purchase some animals and want to try them out. Another one said, "I am getting married, so I cannot come." The host was feeling pretty bad by this time. No one wanted to come to his party so he thought of something else. He called the homeless shelter, the bums, the ones who stand on the street with a sign saying Help me and urged them to come to his dinner party. They all started coming and he said to them, Do you have any other friends who would like to come; we have more than enough food for them. So, more came until his dinner house was so full with everybody eating the good food that he had prepared. They were having a wonderful time!

Jesus is calling us to a party. This party will be in heaven some day for all those who have confessed their sins and asked Jesus into their hearts. He invites each one of you to come. He will not make you or force you, but desire you to come. When you tell him, I am not ready to come to you, Jesus, he is sad. One day, he will take all those who have lived for him to heaven and then it will be too late for anyone else to attend His party. Why not give your heart to Jesus now while there is time? Give an invitation for the kids to say the salvation prayer. It is as simple as ABC. Admit you are a sinner, Believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and Confess those sins to Him. In faith, he will forgive every child that comes to him.

Bible Game (Good to verify comprehension and listening skills) Draw a really large birthday cake. Using markers the kids will add a candle for each correct answer. Allow the boys to use one color and the girls another. See who gets the most candles on the cake. Begin with the boys asking them a question. If they get the correct answer, allow them to draw one candle on the cake. If they answer incorrectly, the girls get to answer and then they get their own questions. That would give them two candles on that turn. 1. What did we hear today a parable or a true story? Answer: Parable 2. What was the man in the parable planning on having? New Memory Verse Game: Then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty (John 6:35). Write one word inside cupcake paper holders. Have two children come up to the party table and put the verse in the correct order. See who does it the quickest and have everyone clap for the winner giving either a sticker or a small piece of candy for great participation.

Ice Cream Facts: 1. The ice cream cone's invention is linked to the 1904 World's Fair in St.

Louis. An ice cream vendor reportedly didn't have enough dishes to keep up with the demand, so he teamed up with a waffle vendor who rolled his waffles into cones! 2. The U.S. enjoys an average of 48 pints of ice cream per person, per year, more than any other country. Maybe we should make ice cream the fifth food group! 3. In 2003, Portland, Oregon bought more ice cream per person than any other U.S. city. Looks like everyone else has a lot of catching up to do!
