V5R20 SIMULIA Design Analysis FACT SHEET

Introduction Whats New at a Glance Overview Detailed Description

INTRODUCTION The V5R20 Design Analysis solutions include enhancements to the traditional CATIA Analysis products and introduces three new SIMULIA products: Nonlinear Structural Analysis (ANL), Thermal Analysis (ATH), and Rule Based Meshing (RBM). ANL and ATH extend the existing linear analysis capabilities of CATIA Analysis to enable nonlinear and thermal analysis based on Abaqus FEA technology. The combined CATIA Analysis and the SIMULIA Extended Analysis product suites have been developed for designers and engineers who need to accurately size their designs and quickly evaluate their real world performance during the design phase. To access the basic nonlinear and thermal analysis capabilities included in ANL and ATH, users must first be working with Generative Part Structural Analysis (GPS), the backbone product to the CATIA V5 Analysis offering.

Introduces SIMULIA Nonlinear Analysis to Extend CATIA V5 Analysis Capabilities New to SIMULIA V5R20 is the product Nonlinear Structural Analysis (ANL). ANL models the effects of large displacements, highly deformable materials, and contact interactions between parts. Introduces basic thermal analysis functionality Also new to V5R20 is the product Thermal Analysis (ATH). ATH enables the temperature distribution in a part or an assembly to be determined, allowing designers to understand the thermal behavior of their designs. Enables Thermal Stress Analysis ATH and ANL can be used in combination to study the structural behavior of parts and assemblies subjected to thermal loading. An ATH temperature field can also be used to drive a thermal-stress analysis in CATIA Analysis DETAILED DESCRIPTION Enhancements to traditional CATIA Analysis products Improved Analysis of Composite Materials: V5 analysis capabilities enable users to simulate the structural integrity of composite layups defined in CATIA Composite Design (CPD). Improvements in simulation post-processing capabilities enable ply-per-ply post-processing of analysis results using ply names. This improvement reinforces the focus of V5 on delivering a complete composites solution for design-analysis-manufacturability.

CATIA - Generative Part Structural Analysis 2 (GPS)
Elfini batch computations in ENOVIA: This extends the CATUtil/AnalysisBatchUpdate

capability that is currently available for files stored outside of ENOVIA. CATAnalysis can now run on an ENOVIA server and can be updated in batch mode.
Animation of images across analysis cases: This enhancement allows comparison of a model

under various conditions of loading within the animation mode.

Improvement in automatic naming: In the Tools-Options-Analysis menu, an option is

available to automatically name mesh parts, properties, and groups. In Release 20, this function is enhanced to include the product name in the mesh part name for better identification. CATIA - Generative Dynamic Response Analysis 2 (GDY) Display and animation of complex values: This release improves overall interpretation and visualization of complex results.
Complex values are now extracted from results after all combination and filtering operations

are completed, diminishing the introduction of numerical errors during processing. You can now visualize the results at a given phase (modulus with phase). Animations of complex values now take the phase into account.

SIMULIA Nonlinear Structural Analysis (ANL) ANL extends the capabilities of GPS to include more advanced analysis effects, such as large displacements and permanent material deformation. Material plasticity, typical of metals, can be modeled, as well as the nonlinear elasticity in hyperelastic materials like rubber. ANL also provides more advanced contact capabilities, such as friction at contacting surfaces and the automatic detection of contact surfaces based on their proximity. Benefits of using ANL include: Models the permanent deformation of materials. Includes the effects of large displacements and rotations. Able to model the nonlinear elasticity of rubber and other hyperelastic materials. Multiple sequential loadings made possible through multi-step analysis. Provides advanced contact capabilities, such as friction at contacting surfaces. Product Engineering Optimizer (PEO) workbench in V5 can be used with ATH and ANL to optimize a desired model parameter. SIMULIA Thermal Analysis (ATH) ATH extends the capability of GPS, allowing designers to understand the thermal behavior of their designs. The steady-state or transient temperature distribution can be calculated in response to the direct heating of a surface, the flow of a fluid past a surface, or the specified temperature of the surface. The thermal material properties can be temperature dependent. When analyzing assemblies, the conductivity across the interface between contacting parts can be specified. When ATH is used together with ANL, a new category of thermal-stress analysis becomes available. A

thermal analysis can be followed by a structural analysis to determine the structural response to a varying temperature field. Benefits of using ATH include: The temperature distribution in a part or assembly can be calculated. The steady-state or transient thermal response can be determined. Material properties can be temperature dependent. The conduction of heat between parts in an assembly is allowed. Thermal-stress analysis is available when ATH and ANL are used together. SIMULIA Rule Based Meshing (RBM) RBM extends the capabilities of CATIA meshing tools (FMS) and enables analysis experts to capture their knowledge as meshing rules to automate the creation of high quality surface meshes for all CATIA Analysis workflows. Once the complete set of meshing rules has been specified, no additional user involvement is necessary, as the actual mesh generation is completely automated. For instance, the mesh can automatically account for holes, fillets, and other geometric features in a model. This rule based meshing approach results in greater efficiency, improved mesh consistency, and greater confidence in simulation accuracy. Enables fully automatic meshing of complex surface geometry Results in higher quality surface meshes with fewer elements User-defined rules completely govern the treatment of common geometric entities, such as holes, fillets, and beads Pre-specified mesh-quality targets guide the mesher to create meshes with the desired level of quality Provides consistent meshing results for all geometries subjected to the same meshing rules Users can easily select the meshing rules appropriate to the target discipline (NVH, durability, crash, etc.)
